I just looked at it on my Nvidia Shield handheld through the DC emu. I remember beating this along time ago. I got all verklempt seeing it again, was ahead of it's time.
No physical release is keeping me from backing it. I hate digital only and never buy those games. Digital means you don't own it as it can be taken down at any time. Also if you need to delete for space then want to re-play later you need to download the whole thing over again - no backups possib...
Even if Sony has a program where if you put in a PS3 disc the system sees it as a key and allows you to stream that for free it still isn't as good. Streaming games sucks. You need a good and always online connection (remember the meltdown over "always online", now it is ok?), the graphic fidelity is downgraded, and you get input lag. With this "BC" you are getting to download recompiled X360 games to the X1 and can be played OFFLINE with the same level of graphic f...
@Septic
Technically this ISN'T emulation. If it was all you would need to do is put in the 360 disc after the OS update that includes the emulator and all games would work. It is like downloading a SNES emulator all ROMs work, you don't need to re-download special ones.
Another thing is that the CPUs are radically different, X86 in X1 and PowerPC in the 360. Then you need a much higher clock speed to emulate a different CPU. When translating CPU instructi...
@Kayant
Have you seen the bullshots of Bloodborne? There was a downgrade there, the bullshots looked much sharper as the retail is blurry and has no AA, lower res textures etc.
Infamous SS also had some downgrades, Killzone SF was downgraded a bit, there are probably more I forgot.
Many times these demos are running on high end PC dev kits with everything turned on. Look at that mechanized beast, there are more polygons in that than any PS4 g...
Spoiler, PC wins. Why bother with comparisons with PC and console? You already know which will look better.
It depends. If the graphics are worse on xbox like they usually are then it may not be the one to get. If they go for parity and gimp all other versions and make all look the same then maybe it will due to the extras. We'll see.
I hope you don't need to bring that fleabag everywhere you go. It would be kind of annoying and break the mood to have that running around you always.
@TheOneWhoIsTornApart
This is a remake of the game, not a reboot or sequel or re-imagining. It will be the same game with the same story and the same mechanics - turn based. The graphics will be redone of course but that is it. You can't change something like the "combat" and still be FF7. It would be like putting out The Last Of Us remaster on PS4 but this time the combat is now a turn-based strategy game. If they kept everything else the same it still wou...
@kalkano
Turn based started on old 8-bit computers that didn't even do animation really and many times not even graphics. Bitmaps took memory. They had no sprite hardware, no joysticks, and many times not even color. Those were like old green screen terminals on main frames that only did ASCII characters and like the Apple 1. If you were lucky you got a screen full of ASCII characters that, if you used a lot of imagination, kind of looked like a dragon or something but ...
@Summons75
The BC thing wasn't true BC. With real BC you can put in any disc and play, even if offline. This is actually MS recompiling select games then letting you download them from the internet if you have a disc to verify you own it. It isn't real emulation. It is better than Sony's BC which is zero but still it is a bit of a hack.
Due to TOTALLY different CPU architectures (X86 vs PowerPC + cell)you WOULD need to have a complete PS3 chipset...
Too bad the BC thing wasn't true BC. With real BC you can put in any disc and play, even if offline. This is actually MS recompiling select games then letting you download them from the internet if you have a disc to verify you own it. It isn't real emulation as the X1 CPU is X86 at 1.75 GHz compared to the 360 Power PC at 3.2 GHz. It is better than Sony's BC which is zero but still it is a bit of a hack.
It is no big deal I don't understand the freakout. Now the new Tomb Raider never being released on PS4 at all IS a big deal. Xboners got the better deal if I had to chose. Tomb Raider forever or the chance to get ripped off with COD DLC a month sooner, Hmmm which is better?
Until we see the retail downgraded version. That is SOP this generation it seems, like the Witcher 3 and Watch dogs.
@dboyman
The X1 and the 360 are MUCH different hardware. The 360 is 3.2 GHz PowerPC and the X1 is a slower clocked 1.75 GHz X86 CPU. It is doubtful they are using emulation.
this "backwards compatibility" is a bit of marketing hype. It really isn't true BC. It is more so they can claim "we have BC" with an asterisk that only some games work and you need to go online to download them. Basically some games were recompiled to run on the...
PSnow is streaming and it isn't free. You get input lag and downgraded resolutions with streaming, with native you get the full picture quality and no lag (and you don't need to be always online). Big difference.
Now this "backwards compatibility" is a bit of marketing hype too. It really isn't true BC. Basically some games were recompiled to run on the X1 which is why you need to download the game when you put in the disc. The disc is just a key to t...
It would be if all games instantly worked. It seems that only selected ones will work, kind of how it was on the Xbox 360 with old Xbox games.
It still is better than nothing though.
@bmf7364
That is wrong, the 360 is not like a gaming PC. PCs are X86, the 360 uses a power PC CPU MUCH different CPU completely. The PS3 uses power PC too with cell cores. The 360 uses 3.2 GHz Power PC cores where as the X1 uses 1.75 GHz X86 cores. Id don't know how they are emulating a completely different faster CPU with a slower one. I would be interested to see how they are actually doing it.
@iKenny
It is true that the CPUs are very different. The 360 uses 3 Power PC cores running at 3.2 GHz while the X1 uses 8 X86 cores running at 1.75 GHz, SLOWER clock speed and different architecture completely. Same basic architecture for PS3, 3.2 GHz Power PC. It isn't a lame ass excuse, it was a true difference in hardware.
It is doubtful they are using emulation, it would be too slow. I am not sure how they are doing it. Does it need to be always o...
I hope it was and that there won't be any downgrades.
Shenmue II actually released for Xbox.
The first Shenmue was on Dreamcast. I just hope this will be as good as the first one (never played II on xbox). May be a tall order since times have changed.
