The market's about to be flooded with 3D cameras.

Their engine can easily display all those buildings and trees with a lot more detail. The reason the buildings have low res textures is because it's not worth the effort from the standpoint of artist/programmer time and expense.

Turn10 actually did a really good job with the graphics side of the engine but, in terms of public relations, they shot themselves in the foot because their smack talk and over-the-top claims distracted from their positive accomplishments.

In other words, by over-promising, they set themselves up to, effectively, fail.

Expose it too early and it becomes a battle to change people's first impressions.

Perhaps Jaffe should have been a bit more patient or perhaps his funding is running out and he was hoping that if Sony saw the long lines that they would pick it up.

Who knows.

Whether he was right or wrong to expose the game at this early stage of development, he has a big challenge ahead.

PD knows how to do it right with excellent granularity. All those buildings, cars, trees, pillars, benches, etc.. simply disappear from the RAM when they're not visible, allowing room for high res textures and high polygon car models.

It's funny how people talk about Killzone 2, Uncharted 2, and God of War 3, but few mention GT5. It's probably because we've seen it for so long we've become accustomed to it but we should not forget the level of achievemen...

At what resolution?

How much AA?

What frame-rate?

How about AA?

I like what I've seen of the 3DS but that kind of statement is not just misleading but is potentially the kind of over-promise/under-deliver mistake that can generate a lot of negative publicity.

Just check out the many articles on N4G about games like Alan Wake and Forza 3 to understand just how badly products and their makers get ripped apa...

How do ebay bids on a free plush toy handed out at E3 demonstrate that Kinectimals "sell big?"

http://shop.ebay.com/?_from...

Having said that. Kinectimals is one of the few good ideas I've seen from Kinect/Natal. Retail plush toys are a good way to bring in small kids and their moms.

Nintendo didn't do HD because most people don't have HDTVs.

Similarly, they won't do a 3D console until 3D is established as the standard.

PS3 is doing 3D because they're trying to drive TV and Blu-Ray sales. Sony is betting big on 3D becoming the standard and are pushing it across all their business lines including film.

It's the enormous gap in features and performance between the real and staged/fake Kinect/Natal demos that suggest that those staged demos aren't simply for the sake of a "smooth presentation."

If you want to change people's poor impression of Kinect/Natal, instead of whining and name-calling, try providing links to actual Kinect/Natal gameplay (not "staged"/fake demo) that show real gameplay that's as accurate and responsive as the Eyetoy ...

simultaneously?

If so, all users of that account can only use the same console at any one time. Sounds like a rip-off at $100.

On the other hand, if they can use different consoles simultaneously, then it's definitely less of a rip-off than current $50/yr pricing.

to PS2 Eyetoy games. The performance of Kinect/Natal is also noticably inferior with much more lag and less precision.

This isn't what was promised.

If that's how you feel about the games demonstrating Eyetoy's superior response and precision, you must have a really low opinion of Kinect/Natal with it's imprecise detection and massive lag.

but because, historically, tax cuts are ineffective at improving economic performance.

What does improve economic performance is innovation and exports.

Neither party has done either particularly well.

Talking about tax cuts are an easy way to get votes from a brain dead populace but, in the real world, as the US public is now finding out, tax cuts means more borrowing.

Even the cheapest webcams are infrared.

In fact, if you open up your little webcam you'll see a cheap little plastic filter that blocks infrared light. Natal/Kinect uses a similar cheap filter to block non-infrared light.

The parts cost of Natal/Kinect is about $5-$15, ie., slightly more than your typical cheap webcam.

It's not even HD. It just has dirt cheap 640x480x30fps CMOS sensors.
