why do you think Adam Sessler gets exclusive interviews with console manufactures and game devs and publishers, because he is careful not to upset them, if he did, all his exclusive interviews and all expense paid press junkets to Japan and Europe would disappear. not to mention the early access to games and hardware and all those cool gifts and "care packages"
So, even if he wants to be "UNBIASED" He could lose all those perks and access. bad for "...
I agree totally, I never have seen so many people in my life so dead set on giving up their legal rights!
What game publishers and console makers are attempting is AGAINST THE LAW...there is no OPT OUT of the first sale doctrine!!!
If game publishers cannot exist and thrive under a Law that EVERY OTHER INDUSTRY FOLLOWS then there is a serious flaw in their industry.
The problem with Adam Sessler is that being what he is, he cannot go to far and criticize too greatly Microsoft, Sony or Nintendo, these companies are his bread and butter, piss them off and no more high profile interviews with executives, engineers and developers from these companies anymore. no more all expense paid press junkets to Japan or Europe.
No more "free gifts" and "care" packages or early access to games and hardware.
Knowing ...
I totally agree with you, all these things are a colossal mistake.
The other issue I have mainly how they are trying to handle used games and how it could affect more than just video games.
To do an end run around the first sale doctrine scares the heck out of me. if this is meant to stand, god knows what other industries will attempt to do the same.
dvd and bluray publishers could make deals with hardware manufactures to tag movies to a re...
So, you want to sit quietly, not have anyone's opinion be heard till it's all over? or, till it's too late?
foolish...better to let your opinion be known about these concerns sooner than later. It can give the higher ups in these companies pause and keep from avoiding the worst thing for a company, bad PR and poor sales.
sure, when the publishers start selling their games for 5.00 to 14.00 on sale like steam and tops 45.00 for a brand new game then you can compare steam to what MS and possibly Sony are trying to do.
I think that people SHOULD keep bitching about DRM and used games all the way up to E3, and beyond especially if they are going through with it. If you don't let your vitriol and disdain for these consumer unfriendly practices be heard, it's as good as telling MS and Sony that you are fine with them.
sitting mute till it's too late is a fools advice.
I was hoping to see the Snowman MoCap.
:P
As long as the distance themselves with ANYTHING to do with used games other than leaving things the way they have been for that last 20 odd years. no weird deals with EA or Activision..or any dev or publisher concerning used games.
In other words don't do an end run around the first sale doctrine.
That is the 1 thing that I would like to see.
"If they are so "Unhappy" why they dont speak about the damn thing for once, everytime the press brings it up their answer is " more details at a later date" F that. "
A later date means when everybody buys one and the first person go's to trade in the first game....
just a thought, what if the publisher requires you to be online to verify your game while you install and every time you play it?
Sony could allow that, with their statement about letting publishers do it if they want.
what kinda cool is if you really miss that console feel, you can hook up your PC to your big screen and run steam in big picture mode. with support for ps3 and xbox controllers if that is your thing.
"The first sale doctrine, codified at 17 U.S.C. § 109, provides that an individual who knowingly purchases a copy of a copyrighted work from the copyright holder receives the right to sell, display or otherwise dispose of that particular copy, notwithstanding the interests of the copyright owner. The right to distribute ends however, once the owner has sold that particular copy."
As much as I hope that Sony will leave the used game market alone, they haven't been very clear on what their policy is. saying that they are going to let the individual publishers what they want them to do is not a good thing. who do you think MS is in league with this used game scam? the game publishers.
This needs to be addressed quickly, we need the EFF and consumer rights groups on board to put pressure on these companies as well as everybody contacting their represe...
MurDocINC, as for steam and apple, last time I checked you can grab a game on sale OR for as little as 5.00. I don't think that it going to work for a 60.00 and up game. especially when even bad games will retain that 60.00 price tag much longer than they should.
To be honest, this is a dangerous precedent that the console and game publishing companies are making. It is very anti-consumer and go's against the very foundation of ownership rights. This is so dangerous, I would urge everyone to contact your congressman (in the US) or your elected officials and complain.
I don't know about anybody else but, all I see is a sea of greed drowning the consumer, what if Movie and music publishers start adopting this if it isn't cha...
BUT! you were at least given a CHOICE, you could have sold it to a 3rd party on your own...or even given it away to someone.
now, MS and possibly Sony (Until I hear a Clear statement from them about what they are going to do I don't trust them either) Have taken all your consumer rights away with this scam, they are doing an end run around ownership laws that we ALL benefit from. If this gets accepted what will stop movie and music companies from implementing the same dra...
your a pandering idiot, do you feel bad for ford because they don't get a cut of used car sales? or movie studios and publishers because you can lend, sell or give your bluray and dvd movies away?
I would be really surprised if either a class action lawsuit or congress doesn't get involved in this anti-consumer scam eventually.
That's Rise of the Triad, man! A part of gaming history!
I played hours and hours of this online against family and friends!
The H.U.N.T. is back...to kick ass and go full dog mode...woof!
your wrong, used games hurt the used game industry just like it hurts the movie, music and book industry, the difference is that game publishers don't want to follow that law. they want to be treated special and have their industry be free of the first sale doctrine. something every industry has had to accept since things started being sold. Developers and publishers of games shouldn't get a free pass because they don't like it.
And seeing that the gaming industry's an...
