@whomever

They didn’t CHANGE the doctor into a dad, that part was left undefined.

Hence, not a retcon.

And they did not change Ellie’s expression. That moment is my favorite part of every game, I’ve seen it half a dozen times; and it is the same thematic moment in every version. They do update the graphics to better depict the original motion capture (which NEVER changes), but that is a far cry from changing the ending.

Who would’ve thought stripping away the unique identity of the most recent iterations would make it generic and repetitive….

@whoever

“imposes a different interpretation”

New information was given to solidify one guess for Part 2 being right over the other, but that info didn’t CHANGE anything; because what was clarified wasn’t known at all before, and instead was ambiguous (ie not married to any single interpretation). They answer unknowns, like making the doc a father, but what was NEW that CHANGED? The doc being a father was ambiguous, not known either way, for example. ...

I read the Reddit posts, both of them, and I still wholeheartedly disagree with any accusations of retconning.

I’m not sure the author knows what “retconning” is. A true “retcon” changes EVERYTHING about a premise, or at least turns it sideways. For instance, imagine if Part 2 was all about how Ellie was a figment of Joel’s imagination in Part 1.

That would be a “retcon”.

Instead, Part 1’s brief ending left a bunch of details ambiguou...

I never understand the references to “retcons” and “changing Joel” in Part 2….

Joel was a killer turned savior in Part 1. If you missed that, that’s understandable, it means the story succeeded at humanizing Joel. But Joel was NOT perfect by any stretch, and he was VERY selfish, like virtually everyone else in that world.

He was a monster based on the ending alone, at the very least, among plenty of other details…

…. So what was retco...

I guess Cult of the Lamb devs didn’t wanna take a meek check to sell out to Game Pass. I can understand a dev wanting to secure a solid ROI by taking a safer check to be available on a sub service, but I hope some devs are still confident enough in their product to take it straight to market for full ownership.

I tend to prefer owning to renting…

I don’t see this, or any 1:1 rebuild of a game worth $70 for old fans like myself, because they didn’t need to redesign the levels and mechanics. Initially designing the game costs money, and they get to skip that step.

So, for me, the value is at about $50, and I’m sure their development costs could afford that, too.

But, with that said, I also know they need to pay for game development anyway they can. If they can turn a big profit on a cheaper to deve...

Oh no, they launched remaster #3 Day 1 on PC that way Sony can properly promote the show (remaster #4…) releasing in 6-9 months?

Boohoo

That is hardly indicative of every other exclusives’ timelines for PC porting. And fanboys that can’t tolerate a 3-5 year old game being allowed to spread its wings to PC to suppprt the devs…. They can grow up; Sony recovered their investment, and the devs continue to get the best support in the industry, and those are the ...

What is your point? Do you have a better plan to pay for improved graphics every year? That isn’t automatic.

1280d ago 0 agree24 disagreeView comment

Okay, go ahead and show me what backs your “1000%” assurance.

I’m basing my statement on prices dropping on games like Spider-Man, GoT, LoU, and DS. If the games still sold well (ie continued to sell to every new console owner), they’d hold their value (like Halo and BotW, which held/still hold the titles of “best game on this console/one game everyone gets” for entire gens).

So, where’s your data?

1280d ago 9 agree14 disagreeView comment

Sony fans don’t care if exclusives launch on PC 3-5 years after they’ve already played them.

Those games don’t ship consoles anymore. Let the devs make money.
