Agreed, EA would have made good money porting BF3 to the WiiU, especially during the holiday season. After hearing about the "lazy" Madden port, however, I think that this is a good move by EA.
If the news were reversed, and they were just now confirming BF3, EA MIGHT have to rush the game to make the launch window. BF4 arriving in 2013, would only make a "rushed" schedule worse and the WiiU might get a bad reputation. Could you imagine buying BF3 for the ...

I'll give you Mario, but you are wrong about Zelda. Most of the time it takes 5 to 6 years for a new games. Also, with the exception of the Gamecube (Twilight Princess), there is no more than 2 Zelda games per console. Imo that does not qualify "as all the time".

You make interesting points about Madden, but I really don't see what Nintendo has to do with this.
EA is also releasing Mass Effect 3, and FIFA 13, during the WiiU's launch window. Both of these games are getting good buzz, so why not Madden? I can assure you that the answer has nothing to do with "Nintendo holding back tools".
Madden games come out every year, so in the long run neither company will be hurt too badly.
The first Madden game to release on the N64 was also rushed by EA Sports. The game was actually released without team names and logos (just the names of the city). Needless to say, this game sold poorly.
