we can split hairs all day, but, at the end of the day 240 million dollars is a ton of money, even if we take half on expenses that is still 120 million in pure profit, if your trying to tell me that after all that is said and done their profit is a few million then the gaming industry is either not a viable business or it is being run in a real slipshod and foolish fashion.
4 million copies of a 60 dollar game comes out to:
two hundred forty million dollars
that is a lot of scratch for one game, even if you spent a hundred million on development, manufacturing, advertising and retails cut you still made one hundred forty million dollars.
If a hundred forty million dollars in profit on just one game is failure then, there is something extremely wrong with the way publishers are running their business.
cliffy b. a legend...in his own mind.
Sure, speculation based on business history. To be honest, the fact that you consider MS genius without aknowledging their past history an behavior concerning bad business practices kind of diminishes the legs of your argument.
And, frankly your views are much more suspect to be hollow speculation than mine.
Well, this is my last bubble. So, I'll drop the mike on this discussion and bid you good day.
If a criminal decides not to shoot you in the face because he is being filmed, that doesn't automatically make him your friend.
you keep using the phrase "cats" are you from the 40's and wear Zoot suits?
Your statement about Xbone game prices being cheaper than the 60.00 average is mere SPECULATION. Just because you believe in this Peter Pan fantasy doesn't make it true.
If you ACTUALLY think that Ms, Sony or ANY publisher is going to drop prices on game software for their closed systems your living in a dream world. For example Activision's Bobby Kotick in a Sh...
your misguided in your thought processes, the xbox and ps3 are CLOSED systems. that means unless Sony and MS allow other digital download services onto their consoles they control every aspect of what you purchase from them. there is no competition within each consoles sphere. that means that digital downloads on consoles will never reach the discounts of steam or as soon as steam does. they will just stay expensive longer because you have no choice but to buy from them.
But...
that's the stupidest thing I have heard for quite a while. depriving people of ownership rights. I'll take this so called "old tech" over the consumer unfriendly "new tech" any day of the year. any tech that deprives you of your consumer rights is BAD TECH. only an idiot that doesn't care or understand the value of money would think a non-transferable digital copy that costs as much as a disc based copy with manual and case is a better option.
It's quite hard to take the guy seriously when he is tooling around in a Lambo (and that is just one of his cars) on his way to his million dollar home where his trophy wife waits.
This is all smoke and mirrors, the economy has been terrible to soft for a while and one of the few industries that has had record profits is the gaming industry. closings, (even though bad) of developers is more because of the economic climate than anything to do with used games sales, It has ...
Of course, the difference is that Sony actually understands the business of gaming and the gamer mindset better than Microsoft. MS on the other hand is use to dictating to customers what they are going to do and customers just accepting it. Being a monopoly usually skews the customer relationship in this manner. In this case MS was "hoisted by their own petard."
but, but, but....it's got more!?! more OS's running at the same time using more ram as well as the lost resources that the THREE OS'S running under the game use when you are playing.
:P
damn, I love that phrase, it completely explains what MS has done.
Bad Blood indeed, I consider MS the men with "dry hearts" to quote another Italian phrase. :)
It kills me, all these people bemoaning the fact that Ms capitulated to customer demand and dropped all this intrusive DRM and lowered the gate.
All these crazy people that think MS was trying to "move people into the future" with all this intrusive DRM are living in a fantasy land, the Idea that blocking what you do with what you bought for some VERY restrictive convenience of being able to "share" with 10 of your family members and maybe be able to sell...
Funny? being an employee of Microsoft and how they feel about competitors that he would mention TiVo at all seeing that it uses Linux as it's OS.
There have been stories of employees being chastised and threatened for owning an iPhone.
P.S.
Clear channel communication is a giant MS-like corp as well. no wonder he loves working for MS.
I find it quite interesting that they are trying to convince people that a system rife with consumer restrictions are good for them. It is almost like they think if they keep saying that people will magically change their minds and choose to believe the lie.
I can not tell is they are stupid? think we are stupid, or they are so arrogant that they feel that we will do what they tell us to do.
Microsoft SOP is to enter a market. kill all the competition, either through buying them out, FUD or selling for a lot less than everybody else. once they are the only player, they make back door deals with distribution to undermine any chances for competition. after they control distribution they start to forcing policies and raise prices.
This has worked many times for them. but, as of late they lack the patience and cunning that they use to have and are jumping to the last step, It...
Well, we have a new word in the international lexicon "Xboned"
Man, you've been Xboned!
Agreeing to or purchasing something without being able to get a clear answer of what rights you have concerning it's use.
With the Economy still pretty soft, I don't think that the market can sustain prices over 60.00.
You know, that MS executive offices in Redmond there are chairs flying across rooms and Ballmer is raging like a silver-back Gorilla that has just been branded.
Pancakegaki? Cookiegaki, I miss Pizzagaki the most!
