Well if a company is planning to have a closed beta, it might make more economical sense to ensure that the people who get invited are actually interested in the title, and may not even use their beta key...
Instead of wasting an invite on someone who might have no intentions of buying the game, this is a way to Invite only those folks who are committed to playing it... You get better, more reliable feedback that way...

We're getting Team Osiris as a story telling device. Bringing in new characters with a different perspective is a tried and true way to logically educate the viewer on things that the Main Protagonist already knows...

They don't recode the games... They pack each individual game with the emulation software, so it "tricks" the Xbox 1 into thinking it's running an Xbox 1 game...
The console IS emulating real time. The xb1 runs the emulator, the emulator runs the 360 game. If they were recoding the games for xb1, they wouldn't need an emulator...
People who have yet to upgrade, might choose the console that allows them to play their old games as well as new ones...
No, people aren't going to buy an console just for BC, but it could push you over the edge of you haven't made a choice yet, especially if you plan to trade in your console.

Changing HDDs is annoying because you have to reinstall everything... And there's no easy to install anything bigger than 2tb...

BC wouldn't really be shooting themselves in the foot... PS Now isn't a BC alternative... The end goal is a platform agnostic way to deliver playstation games. It isn't about playing PS3 games on PS4. It's about playing any game on your Sony TV w/o the need for a console...
There's no reason Sony couldn't profit from offering BC, while also profiting from offering PS Now...
None of the software data you posted suggests 3:1... It's 2:1... Which will probably be the going rate from here on out....
Which is still too big a market for most publishers to skip altogether...
