They deserve what they get. Wealthy and educated people can't pretend to be ignorant of the law.
When you knowingly buy something that's stolen you are as guilty as the person who actually stole it.
As for Apple, they would have filed a valid complaint with the police.
Apply ought to be furious. The future of the company rides on this product.
As someone who owns a company that depends on trade secrets, relating to design and utility, I ...
Amazing.
I feel bad for all those people who bought HD-DVD. With big companies like Microsoft and Toshiba trying their best to fool the public (remember the pure fiction 51GB HD-DVD?) they can't be blamed for making the wrong choice.
However, I have no sympathy for the supposedly geeky types who trolled forums providing free marketing for Microsoft and Toshiba by repeating the same false advertising pushed by those companies.
that he's responding to threats against him right?
Seriously. Cut the racism already. It's 2010. Time to grow a brain.
Apparently they've decided on 720P this time around which is a good start. Shooters definitely benefit from higher resolutions, particularly arcadey shooters like Halo.
To maximize available shader processing I hope they've chosen to go with 720P with no hardware AA (only 1 tile required), then use all the procesing power saved from using just 1 tile to implement a really nice, high quality motion blur.
The only way that future 360 titles can avoid looking complete...
As we have seen from high quality screenshots, the textures and general level of detail leave something to be desired.
In most areas it's not even at the quality of Uncharted 1.
Apart from a really strange rendering problem in the bottom most image (you can see the lighting within the distant fog through Alan's head and upper torso) the lighting looks great.
Bloody incredible.
I still don't want to buy a PS3. Maybe when GT5 comes out.
It's just going to waste too much of my time.
BTW, for gaming, 3D does come at a cost. Sony's 3D is real 3D so it's literally computing each frame twice. Can I put up with a 3D GT5 running at 480P? I don't know.
That little clip justifies what I've been saying all along.
By choosing (it was definitely a choice) 540P they were able to implement what appears to be really good real-time environment lighting and shadows.
This requires a lot more shader work than standard texture/normal map oriented 360 games like Gears of War 1 & 2.
At 540P, the GPU gives them 77% more shader cycles per pixel. That's almost double!
Again, for a sim, this would h...
1) I disagree that (based on what we've seen) that this a "very good looking" game.
2) You examples of Star Ocean and White Knight Chronicles are poor choices. However, it is true that resolution vs shader quality is the big trade-off that every developer has to make. Increase resolution and you have to drop shader quality to maintain the frame-rate.
Alan Wake made the right choice by choosing 540P with 4xMSAA. A somewhat surreal game like Alan Wake ca...
Why do you think they made the HUD information 720P?
They didn't want the HUD info to be blurry.
I expect that it will look much better when it's finished. What they showed in the video looked simply terrible. The textures, in particular, were simply horrid.
the other clips in the video (ninja boy, water girl) are choreographed.
The actual real-time gameplay looks messy and imprecise.
Lots of jittery limbs and way too much delay.
720P w/2xMSAA would have been ugly on any TV.
Read my blog post for more info on why it was correct for the developers to choose 540P for this game.
As I stated in my N4G blog post
960x540 with 4xMSAA and upscaling to 720P or 1080P
is the best resolution for this game. It provides the optimum balance of shader quality, anti-aliasing, and resolution.
720P would have meant more jaggies (2x rather than 4x MSAA) and simpler shading.
No doubt I'll get a ton of disagrees (as usual) from people who never tire of being wrong.

but this might actually push me to buy a PS3.
How the hell are they getting this kind of visual quality out of, what's essentially, an Nvidia GeForce 7900GT at 60 bloody frames per second!
there seems to have been a major downgrade.
The first few demos show a lot of promise. Hopefully they'll be able to get the game up to that quality again on consoles.
why does he waste so much of his life doing this instead of getting laid and making money?
As soon as it hits the bridge the flying van turns into a car.
Seems they swapped in the wrong model. Oops.
Other than that, this seems to be a Silent Hill for the Xbox360.
Not necessarily a bad thing for those who like that kind of game/theme.
