You know why you have to click an object in IE to operate it? Because someone owns a broad patent to included plugins in a web page. Not ActiveX ming you, just inline plugins. Microsoft will go ahead and pay them use rights and the requirement to click the control first will be removed. Patents can be "broad" in scope. Patent law is not simple and broad patents and the litigation surrounding them is why most simply opt for a deal. Reference:
The business aspect of gaming is unfortunate. So many great games goign to waste being restricted to a single platform.

The patent isn't for the method or technology to implement the feature. It is a broad patent on the feature. Doen't matter how you do it.

No matter, I smell a trade coming. Free use of in-game custom soundtrack patent in exchange for dropping Bluray licensing fees for Xbox 360. Works for me ...

Some people are actually looking for DiRT without the dirt. Sims just aren't my thing. The only question for me is which platform am I going to buy it on. Leaning toward PS3...

Manslaughter, manslaughter? I understand heat of the moment. It usually involves a romantic involvement. Give me your game, no, bang? Is armed robbery and murder.

Heat of the moment is taking the game from the kid and kicking his arse. Shooting him in the head with a .38 is just murder. Not premeditate murder, just murder.

I have a feeling coming over to a kids house with a .38 is planning something unsavory. Maybe he planned on shooting the Xbox if it RRoD'd. Someho...

Think of it like GT5 Prologue, an appetizer to RE5. Most Xbox gamers have probably never played the series. I only played the original on PC and am looking forward to this. Though, I'll probably be getting it for my PS3, not Xbox. I also wouldn't mind the original on PSN or XBLA.

It's not the best Bluray player, after all, it has no Dolby-MA and no bitstream output. But, those are audio/videophile feature. I mean, mainstream users don't buy high-end players with all of the high-end features. I want Dolby-MA bitstream or internal decoding. But the fact is, few if any movies that I have even have Dolby-MA. They are Dobly-TrueHD which the PS3 is certified for.

Dolby-MA is possible in firmware and by the time it comes, I may have some movies that use it. Is P...

Kids do crazy things. Of course there's probably one or two adults in there that want to be kids again. Achievements are great and Gamerscore should be a quick numerical representation of you quantitative achievements. That's all it is for everyone I game with. But once you put a score on it, there will be competition, and where there's competition, there will be cheaters. Just ask Bonds and Clemens ;>

But the real reasons I bought a PS3 were:

4 RRoD's
Bluray
HD Audio (HDM 1.3, Uncompressed Audio, LPCM)
Wipeout HD is coming!
Silent Operation (Can't hear quiet passages on Xbox downloaded movies, it's toooo loud)
Cheap Upgradeable Hard Disk (I was disgusted after having to pay $179 for 120G on Xbox)

I haven't gotten rid of the XBox because of Media Center and XBLA. But, with Capcom releasing 1942 and Commando for PSN and XBLA, and Lode R...

@ 1080p GT5's environment definitely shines and is superior. However, the cackpit appears to be clearly better looking in Grid. I'm not a fan of cackpit view because they tend to be kind of cheesy but Grid's looks very nice. I would like to Demo it.

As for the game, I'm not a big simulation fan. Those who like simulations will prefer GT5 unless they want some type of damage, right now. Can't say arcade racing fans will like Grid, we don't know enough about it yet.

Given the size of the files required to maintain HD quality and sound, I don't think it's fair to compare BD to MP3, CD, or even DVD. It's going to be awfully hard to move the files around easily. Now we're talking a few gigabytes, instead of DVD quality at 700k-900k.

Also, the find formats that work best at these resolutions with full fidelity sound are not commonly use. I'm sure Sony's not happy, what happened to Music and DVDs won't happen to HD Audio/Video for some time. ...

Nothing wrong with digital downloads. Tehy just won't replace discs. They are a compliment. When renting, donloads are actually preferred for me. To own, it's all about the disc.

I think the 720p are 720p. The file sizes are small because until just recently, the majority had plain old stereo sound. Over the past few weeks, responding to criticism, MS is now publishing their 720p content with Dolby Digital 5.0. That's bumping the file sizes up to the 3Gig range. That's still not HD Audio that you can own with a Bluray Disc. If you haven't heard uncompressed Bluray Audio, it changes the whole experience.

Microsoft simply can't win this one. Sure, there w...

Not that it's guaranteed with my current system I'll notice a significant improvement over DolbyTrueHD, but I want it.

Twelve, your comments about Pixeljunk are so far fetched, I have to go ahead and buy the thing and give it another try. I mean, wow.

I might give pain another try too. I like the look, but oh the redundancy.

I still don't think they'll grow on me, but he audacity and sheer madness of your comment has moved me give them another shot. I'm just going to buy them.

Chessmaster is a rehash :>, Wipeout HD is a rehash, GTA IV is a rehash. Good games never die, they just need a new coat of paint. Prince of Persia is phoenomenal next-gen rehash of 2d platformer. You shoudl check it out.

They just don't make arcade games like they use to. So, don't reinvent the whell, just repaint it.

BTW, Pixeljunk Monsters doesn't appeal to me at all. Don't like it's looks or play. That's why when it comes to arcade ga...

I'm impressed. That's coming from an Xbox die-hard who last year said I would never buy a PS3.

MS' price cut is good, but in the long run, PS3's BD will hurt MS big time. I've got No Country for Old Men and I am Legend in the mail from Amazon now, and have pre-ordered the classic Predator; can't wait for Beowulf on BD.

I hope the "more" is decoding Dobly-MA/HD. That's really all that's left, oh, and a nasty move would be adding a codec to play-back Wind...

I actually thought the price drop wouldn't work. RRoD is still pretty bad. But, apparently that extra $50-100 is excluding a lot of potential gamers. To be honest, if you're not hardcore, and Xbox Arcade is the way to go. I think it's even better than Wii, XBLA has great games and online.

Games and PSN don't mix. I also agree the PS3 is the best console. However, XBLA has no peer, it's not even close. I have not purchased a single PSN game and it's not intuitive. With no currency transparency (i.e. Microsoft Points) I might as well be on a PC on a web site ordering something.

Content Let's see:

Geometry Wars
Prince of Persia (Sweet, but short like Heavenly sword)
Uno
Texas Hold 'em
N+

But... I would like to see a racing game using the Burnout Paradise engine from PS3. PS3, not Xbox. PS3's burnout is the best racing engine I've ever played. Would love a Grand Prix racing game with this engine, tweaked for a tad bit more realistic physics but not much, I prefer an arcadish racer.
