The format that retailers push will win.
Blu-Ray is the more profitable format.
Drunk drivers kill more people with their car than non-alcoholics. Killing people with your car does not cause you to drive while drunk.
Epic did a great job focusing the graphics engine to the small scale of combat. They redesigned the environments to cut down on wasted polygons. They also made the foreground very detailed by blurring the background. This also gives it a kind of depth of field which adds to the 3d feel of it. Great redesign shows how to make smart compromises to overcome the performance ceiling that so many developers have hit on the 360. Epic may well have the best designers in the video game business. <...
but why do I have to own my own copy to be unimpressed by the graphics?
Atleast the gameplay is improved. They really ought to fix the glitches.
Feel free to "disagree" but before you do so you really ought to see the Fable 1 vs Fable 2 video. The improvement is minimal. The polygon counts are low, the textures are unimpressive and only some of the effects look good. The lighting is also unimpressive. To sum it up, the graphics are dated. That doesn't mean the 360 couldn't do better. It just means fable 2 has mediocre graphics.
This has neither the sheer scale and scope of Resistance 2 nor the pure fidelity and immersiveness of Killzone 2. This little corridor shooter that could has had it's day.
America! I studied business and economics and have advised small businesses on such issues.
Here's just one of the many examples of stupidity for you to think about.
1) Bush sent out checks to all Americans with money the government did not have (the surplus was already spoken for) to make them more likely to support the war and vote for him for his second term.
2) Bush borrowed money from the chinese to pay for those checks
3) Bush told consume...
the in-game ones aren't at the same quality as what appear to be pre-rendered video.
but stupid consumers deserve it.
Actually, the economy is bad globally precisely because of american consumerism and the stupid policies that reinforced it. This is easily proven and has long been predicted by real economists (not the ones paid off by "think tanks" and political parties).
The problem is not that Americans spend money, it's that they spend it stupidly and greedily. This is why Americans are losing their homes (they bought stupid home loans), their cars (they bought more than they co...
Nickel and diming consumers is the strategy behind the Xbox360 and it's targeted at the average american consumer who's about as dumb and short-sighted as they get.
Just look at the credit crisis that they got themselves into. On N4G I posted months ago about this very issue and it came to fruition as the credit finally ran out. However, this only plays into Microsoft's hands as those consumers, instead of saving up for something that will cost them a lot less in the long run ...

KZ2 has far better textures and geometry as well as a much more intense and immersive environment. The animations and effects are superb. The lighting and shadows are far beyond any Unreal Engine game could hope to be.
Having said that, Gears 2 should not be viewed as the best the Xbox360 hardware can do. Gears 2's obvious shortcomings (inconsistent texture quality, low geometry, limited geometry, cheesy sprite based effects, poor shadows, inconsistent lighting, etc) are m...
still not as pretty as Killzone 2, but then again, that's not a fair comparison. Killzone 2 looks noticably superior in every respect (geometry, textures, lighting, shadows, physics, animation) and Gears of War 2 still appears to have superior texture quality overall if nothing else but what we've seen of those games haven't shown anything near the incredible scale and scope of Resistance 2.
Character design is vastly improved over the original. The scene overlooking the bay ...
That innovative lighting system is incredible. Textures are near perfect as well.
by all except those who are left-overs from the Dreamcast fan club.
because I don't like shooters, don't have time for RPGs or GT5 (despite enjoying both) but this game has changed my mind.
Really incredible concept and near perfect execution. I'll soon have a beautiful black PS3 to sit next to my Wii. The physics and graphics alone are worth $460 since they blow away everything on any platform. But more importantly this is the first game I've seen in a long time that I could really get interested in. In addition to the aforementioned benef...
but low polygon character models, environments, and shockingly poor draw-distance. Lighting from gun-fire/explosions and shadows are terribly simplified and are worse than some last-gen games like Conker on the original Xbox.
Basically, it looks like a typical Unreal Engine game that compromises on everything else for the sake of texture data. Obviously, the Xbox360 can do better than this, although the average consumer may not really care as long as it's sufficiently flashy...
Any ideas?
Employees of MS have come clean in public about how Microsoft went ahead with the release despite failures during internal production testing showed massive failure rates.
Seems some of us have a short memory.
However, Microsoft will simply buy and intimidate their way out of this lawsuit as well.
