They probably ordered a shedload of units and are now worried Microsoft will drop the price drastically to stimulate demand. £410 now is better than £350 in 2-3mths time.
Someone ordered too many units and realised the demand isn't there.
Microsoft have already launched in their major markets (US/UK), PS4 is likely to sell as much (if not more) PS4's in Japan alone than Xbox One will in its leftover territories.
Microsoft have been clever during launch as they have focused stock where it was guaranteed sell, if they had released in as many territories as Sony did their overall sales figures would be much lower due to suffering shortages in their major markets and lack of interest elsewhere.
It's too expensive simple as, people are buying a 360 or PS3 instead and getting more for their money.
The only people think that Wii U is worth it are the minority of die hard Nintendo/Mario/Zelda fans, the rest of the populace see 360/PS3 as a better choice.
It looks like a manufacturing fault.
In fairness it makes a change from a massive list of necessary bugfixes, it's not like they released half a game like some developers.
I was thinking the same but US-China history isn't exactly rosy either and I think the Chinese government would have something to say about Kinect and its potential for US spying on Chinese citizens.
Indeed, it was a smart move to focus all of their stock in the few countries where demand would be highest... they have supplied ample stock to their biggest markets whereas Sony are still struggling to put consoles on shelves worldwide, that's why sales so far are only a million apart and demand for PS4 is still really high.
I think the gap in total sales will continue to widen as Sony ramp up production and of course they are still yet to release in one of their major ...
I think this will be mirrored everywhere except the US and perhaps the UK where the margin won't be as big.
They will just bring it all in steadily one **** thing at a time, it's only when huge sweeping changes are made in a short space of time that people will react and say no.

Maybe Microsoft can hire him to redesign the Windows 8 UI too.
Well regardless of what generation people see it as price is defined by features/specification.
Which console would you recommend for someone wanting to play online?
...for a huge catalogue of games?
...for bluray?
...if they are on a tight budget?
The fact is Wii U doesn't have much going for it compared to even 360/PS3 aside from a few exclusives and it likely won't even be a consideration for anyon...
I've said many time and had my head chewed off by irate Nintendo fans, the main problem with Wii U is price.
The reason why Wii U is selling poorly is because it's losing sales to 360/PS3, Wii U is not even remotely close to being 'next gen' so it shouldn't be priced as such, they even say in the article that its CPU is actually worse than 360... people aren't going to get ripped off to play a couple of first party exclusives.
Once its...
It's probably the fact that his Xbox 360 is crushing blacks and Xbox One (at 1080P) isn't, Xbox 360 had its output interfered with just like Xbox One upscaled. The "washed out" look you describe is probably normal untampered with output (at least for an LCD). That's why PS3 was often described as looking washed out compared to 360, Sony don't **** about with the output.
We don't know if it's the truth yet, they've pulled the wool over everybody's eyes before:

"The Company's Surface RT product was experiencing poor customer demand and lackluster sales... Surface RT inventory experienced a material decline in value during the quarter ended March 31, 2013... ...
6v6 - What happened to the power of the cloud??
As I linked earlier Microsoft are being sued for lying investors about Surface RT poor sales, they pulled the wool over the media's eyes pretty good.
It's reminiscent of Surface RT where Microsoft lied to the media and even its own shareholders about sales, if they announced that sales were poor it would just make people want one even less.

The answer to that is pretty simple, PS4 supply is scarce by comparison and people who want one are still unable to get one.
Here in the UK I could order an Xbox One right now if I wanted one and get it delivered straight away... PS4 on the other hand is still out of stock everywhere and when it does show up as available it goes out of stock again within a matter of minutes.
I still don't understand why they don't drop the price, any losses selling hardware will be made up for in the increased profits in software sales.
I would be tempted if it was less than £180 with a game, £240 with a game lol gtfo, I'd sooner just spend the extra on a PS4 and wait for games or stick with what I've got (PS3) and save the money.
