What the fanboy are you talking about? Is there an MS marketing checklist somewhere that mandates you meet certain daily goals, like "Accuse PS fans of hypocrisy"?

They need to leverage their own library to get 3rd parties to move their game to the subscription model. Maybe retain rentals for greedy pubs, but start up a cheap, basic subscription model for 1st party games. Once the 3rd party pubs see that people are opting for the subscription model enough 3rd party support may go to the subscription service where they can launch a Plus edition that allows access to 1st and 3rd party titles with one subscription.

"THAT'S why I called your comment BS, because it is. What you suggest they should have done is simply unfathomable."

Stop right there. Let's not go confusing what you are falsely claiming I suggested with what I said.

"You and I both know that there is no such thing as a quiet concession."

Again, stop. That's your position, not mine. I already provided you an example of such a case in N...

If you're going to declare something to be BS, the least you can do is take the time to make your case why that is, instead of just replying with a bunch of questions, the same way I made my case, whether you agreed with it or not. Regardless:

"Are you suggesting that a concession from Microsoft that Sony's hardware is graphically superior would have allowed us to avoid a situation where Microsoft is trying to appease detractors?"...

"... most X1 gamers... wouldn't have even cared about it being 900p"

I'll do you one better, I doubt most gamers care about "Resolution-gate," beyond using resolution and frame-rate as barometers to measure and distinguish performance among the next-gen systems.

This whole thing started with COD: Ghosts, no one's nomination for best looking next gen game. It was less about graphics than performance and maximizing consumers'...

"But apparently, the internet criticism certainly makes it seem like we gamers value arbitrary performance specs over the overall quality of the experience... "

I would argue that it's the (intentional?) failure, of certain staunch defenders among MS, the Xbox fanbase and the media, to recognize the substance of that criticism that has led us here.

It may seem hard to believe, now, but there were (not too long ago given the age of the consoles)...

It's one thing to say this gen isn't over. It's another to try to take a shot at Sony by saying they "can't sit idle and wait for third parties to do all the work this time," which flies in the face of what the reality has been.

"That's just one game, and hardly proves anything."

No, it's not. It's a cyclical situation Xbox is in because of multi-generational lack of proper 1st party support.

"Look at the PS3 last gen; terrible start, but ultimately sold more than the 360 due to its superior hardware and exclusives."

Does anyone else find it ironic that people continue to cite PS on its worse day beating Xbox on its best as a reason to believe in an Xbox comeback, now that it's being smoked out of the gate?

If one's very user name and profile pic are designed to troll is that not grounds to down vote, for trolling, every comment to which those things are attached?

"...it's going to take a catastrophe on Sony's part and a miracle on Microsoft's part for the outcome to be reversed."

That was pretty much the situation last gen, and PS3 still beat 360.

Let's look at what we do buy these machines to play, then.

Big retail exclusive releases so far:

PS4: KZ, Knack, Infamous, TLOU.

XBox: Forza, Ryse, Dead Rising, Titan Fall.

Big retail exclusive releases minus 3rd party:

PS4: KZ, Knack, Infamous, TLOU.

XBox: Forza.

Three quarters of the big retail exclusive franchises being used to sell Xbox, right now, could very well a...

Do I wish I had an owned IP first-party action adventure game? Absolutely. But I don't right now. (Tomb Raider) is one that fits well and we had such a good working relationship with them.

No, not evil. But he's looking less and less like the revolutionary, anti-Mattrick he was being hyped as. He knows what the problem is. He identified it in this interview when he says he wishes they had a game like Uncharted to roll out instead of buying a multiplat. But he still did it.

It's not like there's much disagreement here. His argument admits to what MS is being accused of by its critics. He just tries to justify it. T...

It should be an issue to you as an Xbox owner. Let's assume Phil really is trying to do things different and turn it around. What you say in your first paragraph is true. You can't just pop out IP's overnight. However, this deal is a game of diminishing returns, at the cost of the future, for immediate satisfaction.

Xbox didn't have to spend big to get GTA on 360. They spent half the development budget of GTA to get timed exclusive d...

He's a better politician than others they've put in front of the public. But when you look at the substance of what he's saying he's just as full of it as the rest.

"This whole thing that, like we just somehow found something that Sony fans love and said hey, if we just drop millions of dollars then they can't go play the game, that's not how it played out."

But that's exactly what they did! He's so full of it. He'...

Not to say that I'm completely fine with the DR3 deal, but are you really trying to draw a false equivalency between an eight year old franchise, just seeing its second console gen, that launched exclusively on 360 releasing a sequel exclusively on XB1 more than three years after the last iteration to an eighteen year old franchise, going into its fourth console gen, that debuted on multiple systems, that has made most of its money on PS releasing a sequel to a game they hyped as a reboot...

Here's the TL;DR of the article: We haven't invested enough in creating 1st party content so we have to money-hat 3rd parties.

"Do I wish I had an owned IP first-party action adventure game? Absolutely. But I don't right now."

"Totally. I'm a big fan of Uncharted and I wish we had an action adventure game of that ilk. We've started some, and we've looked at them. But we don't have one today of that quality. This is a...

@jackanderson1985

For what? I did, and I can say that most of it was excuse making about not wanting to invest in marketing a game appearing on other platforms. That rationale is easily defeated when you consider other AAA games like COD and Destiny, which conventional wisdom says will do more to move Xbox and PS systems, respectively, than this timed exclusive TR deal will do for XB1.
