Marathon is multiplatform and Activision isn't just COD, it's like 12 studios under the biggest publisher in the entire industry.
It has very good combat a pretty good story and fairly mediocre open world design. Would have been a much better game in a linear setting.
I think it's one of the best games I've ever played. The story and atmosphere is just perfection. Love the journey into the black mountain. And all the little details, was sold by the mirror moment in the beginning.
They doubled down on kinect to get some of that Nintendo Wii money, but with limited succes. Sony kinda did the same with move, but they were better at doing two things at once. So the failure of move didn't really impact the standard games.
Problem with Rrod is that it was something like one third of all consoles. There's also rumours that ms knew of the issues, but powered through becauae they wanted to release one year before ps3.
Some ps3 highlights for me were Demons Souls, Armored Core 4-5, Dark Souls 1-2, MGS4 (though still the worst mgs), Resistance 1 (slightly better than 2, but not much), Persona 4 Arena, Monkey Island 1-2 rerelease, Catherine, Dragons Dogma, Skyrim, Fallout 3 (ish) GT 5-6, and now Im drawing blanks.
Ds was a goldmine, but didn't notice until long after. Wii was also nice, reminded me that I really liked platformers, Galaxy 2 might be my favourite game of the era alongside...
@OhmyGhandi
There is some good stuff, but living through those years it took forever. And most genres that I enjoy were borderline dead because they were deemed "too old". I remember you had to research games beforehand just because there was a risk that they had made some stupid respawn system like in Prince of Persia where you were borderline immortal, because challenge was archaic.
And half the games you list are games that I would deem "just okay...
They had a lot better starting point. A cheap console and Gamepass, and yet it's slim pickens. Might get a big boost if the upcoming games stick to landing.
This is a very slow process, they promised that all games over a certain price point would get a trial. We are nowhere near that point at the moment.
I'm thinking that Silent Hill 1-4 might be realistic at some point. The way things are going they might even remember 0 and Shattered Memories.
But so far they've focused most on Castlevania.
I agree, they've done a good job with Castlevania, still would be nice with 2-3 more collections. Ds games, Chronicles and ps2/n64 games would be nice.
Soon we'll get Suikoden 1-2 and all off Metal Gear. They could do more, but so far they've done more than most. Which is surprising.
But as some mentioned, Capcom does it better. Ms, Square and Nintendo also deserves a mention, they've been good at making a wide variety of stuff available. ...
All the info was available, but I think it was a mistake to have so abstract a backstory and so many similar sounding words for different things. FFX is probably very similar, but I think they did a way better job of setting up the world.
Except in FFXIII paradigms is the only thing resembling depth and it takes forever to get going. It's like 15 hours or something before things gets just a tiny bit interesting. 20 hours before it starts for real. Rest is just one extremely long tutorial. Most FF games takes a while to get going, but it has never been that bad. Perhaps in FFx, but that still felt better paced.
@goldwyncq
While the paradigm system was cool, I do think it takes long before it amounts to more than spamming auto battle. And while I remember a great deal of good fights, there's also an awful lot of auto-battle spam fights in between which is easy to forget because of the more memorable moments.
Same might be said about older FF games, but I still think they had a little morr flavour in basic fights. XIII has the issue that you can choose between a couple...
I wouldn't go that far, battle system does have it's moments. But maybe mainly in later boss fights. Start of game is pretty braindead though.
They might share similarities, but FFXIII suffered from a nonsensical story and 15 hours of super slow introduction. The game gets better, but it takes a loooong time to get going. I find FFxVI a lot more engaging in the opening hours.
I feel like ps1 and 2 were strong, but we are at a point where you can play the old stuff and have a blast, but there's also new stuff like Octopath Traveller 2 and stuff thrown on top of everything. Feels like the best time to game because of availability, still could be even better, you still need emulators more than I would want, but there's just so much to play with the old and the new things combined.
There's also some major issues in AAA, but the worst off...
Just the perspective of a person who liked games with depth and who hates boring ass tutorials and turret sequences. Almost quit gaming back then. Luckily it got better.
Ps1-2 era and 90s pc gaming was amazing. Only 2007-2009 sucked major ass. With a handful of exceptions.
Except most games from that time period sucked. I don't want to go back, games are better now than ever. There's actually variety, that wasn't really the order if the day on ps3. If you liked hyper lineat cover shooters and fps's with brown colors and bald mainguys, then sure. But I like horror games, Immersive sims, turn based jrpgs, boomer shooters and stuff like that. All the cool stuff that has been making a comeback in recent years. Good thing now is that indies have impr...
It's only the three first, rest stays for now.
