Except in FFXIII paradigms is the only thing resembling depth and it takes forever to get going. It's like 15 hours or something before things gets just a tiny bit interesting. 20 hours before it starts for real. Rest is just one extremely long tutorial. Most FF games takes a while to get going, but it has never been that bad. Perhaps in FFx, but that still felt better paced.

While the paradigm system was cool, I do think it takes long before it amounts to more than spamming auto battle. And while I remember a great deal of good fights, there's also an awful lot of auto-battle spam fights in between which is easy to forget because of the more memorable moments.

Same might be said about older FF games, but I still think they had a little morr flavour in basic fights. XIII has the issue that you can choose between a couple...

I wouldn't go that far, battle system does have it's moments. But maybe mainly in later boss fights. Start of game is pretty braindead though.

They might share similarities, but FFXIII suffered from a nonsensical story and 15 hours of super slow introduction. The game gets better, but it takes a loooong time to get going. I find FFxVI a lot more engaging in the opening hours.

I feel like ps1 and 2 were strong, but we are at a point where you can play the old stuff and have a blast, but there's also new stuff like Octopath Traveller 2 and stuff thrown on top of everything. Feels like the best time to game because of availability, still could be even better, you still need emulators more than I would want, but there's just so much to play with the old and the new things combined.

There's also some major issues in AAA, but the worst off...

Just the perspective of a person who liked games with depth and who hates boring ass tutorials and turret sequences. Almost quit gaming back then. Luckily it got better.

Ps1-2 era and 90s pc gaming was amazing. Only 2007-2009 sucked major ass. With a handful of exceptions.

Except most games from that time period sucked. I don't want to go back, games are better now than ever. There's actually variety, that wasn't really the order if the day on ps3. If you liked hyper lineat cover shooters and fps's with brown colors and bald mainguys, then sure. But I like horror games, Immersive sims, turn based jrpgs, boomer shooters and stuff like that. All the cool stuff that has been making a comeback in recent years. Good thing now is that indies have impr...

Mgs3 is only good in Subsitence due to the vastly improved third person camera. Also would mean that we wouldn't get the retro games, as these were bundled with Subsistence.

No one is expecting a plethora of AAA vr games and those who are, are missing the point.

Well obviously. There's a reason Octopath Traveller released on xbox and not ps.

"Forced diversity' lol... Why is it forced? do you think the writers at Obsidian were pressured? You have creative freedom unless you want to write something inclusive, then obviously you were forced. So stupid.

The article doesn't state that it's a requirement. It just notes that Pentiment manages to find representation in medieval history and that it brings something interesting to the table while doing it. Point being, maybe developers could explore more facettes of the medieval setting to give us a broader perspective. It's meant for inspiration not force.

@JackNimble
But you don't have to go AAA, development tools are so powerful these days that you can do a lot with limited budgets. I think we'll see some impressive stuff in time with or without AAA.

Another thing, new specs makes vr ports a lot more feasible and less cumbersome than on psvr.

In the beginning it can leach of Quest 2. I assume a lot of developers want their vr games out on as many headsets as possible.

I don't entirely disagree, but try being a pc gamer without installing Windows. You are not going to have a good time.

While ActiBlizz would take a lot of games away from a lot of players, it coumd also lead talented Activision studios to become more than Cod factories.

Perhapa Raven could return with an original title? Not all bad, but not too fond of this idea of having every big publisher gobbled up by megacorporations.

But atleast it might make room for new third paety publishers to emerge. We really need some new big ones.

You're in luck, they built a difficulty setting into Elden Ring.

You really think people will remember the video game awards in the future? That's cute.

Just as a test, who won last three years? Don't google.

They aways do a lot of different experiments in new IP and they usually inocrporate new concepts into existing franchises and try out new things with various spinoffs using popular characters.

If you check a complete list of Nintendo games from the last 15 years, they've been doing a lot of stuff.
