"What?"

It was obvious the dominance of Sony had changed when the PS3 arrived while the Xbox 360 managed to vastly improve from its previous generation. The PS3 was priced high, double what the PS2 and PSOne were. It had a very weak line-up of games. Their arrogance suggested developers get busy and crack the difficult to work on hardware, while gamers often got the short end of the stick and were stuck waiting while big games they were waiting for often got delayed...

It wasn't off-topic at all Hicken, online passes only matter to used games don't it? Obviously someone who buys a game new that online pass won't matter will it because the code is included and no charge is applied? It only matters when those online codes have been registered, thus the whole point of used. The latter half of your now edited post was actually off-topic.

This is why everything is still up in the air. I'm sure lawyers are going at it back and forth. I guess that's how online passes got around it, they treated the locked components as digital goods, not on the physical disc. Then again how did they get away with charging consumers to unlock content already on the disc? So I'm not sure how this will work on Xbox One games.

This is all rather confusing and it started years ago with DLC and online passes. I'm sure ...

Not every console has to be $600 that offers BC. The Xbox 360, the Wii, Wii U, and the PS2 all did to an extent.

"Yeah, his update is still sad. He just can't seem to say "Sony is ahead of Microsoft." "

Neither has Sony. I have yet to hear any official announcement yet from them. Not that it really matters anymore anyways but obviously it does to some.

@dedicatedtogamers

"Take away the used game market and I guarantee you we will see a decrease of new-game purchases."

That is likely true. However how much revenue will be gained to a game publisher if the used market is now controlled (where part of the revenue now comes back to them) and will that be offset by those people buying less new games?

"In the earlt '90s, it was game rental stores that were killing gaming. Then ...

Does anyone know why some publishers and Sony use online codes and charge extra once those codes have been used?

Your first comment said they have alternatives yet you didn't comment any further as to what they are or even if you agreed with the ones the topic touched upon. Instead you keep telling everyone they should not be compensated beyond the initial sale. A few outspoken developers disagree. So here we are yet again in a stalemate, with no real answers that will please both sides.

As a game developer they have the right to distribute their content a...

I said you can't pick a winner this early, you are suggesting we can try and pick a winner. Big difference.

That was a good article but I do believe the market has changed, which is why Microsoft is trying to bring other mediums to the Xbox brand than just games. We've seen the consumer reaction to the Wii U and the Playstation Vita so nobody can say with great confidence these two systems will outperform their last attempts.

In a world of social media and wanting content quickly while multi-tasking consumers are more demanding than ever for having devices that do more things....

You've already said Steam is also anti-consumer.You are not a fan of DLC either are you? So again I'll ask, what other alternatives do you propose?

@JokesOnYou,

What will be interesting is after E3 and all those people who say it's about the games don't talk about the games and try and shift the focus on something else. At that point it's probably best for them to just ignore the system all together but what is really going on is some just want it to fail regardless of the games.

Microsoft will never win these people over and quite frankly, that's ok. You continue to see the pessimism shi...

We can't pick a winner because we don't know how receptive the market will be to either one or how the market has changed over the years. The Wii U failed to meet expectations, so did the Playstation Vita. So how can anyone predict the success of the PS4 or Xbox One?

Will the recession play a role and what price will these systems be? Are people looking for a pure gaming device or a more entertainment box? Will people actually care at the end of the day over some of ...

Let's just see how much they talk about non-gaming stuff at E3. If Microsoft spends too much time on Call of Duty Ghosts that is proof Activision and MS have an agreement that goes beyond DLC. If they close or open the show with that it means MS has learned nothing and are not interested in taking a leadership role in investing in their own ip's.

So as gamers let's just see how much of the discussion will actually be post-E3 about the games they showed on N4G and ...

You said the same thing about the Xbox 360. Some people really need a reality check. The whole article is basically saying having an always on system is bound to have issues and that Microsoft's decision could be a mistake. They also hate the idea of blocking or making used games more difficult. Both are strikes against the Xbox One. What they did touch up on is the issues surrounding PSN which is true. It does hav...

My comment was in reply to the very first comment, hence the reply button. Mind telling us who you're replying to and what it is you're here to discuss? This topic is about Microsoft saying they like Sony's view on the digital space with games like Journey. Only to have the very first comment that they should just shut up and stop digging themselves deeper.

So again, mind telling us what you're here to add?
