Not at all surprising. Will be interesting where this franchise goes given that Obsidian has Grounded, Outer Worlds, and Avowed. Plus they have background in the Fallout series.
The gameplay was fine, I just found the story and overall theme of the game was very forgettable.
The interesting part is there is very little mention of COVID in the video and it focuses on how they had to change the direction of the game as QA and focus testing revealed that the game's goal, "Struggle to survive" was not being met initially.
Really the title of the article is misleading.
"Colt Classic".... Hmmmmmm.... Did they mean "Cult Classic"?
Nice reference to Colt.
@Tacoboto
Yes, you are correct, but for things to learn and learn consistently they have to be connected to a mothership, otherwise they all will learn differently.
Yes, AAA is a subjective thing to gamers.
Some believe it is the cost to develop, others believe it is the quality of the end product.
I subscribe to AAA being the quality of the end product. To me, whether a game was $100,000 to create or $200,000,000 to create, it is AAA if it was a very high quality of product. Meaning, the game time is the right length, the graphics are really good for the game, the sound is really good, the gameplay is addictive ...
@Jeece
Agreed for the most part.
But, I think the pandemic has played a big role in delays. The Ascent on XB was to be a launch game, and it is coming out in July now. Halo Infinite was a launch game and ended up going to Holiday 2021. God of War was announced for holiday 2021 and Sony has been quiet since. GT was supposed to be 2021 and it has been quiet since. Horizon was announced as 2021 and we haven't heard anything since. We have seen a ton of delay...
I would rather have delays then ship the way DriveClub did. That tainted the whole experience for me as a day one DriveClub owner. The online was a complete mess in DriveClub on day one. To Sony's credit they fixed the game over the next 6 months, but, they shipped garbage just to ship it in that case.
And secondly, we are in a pandemic still. There are very few games that have not been delayed.
And the ever-increasing reliance on networks continues.
I really wish as a game purchaser (in addition to subscribing to GamePass) that I could play my bought games on xCloud as well.
This issue is situational.
First, there is the quality of the TVs. I have seen HD TVs look better then 4K TVs in some cases because their processors are really good for rendering the images. Really look at how some TVs render the different shades of black.
Second, there is the human eye. If the TV is less then 43", and you are sitting 10 feet from it, there is no way you will see the difference. But, the bigger the TV, the more you will be able ...
A lot of takeovers work like this at first. There are two approaches.
First approach. Take them over and just give them money to do what they want. There are two results of this approach. 1) They are successful and create success in the bigger company and are allowed to do this forever. 2) They don't make enough money after a few game releases so the mothership comes in and educates them on the best ways to make money (Obviously the approach along with continued s...
Just a funny observation....
"Final Fantasy XVI is being developed by Creative Business Unit 3 at Square Enix"
You would think that if a business unit was creative it would not have a generic and completely uncreative name like, "Creative Business Unit 3"
I was going to wait for Returnal to drop in price, but I think I will go get it now. I can't watch a next gen exclusive game, new IP, and full game with pretty much the same metacritic score sell less then a side story sequel of a game that also runs on last gen consoles and shipped 6 months ago.
SHAME ON GAMERS INCLUDING MYSELF!
@CorndogBurglar
I agree.
I called this last generation the "Recycle" generation. Because there were so many remastered and recycled games. Along with the Backwards Compatibility features. I guess I am setting the bar too high for this generation, although I see a lot of potential.
@DJStotty
I don't know why console sales are so important anyhow.
The most important thing is games not consoles. And all three platforms have tons of games.
@Magog
IT is a console and handheld device. Just because it doesn't use the latest tech doesn't exclude it from the market. That is like saying we count Sony, and Samsung TV sales but we exclude Insignia because it is a older and cheaper tech. The only people that want to exclude Switch is the Sony fans that only care about Sony beating XB because that is the sole focus of their life. LOL. I don't even think most of them play games, because they spend way too much of...
@ratchetfan
I am not going to justify what 23 studios at MS are doing.
But.
Obsdian shipped Outer Worlds in 2019 and Grounded went into preview for 2020 So I would expect Avowed to be somewhere around 2024-ish. And Grounded should come out of preview this year.
inXile shipped Wasteland 3 in 2020 so I would expect their next game to be 2024-ish
Compulsion shipped We Happy Few in 2018 so I would expect their next game in 2023-ish...
I don't know why that is so important. That would be like segregating out XB Series X and S sales. It really doesn't matter. Or even breaking out PS5 vs PS5 Digital sales. They all play the same games available to the generation they are in.
The fact is if you are a Sony sales lover you are getting killed by Switch, and if you are an XB sales lover you are getting killed by both Sony and Switch. Switch is the #1 selling console this generation and it is likely ...
Just another fan trying to trumpet XB.
