The argument of the next generation is really a marketing and consumer clarity. PCs do not have generations yet, there are games that will run on some PCs but not others. It is a developer choice whether they target multiple platforms and a lowest common denominator hardware configuration.

If Sony was to say the PS5 was the PS4 2020, it would be pretty much be the same as calling it PS5. The only reason they are calling it PS5 is that they are essentially saying "...

I look at GamePass and EA Access as pure economics.

With EA Access the only EA game I've bought in the last 4 years is Star Wars Fallen Order. The rest I have accessed through GamePass. They haven't removed any games and the $30 per year has saved me hundreds as I used to buy the yearly sports games and all their AAA games. Now I My EA costs for the past four years have averaged about $42 with the fallen order purchase.

For MS I see it as they ...

I think that console vendors are doing their best to make as much BC as possible. Microsoft does have a lead in BC because it started a few years earlier and Microsoft is an Operating System vendor so there is a lot of knowledge there that can do BC.

I think Sony is catching up on their approach and Nintendo just doesn't care anymore.

Not even for older systems. I have Sonos speakers throughout my whole home setup and the only way they connect to TVs through SPDIF ports. Fortunately, all my Sonos speakers connect through the TV and not directly to the XB. But, if I didn't have SPDIF on my TVs then I probably wouldn't be joining the next gen right away.

I actually don't see a rush to buy either console. And I can't remember a generation where the debut exclusives of the generation were that much better then the previous generation. Many times the exclusives to start the generation rate poorly... Killzone Shadowfall, Ryse, Knack, etc weren't exactly the best games on the planet.

To me, this next gen is going to start a lot slower then previous gens. Sony is shipping Ghosts and TLOU2 this year on PS4. PS5 doe...

That is pretty much BS.

Sony demo'd a lot of TLOU2 a few years back at E3. Yes, it has been quiet. But, that was literally the best action game demo I have ever seen.

As for Ironman VR. VR games don't demo well. That's because you don't see the demo in VR, you see a stupid you tube video trying to be VR.

Starting this generation you probably won't even see a difference when you go to the game store on XB or PS that the game shipped on PS4 or XBO unless you look at the release date. I don't think anybody bought every game they wanted this generation. There is a high chance that people will continue buying past gen games on their new next gen consoles. Especially in the first year or two when the truely next gen games still have not shipped.

Scalebound was officially cancelled January 2017.

They announced the big set of studios in June 2018. They just didn't wake up one day and buy the studios. There is process.... They talk about the idea, then they negotiate the terms, then the buyer does due diligence, then they finance and buy. It is very conceivable that the acquisitions start up to two years before they actually happened. And it is not like Microsoft acquired them all on the...

As long as there is a method to turn the feature on/off I don't see why we wouldn't want it. It gives gamers more choice and allows gamers across devices to play together, which in turn allows gamers to buy the device they want vs the device they are pressured to buy because their friend group only plays on a specific device platform.

Choice is better for every gamer.

I will buy it if it does not have a BR mode.

So, what do you expect the head of XB to say if asked a question about how he feels after seeing the Sony PS5 specs?

Maybe, "I feel like crap that we will end up second or third again this generation. Maybe I should commit suicide or just resign?"

This one definitely cost a significant amount to cancel, but I would rather them cancel a bad game then ship it and try and market it as a good game.

The fact that they cancelled meant that there was still a lot of costs left to incur. Glad they took the money and decided to buy a bunch of really good first party developers.

I am not sure what is more important to growth in SP games. Gabe says AI, but to me the growth is more from Game Streaming/Subscription services like PS Now and XB GamePass.

With these services a lot of the games are SP and a lot of people would not have played them had they not been in the Subscription Service. Microsoft went out and purchased a bunch of Studios... Almost all were SP centric studios and are now going to be delivering their games through GamePass.

I have played games on PC Now for PC for over a year and a bit now. It is fine.

You have to remember that 90% of PC monitors are below 24". At 24" and lower 720p is not a problem.

Something selling doesn't have anything to do with its support received. PS sales are consistent because people believe they will get the support. And to date, you are correct, PS has provided great support. But that doesn't mean that will not change.

XSX... So far.... Shown a video for Halo Infinite cut scene and story base, a video for Hellblade II in engine and story basis, a video for Minecraft benefits of ray tracing, a Gears 5 video on ...

But come on.... I want pac-man in 8K!

Was there really that much capability difference between Sony and MS ever? There have been power differences, but by year 2-3 of the cycle the games have all tended to be pretty near the same in framerate and graphical capability.

PS has had its own dark periods as well. And judging from how Sony is communicating the PS5, I think they may be heading into another dark period. There has been nothing about games yet from Sony. I will be on PS5 and I know Sony will deliver games I just don't think that at this time they are really listening. Much like the start of the PS3 generation.... Overpriced console that really didn't have much going for it for about 2-3 years.

And...

I don't know how people can say this without knowing a single thing about what Sony as queued up for the next generation. I realize that Sony has created great exclusives. And they have great studios, but there has not been one first party next gen game put on a scheduled delivery date yet.
