My guess is MS have more servers to absorb the extra traffic but extra servers can only do so much.
PSN seems to work in the daytime UK time but in the evening it crashes. They obviously don't have the server capacity to handle both the DDoS attacks and the busy period when all the americans come online.

Digital games should work offline. As long as your ps4 is set as the primary console.

A beta test would have stress tested the servers so any problems with them could have been fixed.

It's nothing to do with firmware updates.
My console has the latest update.
It's the game or the servers.
Also you don't have to manually check for updates. All firmware updates become mandatory after a couple of days which means you can't even connect to Live until you accept the prompt to update
Total disaster of a launch.
It's now been 22 hours since the game launched here and in all that time I have only managed to get into 2 games.
This is starting to look like the Driveclub of xbox.
Chart-track don't count digital sales.
So anyone who bought the game digitally won't be included in the sales figures.
This could distort the charts.
There is also the fact that the free upgrade offer from ps3 to ps4 and xbox360 to xbox one won't be included either which will again distort the charts.

The Wii U is a generation behind. It's not in the same class as the ps4 or xbox one.
It's not much more powerful than the xbox 360 or ps3.
It also isn't selling well in the countries that matter. My mate works in Asda and they only ever managed to sell one Wii U in his store. The ps4 and X1 on the other hand are flying off the shelves.
