typed comment in twice when I thought the first one didnt reister.
I've been playing it since my copy arrived on tuesday. The driving is awesome and I love it and I haven't really noticed anything about the premium and non premium cars but I have noticed the pop up which is something I haven't seen in a game for ages. First noticed on the tokyo bay kart track and tokyo city track (in the same spot it was in since GT3) Shadows and reflections popping in and out. Blocky shadows cast by wing mirrors and spoilers totally ruin the looks of the cars. S...
Couldnt agree with you more on the tearing front. Thats the reason I got RE5 on PS3 as opposed to 360. One of the few multiplats I did get on PS3. The shadows too I find really off putting and a short while ago I loaded up GT HD Concept to see if it was as bad and it appeared not to be. I hope a patch can iron out the niggles because its a great looking game but as you say it does have issues that are very noticable when contrasted with parts of the engine that look good.
Its slight I guess but I definately see it when approaching cars to overtake. This isn't to say the game doesn't look good because its amazing to look at. I gawped when I drove around a wet track driving from the interior view. But there is definately screen tearing, blocky shadows throughout and the same pop up on the tokyo curcuit that was in gt3. But on top of all this I'd like to say to all the Fanboys GT5 is bloody impressive but there is no law to say Forza isnt good either....
I've been playing it quite a while and I'm about to start on my IA licence and you do notice tearing when following cars. If your doing a timed lap you probably wont notice it but during racing it is there. Overall its a reat looking game but the shadows really let it down. They're incredibly blocky and it jumps out at you when you see it. Ive played FORZA and GT5 and I pretty much agree with their analysis. GT5 has better image quality but Forza is a little bit smoother.
To Calahan and Kin Leonidas. Your right. I skipped GT4 in which case I stand corrected.
edit: I have a Hong Kong PS2 still. If I come across an Asian copy of GT4 going cheap I will check it out.
And I used componant cables on my ps2 into a plasma that was capable of 1080i and it certainly didn't pump out anything near HD. First time I saw HD on a console was with PGR3 and COD2 on 360 launch. Having a HD capable cable doesnt make it HD. My Wii is plugged in with a componant cable too.
No probs bud and it appears the online is now working anyway.
Servers are up now it appears. I had to accept an online agreement.
Yeah its fine to update and install. No problems at all. It appears only the online content hasn't gone live.
A second or two. Its no big deal. I'm playing it now w my laptop besides me. I think the only problem is install time. It was over an hour before I so the start screen but GT5 isn't the only offender of that this gen. Other than that its great so far.
edit: and the message only appears between the start screen menus. once your in your home garage its gone. The update is up. GT TV and other online content isn't. thats all there is to this 'freezing'
The update is out (here in the UK anyway) the problem is that it will say server is down for maintenance between menus. Its no biggy and I presume its because like many have said the game releases tomorrow. Other then that it plays fine. The only problem is the bloody update installing time, just like too many ames this gen.
Data install takes 30 mins and is 8 gig not the reported 10 gig. Almost there.
edit: actually is going to be a bit quicker. time just jumped to 16 mins.
It is doing just that. 3 mins left of downloading update which has taken almost 40 mins with a 16 meg connection and then Ive got to install. This is my biggest pet hate about this gen of gaming. Installations of which the PS3 is slowest at doing. Hopefully nextgen machines can be like consoles of old without this faffin about. But anyway at least I have GT5!:)
Is the patch out now? Amazon sent my copy 1st class yesterday so it will arrive by the early afternoon today. I hope to try online pretty quickly. I've got friends comin round to check it out this evening. The last time that happened was when Halo 3 was released.
The Halo games have good soundtracks. Marty O'Donnell deserve mucho credit there and Assassins Creed games by Jesper Kidd (I think), whose been making music since the Amiga days. The oriinal Ridge Racer is very nostalgic for me for the first time I turned on a Playstation. Mass Effect, Castlevania 4 on the Snes was good too. Those are the immediate ones that spring to mind.
Got an email from amazon saying it despatched first class this morning so I should have it on the 23rd. Pretty pleased with that.
Doesn't anyone know the history of Playstation? It goes back to the early nineties when Sony and Nintendo collaborated to make a cd/cartridge machine that would be the successor to SNES/SFC. Nintendo apparently did the dirty on Sony and announced a collaboration with Philips just when Sony where going full steam ahead with development. This hybrid nintendo sony machine would develop into Playstation. Apparently Sony top brass were wary of going into the games market alone and wanted Ninte...
I take it you haven't gamed long enough to experience having to put your Playstation on its side because the lense no longer works or having the drive fail on a PS2 or have your Vaio laptop commit Hari Kari. Sony are decent but they aren't exactly known for buildin to last. Nintendos have always been solid though.
I havent really noticed it. Its the pop up and other graphical issues that for me mark down the look of this game. Watching a replay and noticing the blocky shadows the wing mirrors and spoilers make and then seeing reflections and shadows pop in and out and even pop up in the distance is of greater concern to me then a Mazda MX5 not being as detailed as a Zonda.
