As for the PS3 receiving a lot of Wii ports, that can't be a bad thing. Most games on all platforms are crappy. If a lot of Wii ports make it to the PS3, hopefully a few good ones (or clones) will make it as well.

The Wii revolutionized gaming as no other console has done since the original Nintendo took gaming mainstream.

Sony took the smart approach by not just copying, but also improving upon the Wii to...

Content owners aren't going to hand their stuff out for free. Google will have to prove that declining confidence in their approach to the online ad market can be reversed.

In this picture you can see just how much Gears 2 was cut back from Gears 1.

With Gears 2, they redesigned the buildings and other objects to be much simpler shapes. Gears 2 also has more fogging to reducing the draw-distance. Overall, Gears 2 was a big downgrade.

Microsoft makes a lot more money selling OS and software on PCs than on the 360. Giving the 360 a browser would cannibalize their PC business.

For the 360 division to justify adding a browser and stealing business from the PC division, Microsoft would have to charge $10/month for Live.

it's very unlikely to ignite the charts.

Stupid people like stupid games. Microsoft was trying to capture the audience that used to be Halo fans but are now older with a less silly game based on somewhat similar structural concepts but the problem is that such people tend to either grow out of games all together or just remain stuck in the same mindset and play the same kinds of games over and over and over and over and over ...

from Gears 1 in terms of environment detail.

Gamespot did a side by side of the same locations and everything from buildings to furniture was greatly simplified in Gears 2.

Even draw-distance, which wasn't exactly a strong-point in Gears 1, was reduced in Gears 2 but Gears 2 did a better job of faking draw-distance in certain scenes with cleverly painted backdrops.

Subjectively speaking, I too prefer the overall look and level of detail i...

It simply trades pixel shading (less shiny armor) to restore a bit of the environment geometry that Gears 1 had. They also changed the color.

They also still have lots of outlines strewn all over the armor rather than actual rendered detail. It's the outlines that gives the game a detailed look without it actually being all that detailed.

Chances are it will have the same sprite based effects that Gears 1 and 2 had as well as the simply on-or-off effects...

Character geometry (without jetpack) is, believe it or not, slightly down. With jet pack, it's probably about the same as before.

Need to see it in motion to find out how the effects and lighting have held up.

Frankly, if they're going to support 3D, it will be very difficult without cutbacks somewhere. Hopefully they'll cut back resolution and not effects or lighting.

Why? Because, while lower resolution usually means less det...

No surprise that they stuck with the "draw outlines everywhere" approach to artistic design.

The reality is that, since Microsoft remove the internal 3d processor last year, this thing is nothing more than a USB camera and microphone.

No doubt the idiot brigade will be out in force to disagree with reality but, whatever the real price turns out to be, as long as they think they're getting a good deal, like that $99 wifi adapter, then, as the aussies say, good on them.

That's how reporters described GoogleTV's demo. Ironically, I read it on Google's news service.

I'm sure they'll get it fixed sooner or later since they've got literally thousands of programmers. I'm sure they'll figure it out.

The arcadey "sense of speed" in that video comes from the shaking of the camera. Just watch the edges of the TV relative to the border of the video.

No real sim will have such exaggerated shaking and GT5 appears to be a pretty damned good sim.

In fact, that superb God of War 3 video draws attention to the horrendous deficits of the PS3 port of Red Dead Revolver.

Others who follow technology markets have been saying this for years.

When you sell 10M Blu-Ray players in one year it's ultimate success is almost guaranteed. However, logic and reality didn't stop HD-DVD fanatics from contending that Blu-Ray would fail.

Where did they disappear to? They've jumped ship to online streaming.

Goes back to the basic progression ... the 3-Ds, if you will, of failed fanboyism:

But the game looks incredible as always.

The only real flaw is the occasional flickering of the shadows.

I'd love to know how the hell they're rendering so much detail with such accurate lighting reproduction at such a high resolution on the equivalent of a Nvidia 7900GT.

It's simply ridiculous.

Lower res textures
More aggressive LOD
Lower res rendering

The result is a game that's blurry and lacking in detail. The PS3 version looks like it's from 2006 when developers could have been forgiven for being clueless about the hardware. It's 2010 and this kind of cheap-skate software development from a major developer is unforgivable.

For a game that's probably going to generate over a hundred million dollars in revenue it&...
