Quake-182: Take out your Nail Gun and Jacket?
I think the author hit the nail on the head with this one. You can slap as much "content" on a dull, poorly-designed, or just cliche game, and that will make the game a little more palatable, but with Overwatch, they just came out of the gate guns blazing when it comes to the technical side of things, with surprisingly balanced characters (they really need to fix Play of the Game to make this shine), interesting and very deliberately-crafted maps, so many little changes to how a typ...
Christmas Dead Rising on my PC? Sounds like a great idea to me! Sign me up.
Looks like the OP listened! This saved me a click.
That might be a jab at Disney Infinity, which is shuttering soon (without a successful lawsuit arguing that it wasn't infinite). I wonder if they're trying to take that part of the market back with this move. Diablo would be a good way to go.
The author's reasons are pretty good, but I'd say the conference announcing the original PlayStation and its price was the most impressive. In one fell swoop (and apparently one that was only planned minutes before the conference), they took the helm for the 32-bit era. The cheering at "$299" really set the stage for future conferences as sales events and not just a thing for writers.
Think of how many times we've seen companies getting forced or artif...
LOL! So, you own Rogue Galaxy. That's nice - wish we could see the sale price in that screenshot, though!
It's looking good! I really enjoyed the first Waves and wasn't so happy when the guy tried to go tactical with it in that Arena Tactics game, but Waves 2 looks great!
I think he's right about the marketing being an issue. I had no idea what that game was when I saw the advertisements, and when I saw them, I assumed I was looking at an iteration on Smite and just disengaged completely. If I knew more about what it played like back then, I'd have been hyped.
Plus, Gearbox has this sense of humor that seems like it belongs in the early 2000s, and it hasn't really aged well. Every line of dialogue in Battleborn sounds like it cou...
Far be it from me to *not* stare at butts, but can we just take a moment to appreciate the work on those guns?
...No, no, not *those* guns. The *actual* guns.
...Yes, the ones that shoot! They've definitely had work done!
...fine, I'll see myself out.
Yeah, if Overwatch played like Clash Royale, pay-to-win and not fun without money after a short period of time, I'd totally be on board with what you're saying, but no.
It's far more like a hybrid of DOTA's randomized chests and TF2's hats - they're random, but also completely unnecessary to play and enjoy the full game, completely unnecessary for competition, and all about enhancing a long-term experience via customization. With the characters they&...
I'm very sad that Project M in VR isn't that awesome homebrewed mod of Smash Brawl, but this seems interesting.
Man, when I'm Lucio and I'm stopped by that ice mist, it's a bad time. Freezing in a game all about mobility is painful!
Price drops happen when the market isn't going to take your game at the price you have it at. That's what reviews and Quick Looks are for - the writing was on the wall once they came out. Gearbox didn't rip off early adopters - they lost a battle that they didn't anticipate happening. Plus, while it's a fun enough game and has some complex options, it's not a deep enough team-based MOBA to survive as a multiplayer-only game at $60. A great single-player campaign would ...
This is why I like Blizzard's method of not announcing a release date until it's absolutely time to do so. They're able to build hype slowly over time with the right audiences, and none of this delay stuff even dents their reputation. They manage to do that under Activision's umbrella, and they're Activision - why couldn't these other studios do the same with their funders?
That was exactly what my question was going to be - thanks for posting those last scores! I was interested in the original DQH, but not enough to really get out there and buy it.
I'd say that depends on what you're looking for. A hybrid system aiming to beat the PS4 on graphics would be ridiculously bad, because just as you said, the battery life would be awful. Basically the Atari Lynx of 2016.
However, Nintendo has done really well with underpowered systems in the past, making great-looking games through optimization and art design alone. It's not out of the realm of possibility that they'd make something with just a bit more power...
Blizzard has zero responsibility for convincing other large corporate game studios and publishers to do anything. They wanted to make that game, and they made that game. Destructoid doesn't have that responsibility either. The reviewer liked the game so much that he thinks it's best-in-class, and he published the review.
Sigh. I really wanted it to be a hybrid system.
I'm shocked that the new cover's actually good. With a headline like that, you'd think it was one dude in some smoke with a gun or something. The Espers (are they Espers?) in the sky are an excellent touch - gives you a little hint of the plot while looking cool.
