I doubt very seriously that the 1.9GB download contains 51 or even 25BG compresses. Chances are the BD is for those who want physical media. I doubt that it's full unless there's lots of extras.

Depends on exactly where there margins are right now. They could still be making a minor profit on hardware, or breaking even. Either would be fine with them. Hardware is not where the money is at. The money is in software. As long as they're making any profit or breaking even on hardware, they're happy.

MS simply can't maintain the fight in this generation. They will be a success due to games, but they won't dominate th competition. Funny thing is, if Downloads were to oust Bluray (which it will not), this generation's XBox 360 is too loud to truy enjoy HD movies with HD Audio. On Xbox 360, no movie has a quiet passage. You hear the roaring 360 fan during quiet passages.

@longduckdong: next-gen will have 802.11n, built-in tuners (ala PlayTV)

What's more important than determining how we'll get our HD?

The music industry's CD sales are not being destroyed by legal downloads with DRM. They were destroyed by illegal, DRM free downloads. Trust me, the overwhelming majority of people with every song they ever wanted and 5000 track personal libraries on the iPod for mp3 players did not pay from the songs.

This will not happend with Bluray Movies. Case in point, you can get Bluray rips now. They're just too big to proliferate and there's limited places you can play them back. It's ...

At any given time, 20% of Xbox 360 owners are waiting for their RRoD BrickBox to be repaired.

I was one of them 4 times. Microsoft could win back my loyalty but they'd have to release an new SKU with silent fan, integrated Bluray with DoblyTrueHD and DolbyMA.

They will not.

Repeat, Downloads contain DRM. You can't take the movie to a friend's house. No extra's. Can't loan it out. Can't sell your game machine without losing all your download investment. Can't play the movie in a room without a game machine.

Thene there's the fact that without BD, the game console suffers. It's not ready for next-gen games. As an XBox and P3 owner I can tell you, swapping DVDs is a drag ad not something I'm interested in.

They said the same thing abo...

If you do nothing else rent Heavenly Sword and Burnout Paradise. I too play more Bluray than play games. There just aren't that many that I like on the PS3. But, same goes for Xbox till GOW 2 or Dead Rising 2. 90% of my game playing these days are XBLA and even that will be short-lived. PSN games suck, I have none. But Capcom is about to fix that, and given the same game on both platforms, I'm choosing PS3 for the superior Audio and potential for better graphics (I do think when programmer le...

That's really too bad. But it doesn't matter. Xbox is too loud even for downloadable movies anyway. Once PS3 can playback Windows Media Center Recordings, I'm ditching my Xbox 360. It's of no real value for HD Audio/Video anyway.

Microsoft doesn't want to pay Sony their Bluray Royalty, They won't or can't product a silent XBox 360, and because they didn't integrate HDDVD into the Xbox, it's now dead.

So why am I still supporting Xbox, I'm really not. I have a 360...

This game was highly anticipated by me and turned out to be crap on PS3. That's when I decided to take the plunge and buy a PS3 and wait for Wipeout HD. Often imitated, never duplicated.

Maybe this news will encourage Sony to give a release date, though I don't want them to rush it. Wipeout HD is why I have a PS3, I want it as perfect as can be.

MS had better be dropping prices to make room for a new Xbox 360 Ultimate with Bluray and a new HDMI chip. They'll hurt Sony with the price cut, until the following Bluray movies are released this month:

I am Legend
No Country for Old Men
Predator

And soon after the theatrical release ... Dark Knight.

All Sony has to do to counter is give another Bluray bundle with a blockbuster movie title.

While I agree with you and the article, you should keep this kind of vitriol out of the gamer zone.

I've had 3 different serials in 4 returns.

I've gone through 4. Only had 1 PS3 and it's quieter than any of my 5 Xbox 360s.

When HD DLC does become viable, which platform is most likely to use an open format and allow portability? With Xbox, the content must remain on the XBOX HD and is not portable. If you put your HD in another XBOX, DRM will prevent the playback of any movie content.

Sony is more likely to allow DLC to reside on external drives. Additionally, with DIVX-HD third party outlets may beat PSN and XBL in this area.

As a PS3 and Xbox owner, I find it Hillarious that users blow off VG chartz whenver Xbox outsells the PS3. Kinda curious...

I predict a first. A major console price cut does not significantly move the market.

Bluray is too strong (I am Legend, No Country for Old Me, Predator coming). Red Ring of Death is to prevalent. PS3 is GTAs native platform.

I think when this price cut doesn't do much, we'll start hearing talk of Xbox 360 Ultimate again. Maybe this time with Bluray.

I've been pleased since adding a PS3 to my Home Theatre above my 360. My top 5's are:

1. Silent Operation (can't hear quiet passages on my 360 due to fan noise)

2. HD Audio, superior dynamic range, clarity, plus Bluray and Dolby TrueHD.

3. Easy as pie HD upgrade. I now have a 120G PS3.

4. Heavenly Sword

5. Soon, Wipeout HD.

If it comes out for both platforms at the same time, I think this time I'm goign with the PS3. I love achievements and the online community of the Xbox 360, but with a survival horror game, sound will be very important. Not only does the PS3 have superior HD audio, but right now I can't here quiet passages on movies I download on the 360. The fan noise is just too loud.

I really hope the PS3 version ships the same day as the 360 version.

We have Dolby-TrueHD, hopefully this update will bring Dolby-MA. Then the domination will be complete.

If people have to buy standalones to get Dolby-MA then there's no real advantage over Xbox.
