I love how I'm being called an Xbox 360 fanboy. Wasn't I just called a Sony fanboy for the "Trophies Reflect More Skill than Achievements" article?
Read the entire article. Without a hint of fanboy-ism, I am saying that regardless of sales, or quality, Sony will never have a Halo killer.
Please read the entire article, and not the title, and initial paragraph. I'm talking about the Halo series, not Halo 3 specifically. Other games may be played more online, such as Call of Duty: World at War, but Halo 3 is still pretty poplular, and upcoming Halo-accociated games will always sell well.
I wish I would have kept that game for the trophies, but I sold it before I knew about the trophy patch. I think I'm level 4 with just under 70 trophies right now.
In no way whatsoever was I implying that Xbox 360 gamers don't have skill. I own an Xbox 360 myself. What I am saying is that it would be nice if you got a special reward such as a star beside the achievement, or a medal for the achievement like JOEdANGEL suggested.
With the trophy system, that "CrOwNd" achievment would probably be a gold trophy which would make you appear more skilled than the 100 points you were probably awarded.
I believe I am out of...
They're difficult to earn. I have a few golds, but no platinum, yet. When I do get one, it's going to feel great, though.
Hooray! EastCoastSB comprehends the article.
It's a shame that people don't read the articles they comment on. I didn't say one took more skill than the other, but that the way the trophy system is set up reflects skill more than the achievement system.
Example: You run in to a guy with a 50,000 gamerscore, and you probably think he's an excellent gamer. This may not be the case. He may just play a lot of games, and not get 1,000/1,000 on any of them. If you run in to a person with 10 platinum trophies on PSN, you know th...
My next article is going to be "Achievement sound Vs Trophy sound."
(I hope this is taken as a joke.)
Well, I did submit the entire article. :)
I usually play recent games, so with trophy support being mandatory for 2009, I can see gaining quite a few. It is a pity that the entire PS3 library doesn't have trophy support, because it may discourage people from buying older games.
While it's not likely that someone plays 300 games to gain 10 points each, it is possible. I believe the way the trophy system is set up is superior to the achievement system. I went more in depth in the article.
I didn't know if it was a rumour, or a fact, so I didn't want to misinform anyone. Thanks, though.
You're entitled to your opinion, and I agree that it was one of the many disappointments this year. Grand Theft Auto 4 was a solid game, but it forgot one of the most important aspects of the series; fun. There wasn't a lot of fun to be had outside of the online.
The picks were made by two individuals.
From what I see, this is a game meant for fans of JRPGs. The graphics look above average, the enemies look varied, and the enviornment looks huge. I'm looking forward to some reviews. I know I'll be buying this game.
I didn't even consider Grand Theft Auto 4 for my Game of the Year. I'm not one of those people that say "Oh, GTA 4 sucked," but it certainly wasn't the best game of the year.
It started of very promising, but started to lose it's immersion by the %30-%40 mark. With the excessive phone calls, and not a lot to do outside of the story missions, I just couldn't understand the perfect scores.
Obviously, it was a technical achievement. The city was huge, look...
By Sony losing exclusive third party support, I think it's made them a better company. Their first party games are absolutely amazing, and while I agree that the 360 had an excellent year as well, I think Sony had a better lineup in 2008, and I really think that 2009 will be another year for Sony, but it's possible that Microsoft has something to unveil that will blow our minds as well.
The Xbox 360 had a pretty good year, but I have to give the Playstation 3 the "console of the year" award. lol
I look forward to more innovative games like Mirrors Edge, and Little Big Planet, but there is nothing wrong with a game that's been done before, but with better production values. (Example: Gears of War 2, Resistance 2, Tales of Vesperia, Lost Odyssey, Metal Gear Solid 4, etc)
If you read the entire article, you would understand that I am not saying that Sony will never make an excellent first person shooter to rival the Halo series. I am saying that the Halo series has an established fan base, and regardless of what new games come out, history cannot be erased. Halo is almost as well known as Mario by this point.
Jak games are excellent platformers, but does that mean they are "Mario killers?" No. They co-exist.
