though I'm still not sure why Microsoft went with 1.2 instead of 1.3. It would've put them on equal standing with Sony, at least in terms of video output. Sure, it costs an extra three or four dollars per unit, but...the cost difference is so low that it should be even more reason to do so.

Every 360 console display I've seen at retail (with the exception of one CompUSA) has the Red Ring of Death, and it's a bit of a wakeup call for consumers. not only make Sony look better, it would end up hurting Microsoft's reputation even more. It's bad enough they didn't put in HDMI 1.3 into the Elite, but doing this would show just how weak they are.

of the PS3's cost, so there are a lot of components that can help reduce production losses. Originally the PS3 was around $830 for the 60GB version, and I'd imagine they've managed to get that down to $650 by now. Whether or not the 360 is being sold at a profit is still up in the air, but it would make sense. It uses fairly outdated technology/parts that are extremely cheap to manufacture/implement onto the motherboard.

if they support Blu-ray, as well as HD-DVD, so really this is just the inevitable finally happening. They'll go neutral at first, but expect to see HD-DVD support start to dwindle even more. Studio support means everything, and there are actually a LOT of HD-DVD titles from Universal that I would want to see on Blu-ray. It wouldn't require much work either since both formats use the same video codecs.
