It doesn't matter to PS4... PS4 has over 70 million consoles sold. A console vendor with 70 million sold consoles doe not worry about this kind of thing right now.
The thing they do have to worry about is how this affects the market and profitability on their side in the long term.
I was against buying this game last Friday and was going to wait. Then, after seeing all the stuff around the net decided, "Well this looks really good"... So, I went and made the mistake of buying it...
I will say that as an RPG it is top notch. No complaints there at all.
But, graphically it is garbage compared to other things I have seen this generation.
This is the kind of remake I like! Where they have taken a really good story and modernized the cut scenes, gameplay, and game engine.
If you look at all new game sales now-a-days game pass fits right in nicely.
We are seeing most new releases between 500k and 1million first week sales. Sure there are games like CoD and Battlefield that get mega sales, but in general new releases do not fly off the shelves anymore.
If you look at the formula 1,000,000 = about $60,000,000 day one sales.
5,000,000 game pass monthly subscriptions = $60,000,000 + you get a lot more gamers...
If the model of selling physical new and used games was working so well then why did so many developers and publishers go bankrupt? And why have developers and publishers forced games to have more purchases after you buy the game?
Pandemic, Visceral, Lucas Arts, Ensemble, Lionhead, Evolution, Runic, etc. Many devts focused on more single player experiences all closed because they weren't making enough money.
People like to conveniently believe secon...
This is a great thing for gamers.
Look at EA Access... $30 / Year and I get to play almost all EA's games. The only downfall is that I don't get them day one.
Now, we have game pass... I can play all MS games on day one.
So for $150 / year I get almost all EA games, all MS first party releases and a bunch of other games.
Any gamer that thinks this is bad is mind boggled.
And what keeps MS...
This is very difficult for Microsoft to take advantage of.
Essentially the business model needs them to encourage as many people to subscribe to make the most money possible.
So, if they back out of first party releases on day one through game pass that would plummet subscriptions and probably not translate to game sales due to the outrage.
The likely scenario is they raise the price over time, but again they have to make sure the v...
The death of retailers Gameware, Gamestop, EB Games, Game, etc would be good for the industry. None of these retailers have ever helped game developers or publishers. They refused to give any of their profits from used game sales to developers and publishers and now the axe is finally coming down on them.
No more would retailers benefit from developer and publisher sales. Developers and publishers benefit from their agreements directly in game pass. That is the way it s...
To me, this is the return of Rare! Allowed to work on creative and fun games!
Whether it compares to PUBG is irrelevant to me. It just looks like a fun game.
I will forgive them when they start consistently releasing new games again. Deadrising 3 and 4 were only ok.
But their "remasters" were mostly a bunch of ported money grabs.
Monster Hunter is only a timed exclusive. It is a return of Capcom to PC, PS4, and XBO.
Yup, after a bunch of very sad game ports sold as "remasters" (Resident Evils, Deadrisings, DMCs, etc), from the previous generation to make gamers buy their old games and play them on new consoles they finally deliver a new and good quality experience.
I really like what I have seen on this game and I have always liked new Capcom games, but I won't justify their previous behaviour by buying this game on Day One. Will wait for it to be a bargain then pick it ...
@Chevalier
I am not giving MS a free pass.
Just like I did not give Sony a free pass last generation when they released a $600 console with no games.
I bought PS3 when it was worth it, and I buy XB stuff when it is worth it.
I have a few 4K TVs in my home so I bought a console capable of 4K (both PS4 Pro and XOX) to play games on them. For me both 4K consoles are worth it. Someone without a 4K TV probably would not logically ...
Please factually justify why game pass sucks.
Your comments are completely void of and justification or facts.
@mcstorm
Yup, and that is the majority of people who buy consoles world-wide. There are about 3-6 million people out of the 100 million that buy consoles that eat, sleep and play games 24x7... The other 94-97 million play games when they can or have time as a enjoyable hobby. These services cater to the vast majority, not the minority that buys everything on day one and do all-nighters to complete the game in the first few days or weeks.
Ummmmmm.
Just so you are aware, the EULA in each game states explicitly that you do not own the game. You are licensing it perpetually. Have you ever read the EULA?
I don't know what you mean by online BS... Is that games that require you to be online at all times or they are pretty much useless? You know, the popular games that millions of gamers are buying like Gran Turismo Sport (requires internet to save progress), Destiny, Overwatch, The Divi...
There are people that have a limited budget and the Game Pass model gives them access to games they wouldn't normally be able to get.
Also, it gives the money to developers and publishers as well. Gamefly doesn't really do much for developers and publishers, used games at GameStop the same. But this gives money to the people who make games and therefore will hopefully lead to more games.
For all the fear that people have there is a lot of good i...
There has been many positive signs from XB since Phil took over... He can't just wave a magic wand and there are tons of exclusives and great things.
The rebuild of XB has taken time, but they are back to what made the 360 start off and go so well until Kinect.
Cancellation of games is not good, but if the games weren't going to be good that just saved me money.
You look at games on Sony's platform like Last Guardian, Dream...
I like this a lot.
But, if this just means games are free on subscriptions and we are microtransactioned or forced to grind forever that will really suck!
Be careful how you implement this Microsoft! Gamers are watching!
I used to buy a lot of games day one or pre-order...
I quit when I found games dropping 33% within a month after launch.
To me, pre-order and day one are dead for all except a few games that seem to get really positive feedback from gamers.
I think when you look at Valve. Essentially there is an innovation issue going forward. Sure Valve has innovated, but there is not necessarily that much more they can innovate. Like the article says, Valve can essentially disappear on vacation for 10 years and the only difference when they came back would be they have a ton of money more. So, getting bought out would allow them to move on from the boring world of developing on a mature steam platform to new and exciting stuff.
