You didn't read the article, did you? The point was that the "goreporn" was going to provide a different tone and a potentially a horror atmosphere that is shocking enough to reinvigorate the entire genre.
A good game is more than gameplay and story. It's an experience. The Tomb Raider reboot has every chance to be an experience.
@Raiinstorm - I don't see why the length has anything to do with anything. If it offers what it set out to offer (a couple of hours of throwaway fun... just like Grindhouse cinema), then $60 isn't so bad.
I don't mind paying $15/ hour if I'm being entertained.
@killerhog: once again, look up "Grindhouse Cinema." Sexploitation is a part of the genre.
Gamers all like to claim that games are art and everything, but the moment something isn't completely obvious - the minute a game is a homage to an old style of cinema, the moment a game breaks with convention, the moment a game brings themes from outside the game - the moment a game does anything artistic, then people criticise it.
You want games to be ar...
@fastNslowww - look up "grindhouse cinema." Suda is into making games that are deliberately B-grade. In his case it's because, like Tarantio and Rodriguez, it amuses him.
According to Reggie, Friend Codes are still in, and while there are "system achievements," like there are in the 3DS apparently, there are no game achievements unless the developers plug them in themselves.
"Square Enix needs to stop depending on Final Fantasy so much and start making new quality original games"
So... what they're already doing? Good to know.
Nier
Star Ocean
Dragon Quest series
Eidos Interactive games (Deus Ex, Hitman, Tomb Raider)
The World Ends With You
Taito games (Space Invaders)
Yep. They don't do *anything* else alright.
"Though the Atelier series might not be the epitome of Japan’s RPG industry"
Like hell it isn't. Of those JRPGs that are still traditional and not trying ever-so-hard to be modern and hip, Atelier is by far the best.
I suspect it will happen in the next few years. Apple's hostility towards the games industry was largely a result of Steve Jobs - he didn't much like games, and allowing games on the iOS devices was a reluctant afterthought.
Tim Cook is a pretty savvy businessman. He's going to see $$$s in gaming, I think. That bluetooth controller will happen...
It's really unfortunate. Cyanide clearly loves the Game of Thrones setting. They just don't have the resources to do it the justice it really needs.
That said, only Bioware and Bethesda in the RPG would would have the resources to do it justice.
I loved Drakengard too. R.I.P Cavia :(
That's a pity. Game of Thrones offers up some incredible RPG material :(
I have the DS game, and it's a very special experience indeed. I can't wait to play on the big TV :)
Having to wait one or two days to play a game =/= not being able to play a game at all.
Completely legit review to give it 0/10 because you can't play it for one day.
These guys are great. Wishing them all the success in the (flat) world!
@snp: Now try current statistics. Average Australian wage in 2011: A$68,791.

Average US wage in 2010 (the most up to date info I could find in a quick search of Google): $26,364

The Australian government also conveniently decided to ignore that the average wage in Australia is a lot higher than the US, and the cost of business is a lot higher in the US.
Good to see them sticking up for the people though. It's not like they're trying to turn around from being the least popular government in power ever here or anything.
Awesome, another Love Plus fan!
The thing that always gets me about that game is that when you bring it up on a forum, more often than not someone will go "lol isn't that the game that the dude in Japan married?" In doing that, of course, they're dismissing the game as a stupid game for perverts.
Sure. That happened once. In Australia a guy married a fridge, so clearly everyone who owns a fridge is a dirty pervert.
Apparently not you!
And if helghast102 doesn't care about something, then no one else should discuss it, because clearly he is the supreme arbiter of what is and isn't worth talking about on this planet!
Thank you for delivering your divine judgement, sir!
Well said, and agreed.
It's just a pity because just like people are missing out on some great games if they object to the violence, people are missing out if they don't play, say, Atelier Rorona because it has a bit of leg in it.
Because it's a really great *game*, and I thought that was what was important here.
Yeah, it's always fun to take sentences out of context. Why, you're even able to create entirely new meanings out of them!
Hint: you left out this bit: "To paraphrase the chatter on social networks and the like:" before the part you quoted. Kinda important.
