They likely just turned the gore off for the live stream, or at least toned it down. Pretty much every violent game anymore has the option to turn off blood.

How could you watch this without the commentary? That's where literally all the information is at. Concrete Genie is a game about a fishing village that has undergone some kind of environmental disaster. Your goal is to basically paint the town and destroy the darkness on many of the walls, with lights above the walls signifying completion of a small section. The game is organized into levels where you need to complete the zones, done by painting the walls. There are puzzles and the like ...

How is having an openly gay main character going "full SJW"? By your logic, inclusion of a gay character is pandering, but Nathan Drake being intimate with both Chloe and Elaina isn't any kind of pandering, right?

Welcome to the 21st century. Please leave your unjustifiable bigotry at the door.

I can respect that. More variety is always necessary. Where I worry in Microsoft's lack of new IPs and largely sticking to the same few game genres for over a decade, I also worry with Sony that they're providing plenty of new IPs, but with largely similar gameplay elements.

Gears Tactics will never be a megaton, but I hope for enough success to continue exploring the tactical strategy genre as a mainstay among Microsoft IPs.

@Vasto

Developers can only get crossplay if the relevant company who owns a needed network agrees. Sony and Microsoft have both shutdown crossplay requests when they were otherwise sitting pretty in sales over the other. It isn't like third parties just magically decided they wanted crossplay this gen, but had no interest last gen. Are we going to forget Sony - Valve connectivity with Portal 2 last gen, for example?

Sometimes I forget that the average...

@The 10th Rider

Microsoft is just using crossplay for PR. It's a smart move, but it hardly makes them for the gamers. If the Xbox One was even close to PS4 sales numbers, I highly doubt we would be hearing much about crossplay this gen. It's literally just a marketing maneuver. I get it. I don't disparage Microsoft for it. The motivations and goals are just incredibly transparent.

Halo Wars proved that, although taking their games and doing a genre flip to tactical strategy can work, they don't have the same widespread appeal as the mainline games by a pretty significant margin.

If Halo Wars and Halo Wars 2 were only moderately successful, you probably can't expect much better from Gears Tactics.

Why is that surprising? Nintendo is trying to establish partnerships to do anything to triumph over the failings of the Wii U. They even went so far as to sacrifice the use of their own network with Minecraft, giving Microsoft complete control over online accessibility instead. Microsoft is trying hard to one up Sony anyway they can, which is why they're pushing so hard for crossplay this generation while they shut down prospects repeatedly last gen.

Although it would b...

I originally tagged Switch in error. A moderator has since come through, seen my update, and removed the tag.

To iterate, so far RE2 is only confirmed for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

The Switch is over a year old, and has almost nothing of note releasing in its second year. The Switch seemed on track to fix the game droughts of the Wii U, but now it seems perilously close to replicating the experience. Nintendo didn't bring the announcements, third parties didn't announce much for the Switch, and it doesn't leave the system in much better of a place than the Wii U was release wise. I mean, you can list all the actually noteworthy releases set for 2018 and 2019...

Nah. They had a two venue set up. After opening for Last of Us 2 in a church set up like where the trailer starts, they had an intermission to transition into the primary venue for the rest of the showcase. People needed time to walk over and get seated. Sony showed everything they intended to when they set up their show floor; no more and no less.

I don't know if you've played both, but if you have, you could see why Paladins may be far less technically challenging to transition to the Switch. Paladins is a fine game; it just isn't exactly the peak of technological feats.

That's the thing though, E3 is no longer this unique place where all the major announcements happen. Paris Games Week, Gamescom, Tokyo Game Show, Playstation Experience. All of those are recognizable game conferences now where big reveals have happened over the course of this generation.

E3 is still held as most important by Microsoft, but Sony tends to really spread out their efforts across the Summer and Fall at this point.

Sony's at an in between time in their development cycle. Their major studios either just released a game (God of War, Detroit), are about to release a game (Spiderman, Days Gone), or are deep in development on a game (Ghost of T, Last of Us 2, Death Stranding). It was gonna be hard for them to put together a blockbuster show when they just don't have the studio availability right now to have brand new E3 ready projects in the pipeline.

This was a low-key event, and ...

They kind of blew their VR load with their pre-E3 announcements. Between pre-E3, the showcase, and the post show, they showed at least five new VR titles (either full or at least VR capable). That's pretty solid.

It isn't like VR games are magically a ton easier to make than any other game, and it's endlessly tricky to show VR in the showcases effectively since the VR effect is hard to sell without someone actually putting on a headset.

I'm still surprised they do a PC gaming show. PC gaming often feels so disconnected from console gaming, to the degree that it simply isn't expected for PC oriented announcements to be at E3.

Hoping for some good surprises that I'll have to watch after the Sony conference tonight. Curse this work thing.

Didn’t Phil Spencer say around this time last year that they wouldn’t announce games two or three years out because it was felt that creates false hype? Let’s just remember that PR spin a bit as the lie it was with this Halo Infinite announcement.

I have questions about a lot of things:

Is the story and questing organized more as a single player or multiplayer experience?

If I build an area, could another player just nuke it and destroy my work?

If I’m completing story quests in an area and another player nukes it, what happens? Do quests and thus progression become inaccessible for a certain “fallout” period?

Do quests and battles scale based on party size? Ca...

Another delightful satirical take on E3. Devolver is definitely a fun publisher, and that abuse of PR pandering at the beginning was hilariously reminiscent of Phil Spencer at the Microsoft conference earlier today.
