Even minor stuff can be heavy if it's poorly optimized.
Win 10 barely works on a hdd. Used it like that for a long time and it was a miserable experience. Felt like getting a new pc when I finally installed an ssd.
The shift to ssd is the best part of modern consoles. Load times noticeably shorter now. Takes 5 seconds to boot FFXVI from dashboard. ps4 couldn't do this, anyone who has played both current gen and previous gen versions of Elden Ring knows how big a deal this is.
@fr0sty
Ofcourse it's not universal, but it applies to the company making Quantum Error. It's a small team and maybe they don't have people who have figured out how to do this yet.
People also tend to forget that GT7, Forbidden West and Ragnarok would most likely have been the exact same releases without the ps4 ports. They might even have been planned as ps5 only until the shortage happened.
Haven't read up on it, but does Ratchet and Clank manage to switch between worlds as fast on a hdd or do they stretch the transition screen? Does seem like something that needs an ssd, because they do load between huge scenes in a short amount of time. Unless they can somehow preload all of it.
It could probably be done, but it takes time and know-how to implement it.
I think the problem is that people expect a major jump in fidelity and that will never happen. Fidelity is ever increasing but the days of the big generational leap between ps1 and ps2 or ps2 and ps3 is long gone. Personally my biggest interest in this generation has been the reduced loadtimes. Something that carries over to older games as well. I'm glad I didn't have to play Elden Ring on a ps4, it loads forever when you die.
Starfield will probably be good. It's another big release in a line of wild releases in 2023, I have high hopes. First Tears of the Kingdom, then FFXVI, Pikmin 4 and AC:Rubicon and directly into Starfield, Forza, Mario Wonder and Spiderman.
@Pete
The thing about the we believe in generations quote is that he meant that he believes a new console will add new experiences. He was talking about how ps5 games would have haptics, 3D sound, fast loadtimes and better visuals. All of the games Sony relessed since has had these things. There are two versions of Ragnarok and there's obvious differences between the two. If people read his quote in context they would get this.
Not to defent the guy, just a bit...
Soon MS will have released a lot of games. With AbK they will have developed games like Diablo 4, the drought is retroacticely over.
ABK was hard because they are the biggest publisher in the industry, if not the biggest company overall. Ubisoft is a lot smaller, so probably not as tough.
They know that they are next in line, so why wouldn't they congratulate them?
Don't they own all the companies making big budget shooters? Aside from Epic and Bungie.
You have to root for them as they are the underdog. They only own all of pc gaming and doesn't even get to own consoles as well. It's unfair that a small company like MS can't even dominate the entire gaming space. But hopefully they'll get there when they own all of it.
But then again, Activision only really did Cod and Blizzard stuff at the moment. New entries in noteworthy non COD stuff might be 3-5 years out into the future, so a 5 year deal might not make a lot of sense. It would be a gamble, unless they saw a stellar roadmap, but I'd assume they didn't.
But nice that Ms continues to make their stuff available to more people by excluding the biggest platforms in the console space. They really should start being more honest.
Meanwhile I only use ps plus (for a limited time, never really subscribe for more than a month or two to these things) because that's where Yakuza and Dragon Quest is at the moment. So I guess that's the best value in gaming.
I think they'll add most of it. Don't really think they are making that much on Prototype and the like these days.
They could have lied and pretended to love it, but what would be the point then?
It's ok if a reviewer doesn't enjoy a game as much as another reviewer. Shouldn't be rocket science to understand this basic principle.
@RPGer, yeah: 3,4,5,6,7 and judgment are still available for now.
Horizon 5 is nice to look at. Halo Infinite also has its moments and Flight Simulator is impressive.
But Myst and Scorn (crap game) are some of the more visually impressive game I've played on Xbox. Really wish Myst would make it to Ps5, looks absolutely gorgeous.
