I think there is a bit of a stigma around 720P because it was so commonplace last generation.
Xbox One should already have all of the features that DirectX 12 will bring to the PC, the reason that DirectX on the PC has historically not had low level access is due to the thousands of different GPU types on the market.
All DirectX12 is going to do is make the performance gap between PC and consoles even larger, PC owners are the winners really.
They're freeing up warehouse space for PS4!
I don't know why people felt it couldn't, 16x AF has been a feature of AMD GPU's since about the time dinosaurs roamed the Earth.
I'd be interested to hear from the Thief developers why they felt they should use trilinear filtering on the PS4 version, I hope Microsoft haven't started paying developers to hold back the PS4 versions, it's the sort of thing they would do.
I bet that Eidos claim that it was a bug or oversight and patch it ...
Number 2 will be multiplat, because once the hype and novelty wears off exclusivity won't really be sought after.
I see that resolution suddenly matters to Xbone owners...
They deserve it for not cutting any corners when developing the PS4 hardware, or trying to force the camera onto users, or trying to force DRM onto people. etc
"Finally, based on Terathon's comment I will not expect great things from your engine. ESRAM has been around for ages, and ways to deal with it is well documented. If you can't deal with it, then I wonder about your C4 engine....."
It's not that developers can't deal with the ESRAM, it's just that PS4 memory subsystem is far superior.
Developers are looking at the Xbone after using PS4 and thinking "****, they're still u...
It won't do Microsoft's reputation any good if they abandon another console like they did the original Xbox.
Do you really think Kinect is immune to government security agency spying? it's the perfect tool for them sitting slap bang in the middle of every living room. Welcome to 1984.
"We live in a world full of fixed pixel 1080p displays so as a player I hope these current generation consoles were designed with that in mind"
The Xbox One isn't designed for 1080P, that's why it's getting so much flak for being more expensive.

A Microsoft developer has effectively ...
They had to confirm this? the beta can't even run 792P without dips into the 40's, they'd have to target 30fps to get anywhere close to 1080P.
Average graphics confirmed... PS4 version will probably have anti-aliasing or something unless half the GPU power is laying wasted.
I don't know why people keep bringing up Xbox 360 as a measuring stick of Xbox One's success in early sales, Microsoft were still a relatively unknown brand in gaming when 360 was released and it got off to a very slow start due to the whole RROD fiasco and general reliability.
360 picked up most of its momentum later on in the cycle when Sony released an underwhelming and expensive PS3.
There's a video showing frequent dips into the 40s here:

The thing is this utterly brilliant idea should have been made pre-launch, they're only now reacting to slow sales.
Sims 4 looks a lot blurrier to me, the shot with the house and car looks way better on Sims 3.
To be honest the sooner Microsoft tell developers to just focus on 720P instead of trying to match PS4 the sooner resolution-gate will die down. It's mostly Microsoft's lies that Xbox One is as powerful as PS4 that is fueling the fire.
Sure it is, but if you develop a console that is balanced for 720P then 1080P won't be too common a choice by developers.
PS4 could run games at 4k/60fps if the graphics were reduced considerably but no developer is going to go down that route, the hardware is just not cut out for it without heavy sacrifices.
Even with DX12 Xbone is not going to get remotely close to PS4 performance, the hardware it requires just doesn't physically exist inside the console. The day Xbone is able to match PS4 performance (excluding games held back on PS4) is the day I will stop calling witchcraft BS.
