PS3 and Xbox 360 were two very different architectures which used different hardware to obtain a similar level of performance, PS4 & Xbone use near identical architecture besides choice of GDDR5 v DDR3+ESRAM and the fact that Microsoft have chosen a much more inferior GPU.

It's still $100 more expensive and with inferior GPU, what they need to do to make it appealing is:
> Sell Kinect separately.
> Fit a GPU on par with PS4.
> Drop the price to PS4 levels.
Even if they just remove Kinect and lower the price same as PS4 it's still overpriced because they cheaped out on the GPU.
The architecture/hardware of PS4/Xbone is virtually identical besides Xbone having a much more inferior GPU, there's not going to be hidden performance like you had with an extremely complex architectures like Cell.
Type of thing you'd expect to come out of the mouths of a company selling an inferior console at a higher price.

So this basically means that the 32GB ESRAM offers the same bandwidth as 8GB GDDR5 but ONLY if you are reading and writing at the same time, if all you are doing is reading it is still 102GB/s.
Sounds like marketing to me, you don't just suddenly realise that some hardware is bidirectional.
PS3 will be supported with games for many more years, just like PS1 & PS2 were.

The fact is though Sony considered Microsoft's method but opted against it because they felt it it would be more difficult for developers.
With PS4 developers can just store everything conveniently in memory, with Xbone they are going to have to still juggle data.
The Xbox 360 is as good as dead, it's not like they'd make massive amounts from it anyway given the lack of future software. Microsoft is predictability putting all of it's eggs in the Xbone basket and dropping 360 like a lead balloon, as they did the original Xbox.

Have pre-orders for Xbox One improved to satisfactory levels since? the fact it is still underpowered and overpriced compared to PS4, if MS are expecting sales parity like with 360 they'll be disappointed.
As I have said earlier drivers are not needed in consoles, the fact that XBone uses DirectX and drivers is a hinderance to performance.
