I enjoyed MGS4 but think the cutscenes were in serious need of good hollywood editing. Plus there were more ways to tell the story through gameplay. As a big fan of the series I was pissed to play Raiden in MGS2 but in this game if I played Snake most of the time and also played the supporting cast that would have been really cool. That way the MGS fan gets their Snake fix while also playing other serious favorites and keeping them engaged.
I was wondering what he wasn't happy about as well. We'll probably never know but I hope that if he had more space it would have been used for gameplay. I really don't see what else could have been added by cutscenes. The cutscenes already told the Metal Gear story from the original MSX2 game.
When Raiden was first shown instead of making that all cutscene they should have let you play it with a cutscene that opened the gameplay sequence and one at the end. Little things l...
I don't know, some of it seem liked pretty constructive criticisms to me.
Well what I worry about is this give Hideo the ok to keep this up. He really needs to start moving to story telling through gameplay with cutscenes mixed throughout. A much better balance would make for a truly epic experience. My girlfriend kept joking with me during MGS4 asking if I was "Enjoying my movie". It took me a little under 17 hrs to finish the game and I played it like all the other Metal Gear games. Sneak in some parts, fight in others, don't "kill" the b...
Again how can some disagree with how long it took me to play the game. Did they watch me from start to finish? Some people on this site kill me.
I wish they would have used the codec more. It seems like it was just in this game for the sake of putting it in but their was really no use for it since talking to Rose was worthless. In some games Metal Gear games you could get info from up to six characters on how to handle a situation. Plus the secret codecs etc.
I agree the cutscenes are fine until some of the dialog or someone belching (are we eight year olds playing this?) ruins a serious moment.
I just don't understand all these 10's getting handed out like candy. I'm probably as big of a Metal Gear fan as they come but the game is not worth a 10. 9 out of the 10 at the most and here is why.
1) While the game is fun to play from act 3 on there really isn't much to play.
2) Part of the feeling that there is much to play is from Act 3 on it becomes cutscene city. Now don't get me wrong I like them but some serious editing was needed to cut the fat.
3) Th...
Because what gameplay there is is pretty good. It would been nice if there was more of it. Bascially Act 3 and 5 are one big cut scene.
No doubt, reading a lot of these comments shows they did not read the blog from start to finish.
Some of his reason were valid. I also guess you missed the end where he said it was a great game it's just these were the things that bothered him. It's like if you don't think MGS4 is the best ever you have to run from angry mob! I played the game, enjoyed it but find myself agreeing with a lot that was said here. I own all three systems to boot and could give a crap what system it was on....ok well not the Wii since the graphics would suck.
I beat the game a little under 17 hours on Solid Normal and certainly didn't "rush" through it. I took my time, continue a few times as well along the way and watched the cutscenes.
I'll take one 2.5D (what some call 2D games using 3D backgrounds and character models) 1080P Castlevania please on 360 or PS3. Just come on already!
I disagree, not everyone wants to play through a game to get a bunch of emblems. I like a game I can sit through and get most of the experience in one time through. While the MGS4 experience was fun because I'm a fan of the series, GTA 4 was more fun to me because I was in control for most of the game.
I'm worried about this game and the scores it's getting for a couple of reasons. While it's a fun game with a deep story I'm not sure I want developers to think it's ok to make games like this. While it works for Metal Gear it isn't ok for other games. My biggest problem is that from Act 3 on it seems like you watch more then you play. I think there could have been more done to balance the cutscenes and gameplay. (playing as the supporting cast would be nice) Someone posted earlier that peopl...
Yeah it was fun but also really easy on Solid Normal.
Horrible quality shots. Not even worth the look.
however the previous 9x and some 8x cards are already tearing up the current game lineup as it is. There might not be a whole lot of reason to upgrade until we get more games outside of Crysis that can use the extra power. Hopefully these games will be better coded then Crysis.
Nah the series had quite a following prior to COD4. It's just that COD4 had one hell of a single player mode that keep the user engaged while telling a story (Hideo I'm looking at you) with killer multiplayer that's easy to pickup and keeps people hooked. That sent it over the top into a mega hit despite being short on the single player side.
No you're not alone. I found myself enjoying the cutscenes more even though some were long winded. The gameplay wasn't bad and like you have experienced it seems pretty easy. I think as people look back in a few months they'll still say it was a hell of an experience but wish there was more player involvement through gameplay.
