aren't selling a lot of "slims."
They didn't get many in the first place yet they're sitting on the shelves.
Just go to your local Best Buy or Target and ask how many of the new model they're selling.
There is also no significant retail demand for Kinect. Only a few dorks even knows it exists. No one else knows or cares at this point. Microsoft has a huge marketing challenge ahead.
Carmack was behind the times during the PS2 gen. While newer and better developers were pumping out visuals like Jak 3, Ghost Hunter, and God of War, Carmack (who was part of the Xbox division's board of advisors) did nothing but complain about the Emotion Engine and how the PS2 should had an intel processor.
Nowadays there are many better developers and vastly more impressive technology and truly dynamic visuals.

but if this works half as well as advertised it's one of the few Kinect games that could go down well with the Halo "Hard core" Dorks.
I can just imagine them pulling this out from deep inside a pile of month old dirty clothes to secretly practice dance moves.
Yet it's something that even old people and kids could enjoy. However, they have to make it work.
If it's glitchy it will turn people off and Kinect will fail com...
Fool me twice, shame on me.
That's what anyone who listens Molyneux says ought to be themselves.
Apart from his long-standing reputation as someone who over-promises and under-delivers, he has been caught blatantly lying about Milo and putting out a series of fake and deceptive videos. This guys a con-man par excellence and a long term liability to Microsoft.
In other words, when you chat with Milo, it will actually be a front end for Microsoft's absolutely massive customer service/development operation in India. It can even double up as a conversation training tool (text input on their end) on the India side of things.
When you do the math, it's actually quite feasible.

IGN (and many other game sites like CNET) took bribes to run this multi-page ad (or a slightly reworded variation) masquerading as an "article." It was shown as a "special investigation" by IGN.
After it became obvious to readers that this was just a paid ad, IGN sneakily added the following paragraphs at a much later date:
"It's 3:30 pm on Friday, May 20, the last day of E3. The fine PR folks from Microsoft, who invited us t...
Rage does appear to be partially cell-shaded. Additionally, nearly all the lighting and shadows you see on-screen is baked into textures. Even things like ceiling pipes are often just painted textures. The high-res bull-shots give away the lack of geometry and detail.
Between the shader operated texturing system and the decision to go with 60fps, the end result is that available shader processing time per frame is less than half of what's available to 30fps games l...
Reality sucks for fanboys.
360 fanboys, in particular, are the worst. They keep looking to the future to provide a game that can "prove" that the 360 can compete graphically when time and again they've got their hopes up only to be badly let down.
It's no longer Microsoft's fault for misleading you folks about the 360's capabilties and value proposition.
It's like the old saying,
"...
The PS3's GPU's raw shading capability is sufficient to run Gears of War and Bioshock at maximum settings at better than 720P.
The cell processor does more than just help with basic rendering. It also does shadow map acceleration, anti-aliasing (up to 16x) and post-processing (such as depth of field), which are the biggest drags on any GPUs performance.
This effectively doubles the GPU's shading capability. In some cases, the "boost&quo...
who prefer simple, arcadey gameplay.
I suppose it all comes down to sales.
Only plain old VIDEO capture is 640x480 x 30fps which, itself, is still extremely crappy.
Again, we're comparing MOTION capture not VIDEO capture.
MOTION capture comparison
PS2 Eyetoy:
Captures MOTION at 320x240 at 60fps
Kinect:
Captures MOTION at 320x240 at 30fps
PS2 Eyetoy:
Captures motion at 320x240 at 60fps
Kinect:
Captures motion at 320x240 at 30fps
We know the specs.
It uses a 320x240 CMOS for depth with a simple plastic color filter that blocks non-IR light.
This is dirt cheap stuff and anyone can recreate this with any cheap webcam. Just check youtube for a billion DIY guides.

Rage is more cartoony.
Technically speaking, Fallout 3 has a handful of more advanced effects while Rage has more color and texture variety.
Not much to choose between them since neither is mind-blowing from a purely technical standpoint.
Rage has a significant disadvantage compared to games like Fallout 3 or Gears in that a portion of shader power has to be used to run the "megatexture" system which enables texture variety. ...
Resistance 2 had some of the best water effects but the rest of the visuals were unimpressive. The reason wasn't technical but rather artistry.
Character models were dull, environments lacked atmosphere, etc...
Hopefully, they'll hire some good art direction to take advantage of their engine.
This camera doesn't take instant 3D shots with a simple click. Rather it uses the concept of the stereoscopic parallax to construct a 3d image from shots taken sequentially from different angles
A true 3D camera (like the kind produced by a company I used to work for) would take both shots at once. Of course, this requires 2 lenses with synchronized focus/zoom/etc, and if you don't want to compromise resolution, 2 synchronized sensors, among other special circuitry....
The 360 "slim" is not sold out.
Even though each retail store is only getting a handful, they haven't moved many of the slims.
Microsoft has tried every trick in the book to manufacture excitement and the facade of success but the reality is that the slim is simply not doing that well.
Once the liquidation prices of the "fat" 360s are gone, the "spike" will go away as well.
What's...
The road and grass textures are top notch. Everything else ... not so much.
Low polygon car models, low res reflections, and lack of dynamic lighting, etc...Is it even 60fps?
To it's credit, it does have more cars on the track.

when Microsoft claimed that the 360 "slim" was selling out.
Any one with the even the slightest bit of common sense knew that the bulk of 360 hardware sold in the last couple of weeks was due to the liquidation prices on the "fat" models.
