There are many strategies at play in this offer.

1) they are hooking you on gamepass
2) they may be gambling that they think their exclusives will be better then the competition at the start of the generation
3) they are trying to freeze the market because everyone knows there won't be enough next gen consoles to start the next gen (almost all sell out for first few months)
4) the are trying to hook people to MS before the gen even starts

I could see something like, "Commit to 48 months of gamepass ultimate and you get scarlett for free".

2442d ago 0 agree2 disagreeView comment

Yes, but you also get gamepass ultimate for the 24 months. I think it is $14.99 a month. So really you are only pay $5 a month for the console. That is $120 over 24 months.

It is all subjective and the marketing people are working overtime, but there are different ways to slice it to justify the price.

Personally, I just buy the console, and then I am not on some marketing payment plan.

It is interesting to see people assuming that this game will be cross gen.

I don't disagree, but Sony has not defined their BC yet. And if the game ships with Checker boarding 4K, why wouldn't they release an ultimate edition around PS5 launch that had full 4K? Just because MS has visual improvements in many of its BC titles does not mean Sony will do the same. Sony has way more leverage to make gamers pay for improvements then MS does.

Again,...

Look at all my posts. I don't troll.

I have PS, XB, and Nintendo consoles. I just like great games.

BTW. if they do the double dip, I will bite and buy it again. I love the Last of Us.

First, this is not a troll, this is a way Sony has used to make additional money on shipped games. And really I don't see anything wrong with it if gamers decide they will buy the game twice with those improvements.

Second, With the Last of Us Part I, Sony shipped the game in 720p I think then release full HD in the next gen as a complete edition. I can see Last of Us Part II will probably be checkerboard 4K... Then, they will do a remaster to 4K. I still think that...

I don't necessarily disagree with the effects of BC on sales, but there will be a difference this generation. And that is that BC will be available on day one of the generation rather than two years in.

As far as I am concerned, XB360 BC on XBO saved XBO from dying totally. At that point the generation was already lost.

People bark at MS for a lack of diversity in their games.

They put out unique and diverse games then people bark that the diversity is boring.

People can't have it both ways. And simply "doing what the competition is doing for diversity" is not a recipe to be better, it is only a recipe to be equal with the competition.

There are probably large amount of people out there that would like to know what it is truey like to fl...

I really don't get it...

The same game as release 8 years ago getting just as good reviews today as it did back then.

I really loved LA Noire. But after 8 years I don't see how it can be just as good as it was then. There have been a ton of advancements in games since then. To me, if you simply remaster a game I would not give it more then a 7.5. Go and redo the game entirely taking full advantage of nextgen hardware (aka RE2 and FF VII) sure...

Why does the gaming press have to say stuff like "spectacular" in the title for screen shots?

Why can't they just say "Screen shots released for flight simulator" and let the people who read the article decide how good they are or are not? Seriously it is like they are marketing the game.

BTW the screen shots are impressive.

Sony will do the same with Last of Us II as they did with part I.

Release in the last year of the gen, then release a remastered full 4K complete version on PS5. Classic double dip.

No game should be rated on quantity.

I will take quality over quantity every time.

So, how does sales figures tell you anything about success?

The same person can buy more then one console. If a game is on GamePass you are not going to get high game sales probably, And there are a lot of people that buy a console and only 1 or 2 games ever.

Counting consoles is archaic. Especially in the next generation where streaming gaming will become a piece of the picture. I don't totally discount the number, but it says n...

OK. Let's break this down...

I already have Netflix, and other services that are integrated right into my TVs. So Chromecast Ultra is of little value. They are bundling it to increase their subscriptions and convince you to drop other services for their service.

I get a controller.... Ummmmm OK. It has a value. Not sure how much. I literally have a baskets of controllers. And I know stadia works with a wifi controller. So they are forcing me...

So, I have to pay $169 USD...

I get a controller and three months of Stadia...

Plus I have to buy the games?

Ummmmm No.

It may be good for some people. I am not one of those people.

Ya. Another plus on GamePass.

I would not give MS a lot of credit here.

Yes, Obsidian has been under them for about a year now, but the game idea and engine was probably 80% there when they sold to MS.

Neither will be the primary way I play. They will just be options when I am not able to play my console or PC.

I am not sure if there is much difference with going onto a map with X other players and playing a match or replaying a single player chapter to do more side missions, get collectibles, or try new things.

To me, a lot of game replay ability has always been a farce. First, there is always new games coming out that I want to experience. Second, playing a game over-and-over for more then a year is difficult with games constantly changing and getting better.

I have a problem when any game by anyone gets as much hype as Naughty Dog gets. It is as-if it is a "Game of the Year March. Meaning it is already game of the year before anyone has really played it. I think all games should be assessed on their merits by gamers when they are actually released, not before when know one has actually played it.

But, that said, last year when I saw the gameplay for The Last of Us II I was very happy with the game and thought it looked ...
