Uncharted is nothing like Killzone which is nothing like God of War.

Halo 3 is like .... Halo 3.

Greenberg was simply demonstrating that 360 owners tend to think alike and act alike while PS3 owners are much more diverse and tend to have varying preferences.

Maybe there really is something to the term "Xbot."

They're having a hard enough time supplying enough PS3s at $300.

If it's real and they've figured out additional manufacturing capacity with the new low cost boards then there are a few reasons why Sony would intentionally take a loss on hardware.

1) They finally figured out that the real money is in 3DTVs and Blu-Ray and see the PS3 as a way to encourage sales of 3DTVs, 3D Blu-Ray movies and $100 3D glasses.

2) 360 has been strug...

is a pretty universal kind of game and has sales appeal across user types from families to young single women to retirees.

Halo 3 and the Gears games only appeal to a certain kind of gamer. It just so happens that 360 owners tend to be that kid of gamer.

The Xbox360's consumer base is largely the same as the previous Xbox and relatively homogenous which means they all tend to have similar tastes in games.

The result is that all these "Xbots" tend to by the same game.

No company in gaming has ever cancelled a successful brand. They stuck with the Playstation name because it had been very successful.

MGS4 was called MGS4 because the Metal Gear Solid brand was successful.

Halo Reach has the name Halo in it because the Halo name is successful.

There are a billion games with the word Mario in it because Mario name has been very successful.

Sticking with a successful name is not just following...

The problem is that most investors have blind faith in the Microsoft mgmt which has made one strategic mistake after another while putting a huge hole in liquid assets.

A few notable failures have been Xbox, Zune, and Vista among others.

Unless you put pressure on the mgmt they will not improve. Investors have to be proactive.

Most 360s failed in three years or less.

This also helped inflate sales numbers because a replacement by 3rd party warranties, such as those by Best Buy, are counted as retail sales.

but new videos from an older build.

Still looks incredible.

is unbelievable.

I hope they are able to retain that level of detail in the final game.

You're right, these 'ring vids are just newly released videos from an older build.

Sony stuck with the playstation brand not to "buck the trend" but because it was successful

Same reason Nintendo stuck with variations of "Nintendo" for their consoles until the market moved on.

Microsoft got a foot hold in the market by going after one segment of the market, the hardcore shooter fans, but that became the brand's downfall because being associated with such gamers also carries a stigma with the rest of the population. ...

has been misfiring for years. The last good product they had was and is the PSP. The PSPGo was an improvement in many ways but it wasn't a complete product because it didn't have a touch-screen, didn't have a really good UI, and was still just a bit too bulky. It also lacked the right support infrastructure and marketing.

This is what happens when the focus is on technology rather than design.

Engineers should never, ever, ever, lead product de...

he shouldn't be drawing attention to the subject of technological achievement.

Games like Metro2033 may not have been as successful but are far more technologically advanced than the games he's produced using the same hardware.

As for Japanese games, Vanquish looks far more ambitious and innovative in terms of gameplay than Gears 1 or 2.

Perhaps Lost Planet 2 and FFX14 have slipped his attention as well?

There's p...

Was it a good game?

It basically tried to provide a grown up version of the old Halo formula.

The poor graphics may have contributed to the game's relative failure. The market they were going after with this game is probably a bit more discerning than your typical Gears or Halo player who are easily satisfied with cheap shininess.

They paid for exclusives games/IPs, timed-exclusive DLC and timed-exclusivity games, and even to simply include the 360 in what otherwise would have been a PS3 exclusive.

They spent a lot of money doing this. Now they're spending money on Natal and possibly looking into buying into Hulu's offering.

This is the best looking Unreal Engine game I've seen on consoles. The level of detail is surprisingly high. Looks like they added their own tweaks as well as the lighting appears to be more sophisticated than typical Unreal Engine games.

Well done Ninja Theory!

It's starting to look a lot like the US. Drugs, gang violence, obesity and high dropout rates.

Ever been to a football match in the UK where the crowd has not got drunk and started fighting?

There's no per-object motion blur, only the generic, cheap, camera blur that so many games have nowadays.

Killzone 2 had incredible motion blur but then again their engine was built to utilize the Cell processor.
