I'm not one to defend IGN because I think it's terrible, but in all fairness, I didn't even know what Direct2Drive was before they wrote that silly faux article. Mission accomplished, I guess. :/

"I'd be willing to bet that the Wii will have one maybe two solid AAA 3rd party exclusive games in its whole lifespan."

Given the dreck that's often offered as examples of solid AAA games, this is surely a good thing.

I appreciate the concern. Fortunately, I feel pretty sorry for you in general, so we'll just call it even.

I don't see what you're getting at. Jillian Michael's Fitness Ultimatum is a rousing success, and its first week sales as reported by VG Chartz weren't even one-third of MadWorld's.

"With the amount of hype and talk of these games coming to the Wii"

Um, what hype? The only hype most of these games have gotten has been on internet sites. History has proven time and again that gaming sites have always had a negligible effect on real-world sales. Otherwise, Clover wouldn't have gone belly-up, licensed games would never sell, and everyone on the planet would own two copies of Shadow of the Colossus.

And those are all instances where ...

"I beat the game not too long ago and lo and behold when you beat it there ARE credits"

Um, I beat the game again *two hours ago* and there were no credits. I'm sorry, but there aren't any in the Wii game. Period.

Are you certain about that? I seem to recall going directly from the results screen back to the title screen after beating Yami.

Hold on, I have a save before the final boss so I can check.

Let's see, results screen, congratulations screen, pr...

"Decredited... WTF?"

Seriously, the Wii version doesn't actually have any credit sequence to speak of; not of the original dev team and not even of whoever did the port. It just ends.

Well, considering it was a port where they de-credited the entirety of the original dev team, I don't imagine that it had to move that many units to sell 'well', in terms of profit.

Whether it sold enough to warrant a sequel is a different question entirely. One that is probably in the negative, unfortunately.

"Still, actual numbers would be helpful. For all we know the total could be equal or even less of US numbers."

Could be, although given the size of the the UK market, I think it's fairly improbable that the numbers would turn out like that. Unfortunately, Chart-track doesn't provide that information either way. It's times like this I wish that VG Chartz weren't completely useless.

"And by Wii chart, are you talking about a chart only tracking Wii ...

As much as I hate to say it, American sales are not the be-all, end all of the market.

The UK charts, for instance, tell a much happier story for the game. They don't actually provide information besides sales position, but they're still enlightening.

"Week 1= 10th (#3 Wii Chart)
Week 2= 9th (#3 Wii Chart)
Week 3= 16th (#3 Wii Chart)
Week 4= 24th (#5 Wii Chart)
Week 5= 20th (#4 Wii Chart)"

More than a price cut, I think Sony really needs to put "YOU PLAY ONLINE FOR FREE" on a giant sticker taking up most of the PS3 box.

I really do wish they'd release this one in the US. At the very least, it seems like it would be worth a rental.

Pretty interesting figures. Everything seems like it surpassed the expected sales and Street Fighter 4's getting the appreciation it deserves. Nice.

I'm not really certain why Sonic needs to be 'saved'. He's as popular now as he ever was; maybe even moreso.

Japan is nice and everything, but relative to the whole of the global market, it's kind of inconsequential.

If the announcers had actually like this, it would have been during the credit sequence here.

The Sega logo shows up twice in the last twenty seconds or so, and gets... no comment.

"And just for a quick comparison, here is the Ubisoft list:

Red Steel
Tenchu: Shadow Assassins
uhhh............Red Steel 2"

To be fair, Ubisoft also published No More Heroes.

Personally, I'm opposed to *any* companies receiving bailouts in general. Stuff happens, dinosaurs go extinct, whatever. If a company doesn't produce something that people want, why should consumers be forced to pay them anyway? I don't see why the game industry should be any different.

"Because outside of Sega's generous contributions this year, I'm not going to see a solid new IP out of the company I once put my complete trust in."

Putting one's complete trust in something as monolithic and impersonal as a company in general strikes me as a rather unproductive way of going about things -- it almost inevitably leads to heartbreak, angry posts on the internet, and innocent bunnies being boiled in pots.
