"people buying the wii when it is there because they know that when they go there next time there may not be and there won't be for god knows how long"
Except they can't buy the Wii because there aren't any in stock.
That's what a shortage is. The inability to buy something because it's been sold out (because the price is too low -- all shortages can feasibly be solved through a price hike). It doesn't refer to people who, by virtue of the fact that th...
"by now i think it is clear that nintendo is intentionally producing less wiis than they should be and have been since the beginning"
The purpose of a business is to make money. Given that they're operating at a fixed price, shortages by definition mean that Nintendo is losing out on making money. You're saying they're purposefully losing money in this deal?
"even though the wii sells like crazy by getting the world out that there is a "shor...
I'm an EGM man myself, but whether Nintendo Power is or isn't one of the most well-respected magazines in existence, being a magazine *period* means they're still above pretty much, uh, 99% of web-based publications.
Yeah, the Wii version of The Force Unleashed is the one with the Multiplayer Duel Mode. They show some of it in the above video.
I was always under the impression that satire actually involved some form of... humor.
Couldn't have said it better myself.
I've never been able to understand people when they say things like "Wouldn't it be great if X Console and Y Console totally failed and Z Console was the only thing on the market!"
Gaming, like all industries, needs competition to thrive as a medium. Even if people only like one system and don't like the alternatives, it's important that those alternatives exist.
If I'm not mistaken.
"I would love to have a one on one discussion with Reggie to get the full story on what is going on and to see if my biggest fears are true: that Nintendo is intentionally hoarding Wiis and Wii Fits in order to create an artificial hype."
Right, because intentionally making substantially less money than you could be making is the *keystone* strategy of every business.
No offense, but you lost pretty much all credibility you had when you wrote "I can honestly say that the Wii is the worst console they have ever released."
The Virtual Boy and all 14 of its games beg to differ.
"I'm wondering once Wii gets the AAA third party support what the argument against the system will be."
The same arguments as now, most likely.
Step 1: Someone says the Wii has no AAA third party support.
Step 2: Someone else counters with a list of games generally accepted to be incredibly well done that have been released by third parties, i.e., Umbrella Chronicles, Zack and Wiki, No More Heroes, etc.
Step 3: The first ...
Personally, I say that all attach rates are functionally meaningless, but if people keep bringing them up...
"the wii's attach rate is high because of 2 games, wii sports(sold with every console)"
That's assuming that the attach rate counts Wii Sports as a unique software.
Given that it's standard practice for pretty much, uh, all companies everywhere to disregard games bundled with systems when calculating these things, it's highly impro...
the best platform for FPS games is and always will be computers. Assuming "best" is measured in terms of better graphics, better controls, and better online capabilities.
That said, I think he has a point about the Wii from the control perspective, at least in relation to its competition in the console industry.
I was always partial to the joystiq version of that gif.

That there Madden game looks pretty popular.
1. Madden NFL 09
2. Madden NFL 09
3. Madden NFL 09
9. Madden NFL 09
I think I'll look into that.
\/ Uh, maybe because being in the top ten selling software entries period is a pretty nice accomplishment? \/
"i still don't understand how twilight princess got game of the year back then when it looked like a gamecube title?"
Maybe because it *was* a Gamecube title?
And in the opinion of the people who determined game of the year on whatever site you're talking about, a fun one at that?
"for this i don't know what to say... the Wii it's selling like hot cakes but that doesn't make it the best console just the one that it is most profitable."
And the one that is the most popular.
"Nerds like us notwithstanding, the average hardcore Wii owner MIGHT use the internet for game info every once in a while. Say they come across N4G? What are the chances that a game like No More Heroes is going to be on the front page?"
On N4G? Relatively slim. I don't think that's a really good example though, if only because -- assuming Joe Core doesn't notice the Hottest Games feature -- its top-listed articles are determined either by users themselves or the recen...
Do they not realize that stories like this *really* diminish their credibility as an institution?
"Hey, everyone, a kid -- who none of you have ever heard of and whose only real claim to fame is that he spent 9 months inside one of our anchors -- sold his 360 for a PS3!"
"Hey, everyone, remember that random kid we reported on who sold his 360 for a PS3? He wants his 360 back and is playing World of Warcraft!"
Slow news day, I ta...
It's always nice to hear that someone appreciates information. :)
Incidentally, for anyone who's actually interested, here's a business perspective on game-tie rates.

And up-to-date information on the most current rates (along with some interesting information nuggets in their own rights).

Um, wasn't this exact article already posted?
Edit: Yup!
