Slim PS3 is possible if they stick with the laptop drive. If you look closely at the ZEGO board you can see how they repositioned the cooling apparatus.

What's more the chips are tiny, which means they put out far less heat than previous PS3 components.

The reason the server rooms have air conditioners is because those rooms can contain many megawatts of processing power stacked closely together. The worst a PS3 will have to contend with is the heat output from...

because sometimes you may be staring at a blank wall and there'll be nothing going on and other times all hell will be breaking loose and the physics, effects, poly-count, etc will be off the charts.

They will also never be 100% for all six. Why? Because there needs to be margin for error. As their code improves, they will probably work their way up to about 85%, maybe a bit more with instances close to 100% but nothing sustained.

The key to that is to treat...

The reason the current PS3 has a large internal volume is because of the enormous yet quiet heatsink and cooling fan. The Zego, which is little more than a PS3 without the Blu-Ray drive shows that due to the improved manufacturing process, shrinking the chips and the resulting power requirements, the massive cooling apparatus is no longer needed.

So yes, a slim PS3 is definitely technically possible now. Having said that, I am not sure they'll do it. Instead, they might use ...

Uncharted has the best textures of any full 3D action game, not any console game. The best textures of any console game are in LBP.

Uncharted not only has unmatched texture quality for a game of that type, but, as you said, has a smart LOD where they mimic an out of focus effect (blur) when you're too close. Uncharted also remains tops in character detail with 2-3 times the polygon counts of other games on either console. The character detail, the expressions, and animation ...

People often mistake higher sales numbers for increased consumer preference. Clearly in terms of consumer preference the 360 is dead last. How do we know? Ask yourself these questions:

-If the 360 was $400, the same price as the PS3, which would sell better?
-If the 360 was $250, the same price as the Wii, which would sell better.

Thanks to historical sales data, we know the answers to these questions.

360 vs Wii: At $250, the Wii is stil...

Uncharted was the best looking console game. The textures, lighting, extremely high polygon counts (2-3 times those of gears), animation, etc... were all best in class, an amazing achievement. Usually games are tops in one or two areas but this game was tops in a number of technical categories.

Uncharted 2 has to go up against MGS4 and KZ2. Tough but if anyone can do it it's Naughty Dog.

Gears 2 is not the most technically impressive game on console. In fa...

Dramatic title aside, the one company that can buy itself out of any situation is Microsoft. They have oodles of cash!

Microsoft already has a strategy for taking on Google and they are doing it from a position of strength. Media hype aside, google has a long way to go to supplant Microsoft as the dominant player.

unless they've figured out a way around the laws of physics as we know them.

It all comes down to bit-rate and compression. Online video has vastly lower bit rate and far more compression. It will be lucky to look as good as a regular DVD. Under ideal conditions it might approach an upscaled DVD. But true Blu-Ray quality 1080P with uncompressed 7.1 audio? Here's a hearty lol to that one.

Web-based VOD has a limited future. The reality is that consumers go to cable providers first for their tv watching needs. Nearly all consumers are not tech savvy and simply want something that works the way it's always worked, ie., where they go to a guide on their cable box and click on that movie or show.

Since cable operators will offer the same functionality as netflix and blockbuster through an interface that consumers are familiar with and comfortable with there is n...

Let's not compare apples with oranges here. That's like expecting a loaded Lexus to outsell a stripped down Toyota. Of course the cheaper car will sell more!

A better competitive comparison is two economy models, the 360 Arcade and the Wii.

Here you see that the Wii, despite the slightly higher price, is vastly more popular. It just goes to show that if the consumer demand does not exist, even a cheap price can't save an unwanted product.

well you get the drift.

I'll help them out by starting their next article:

"$199 not the Magic GAME CONSOLE price afterall

The general consensus, among experts, analysts and other blowhards has long been that when GAME CONSOLES legitimately hit $199, the device would finally go mainstream. Well, $200 Xbox360s are all over the place yet ..."

As a solo campaign, Resistance 2 just doesn't have a compelling main character. Insomniac didn't make it easy or exciting for gamers to relate to and identify with Nathan Hale.

On the other hand, Resistance 2 is unmatched as a multi-player game in almost every single way.

comparing multiplatform titles is pointless because such titles are not designed to take full advantage of the unique capabilities of each machine.

Only the best console exclusives are designed to really push their respective hardware platform to the max. Here are some examples:

3rd person shooters running at 30fps: Gears 2 vs Uncharted
1st person shooters running at 30fps: Halo 3 vs Kill Zone 2
Racing simulation running at 60fps: Forza 2 vs GT5 ...

As for Netflix HD, it's not nearly in the same class as Vudu and suffers from pixelation and other horrendous artifacts on a typical broadband connection but even on a high end consumer broadband connection costing $99 neither approach the sheer fidelity of Blu-Ray. VuduHD looks like a well upscaled DVD at best.

It due to the inferior bit-rate. You can't defeat the laws of physics.
