There are some perplexing comments popping up in response to console sales data.

1) Your data is limited to North America, MS' strongest market.

2) Over 30% of PS4 hardware was sold to people that owned a Wii or Xbox, but not a PS3, last gen, while nearly half of PS4 owners didn't own a PS3.

3) PS3 outsold 360 for the last two NPDs and continues to be more popular worldwide.

4) You can't just go making argument...

Recognize reverse psychology when you see it.

"The xb1 is still ahead of the X360 and PS3 in sales during the same time span so there is nothing to worry about."

Is it? MS hasn't used that go to for at least a couple of NPDs now.

There's something — wrong — when you can't get through an NPD report without throwing an attention seeking tantrum in multiple comment sections.

If you want one bubble, put in a ticket asking for one or PM a mod.

That's like trying to compare the reaction to the Mayweather fight to the reaction to an amateur fight held in a bar's parking lot. Some people are so dedicated to their roles as fanboys that they fail to see the TR deal as an issue that pissed off Tomb Raider fans, not only on PS but PC and even Xbox. They can't see it because they are perpetually on a quest to shill for a brand while looking for any way to score points against the other team. I wonder how many of the people cryi...

"The only false equivalence is you considering yourself a gamer instead of realizing you're just a PlayStation fan."

Just a Playstation fan whose systems, since Playstation came into being, include Sega Saturn (chosen over the original PSX which I got later), Game Cube, Wii, Wii U, and 3DS XL. Oh, but I'm not a gamer right, just a PS gamer? No. What you meant to say is that because I have the nerve not to want an Xbox I must not be a gamer, a stupid talking ...

One can practically map out, through your reply, how you wouldn't let logic get in the way of the conclusion you wanted to draw.

You threw out a false equivalency. Visiblemarc broke down the flaws in your rationalization. Your immediate response was to shrug it off as "all irrelevant," before finding a way back to the conclusion that "both companies are doing the same thing."

"The same could be said about any game on any console."

No, it can't. There's a difference between legitimately working to create a compelling library to attract consumers to your system versus trying to hold hostage a popular IP because you know the fans of that game don't want your system otherwise.

Please, stop it with the false equivalencies and persecution complex. There's a deliberate effort, by some people, to feed arguments through the most simplistic filter they can find to produce conclusions like "Angry when one company gets exclusives. Cheering when the other gets them."

It's not about MS getting exclusives. I don't even remember there being a backlash against Dead Rising on XB1. People are angry that the TR franchise has been supported on...

And that reaction right there is why Phil decided to end this little charade.

4322d ago 8 agree1 disagreeView comment

This is probably Phil's biggest PR misstep since taking the helm. I don't know what he was thinking, believing even the idea that permanent Tomb Raider exclusivity would move the needle on Xbox sales, but yesterday's announcement clearly did nothing more than to get people talking about MS in the way they did prior to Phil taking over.

Now he's in a lose-lose situation where he has to pretty much flush the money they money-hatted, by acknowledging it's a t...

I think Phil is smart. Let's be real, this deal was only worth something to MS so long as no one confirmed it was timed. That was the perception they meant to put out there to attract gamers to Xbox. Now that he sees this deal has done more to damage the Xbox rep, as opposed to being a system seller, he is trying to rehabilitate Phil has confirmed it is a timed exclusive.

Yeah, I noticed that cross-gen bit that was buried in there. That's a bit disappointing for a game releasing holiday 2015.

Turn on Tomb Raider? Is that what happened yesterday? I could have sworn it was the other way around, despite PS gamers having a superior franchise in Uncharted yet supporting the Tomb Raider remake more than any other fanbase, both times it was released!

@Snookies

People hear what they want to hear on their way to a conclusion they were determined to arrive at.

I'm fairly confident it will go multiplat and that CD is just trying to double dip by taking advantage of MS' desperation to do a cash grab for a delay they probably wanted to do to avoid Uncharted, anyway.

Nevertheless, when you look at this and their comments following the initial sales of the last game, their lack of commitment and faith in their own product, while asking fans (Twice!) to have faith and put their money on that product is irritating. That's not...

@LOL_WUT

That's not competition. That's the type of move EA pulls with Madden and passes off as competition. That's denying the other company a product so that you don't have to make a superior product.

Let's not confuse creating exclusives with paying for excludeds.

"...MS needed to do this to help improve sales for the XB1"

I would argue that it is more important for Xbox to avoid doing things like that to improve sales of the XB1. They're making the same mistake they made with Titan Fall. Most of the people this kind of move will appeal to are the Xbox loyalists that already own the console. It's not going to move many units, just piss off a whole lot of people while reminding them why they don't have an XB1.

4322d ago 2 agree0 disagreeView comment

Yeah. I mean, it's not like they advertised the last game as a reboot of the franchise just last year, went back for a second dip by selling the game on PS4 this year, then mere months later discontinued the franchise for the fanbase most responsible for putting them in a position where they can even talk about a Tomb Raider sequel.

4322d ago 3 agree0 disagreeView comment

Yeah. Let's not even talk about that Sony parity clause which leverages Playstation's market share to strong-arm small developers into... Oh, wait.
