For some reason, open world survival games are not getting good ratings this gen by critics. Personally, I have found all the major open world survival games really fun. Deadrising 3/4, Dying Light, State of Decay 2, and Days Gone.

I think 5G will make things better, but I doubt it will solve all the issues. I want to game in a lot of places that don't have any cellular coverage.

@Stanjara
Microsoft is in a stronger position to start the next generation... They are going to continue with the same oS so that is one less thing to develop, they now have 15 first party studios, and GamePass has good momentum for customer loyalty.

Definitely, compared to last generation MS is in a much better position. Whether that translates to more gamers is a completely different question.

At the end end of the day I would definitely want...

I just don't see streaming as the future. I see streaming (at best) as an add-on for AAA mobile gaming. If streaming was the future then applications like Microsoft Office would've already been streaming. It is much easier to stream Office then it is to stream a game. Also, card games, and other simplton games would've went solely to streaming long ago.

People need an offline capability, Until the Internet is 500 Mbps, always available, and available on ever...

And this just adds to the proof that the business model for some games is well suited to subscription services like PS+, XBL Gold, and GamePass. In this case, PS+ free giving of this game. There are a lot of games, where people aren't able or willing to pay full price for them, but add them to a subscription service and they explode into something.

I think they are going to have a good year next year. Already have Grounded, Bleeding Edge, Wasteland 3, Halo Infinite, and Minecraft Dungeons. I know a few of those are multi-platform but that is only because they started before MS took the studios over and I think part of the Mojang takeover was that all Minecraft games would be multi-platform.

Halo Infinite is going to highlight the XBO launch and probably a Forza game.

I wish people would get over M...

I like Capcom's approach here. Rather then remastering RE they have gone down the path to slowly re-make the existing RE games. The story in all the games was great already. By re-making them they are modernizing the story or at least modernizing the gameplay and graphics.

Agreed. The games this year were more niche market games rather then broad appeal games, but that doesn't make the year horrible.

"Tanner Fox. Why I sucked so bad as a gaming journalist".

Don't take shots at Orillia, I drove thru there once I think... Well, I blinked and missed it probably.

I don't see Stadia as the future of gaming. I see PSNow and xCloud as the future of mobile AAA gaming. I think Stadia is going to struggle to get market share.

Sony and MS have it right that there is a large majority of people that want a local copy of their games on console for guaranteed performance. There is nothing worse then a network slowdown when you are playing any game. And streaming services just make network slowdowns much worse.

Probably already has outsold PS4 in Orillia, Ontario already....

I haven't played Control yet. Waiting for it to enter the cheap bin. But, I really like that Remedy was successful. They are a good developer to have in the industry. Control seems like it was based on the Quantum Break engine so I can understand why it was a cheaper game. Hopefully we will get more from Remedy soon! ALAN WAKE 2 please!

I think generations are disappearing. Going forward, I think the firmwares will be an evolution, every console will be backwards compatible, and new consoles will release every 2-3 years with new capabilities.

I think it is important Rare keeps doing new IP. If there is a need to revisit IPs then they should be farmed out to other studios. Really like what they did with Killer Instinct and that they are doing with Battletoads.

Get the Yooka-Lale team working on a new Banjo and farm out Kojima to do a Perfect Dark.

I loved the pre-PS3 GoW games. Thought GoW III was overrated... GoW Ascension was a wasted entry. But the reboot.... Definately deserver GOTY if not the decade.

There is nothing wrong with these numbers from any of the top 3.

Switch came out in 2017 so it is peaking as it is cycle
PS4 is still selling strong
And for a console that many have declared dead on arrival back in 2014, XBO sold well

I don't know how either Death Stranding or Gears 5 can be on the list with both receiving critical acclaim and gaming award nominations.

How about:

Anthem
Wolfenstein Youngblood
Shenmue III
Crackdown 3
Days Gone

I agree Sony made some really good games this generation but they have done that through their entire history. This console was more capable then previous ones so it has better games.

But, let's be honest. half of gamers wouldn't even consider Xbox One after their launch sales pitch, and Wii U was essentially a little more powerful Wii where Wii sales had pretty much died three years earlier. All Sony did was release a solid console and focused on game quality. ...
