Features are already stripped out due to the weak hardware. Just compare any PS4 game to the PC, it loses, by a lot.
A newer PS4 would play the same games but just may have a higher frame rate or draw distance.
The current PS4 versions aren't downgraded, the PS4K is just upgraded. It is like some X1 games that only run at 900p, they aren't downgraded to 900p the PS4 just has a bit more capability to run at 1080p.

The reason we didn't have unfinished games (that is what they are as buggy is not tested long enough) is because they HAD to work before everyone had the internetz. Sure there were some bugs but almostnone were game breaking like we have now where game save can be wiped etc.

Remember, (at least on console) the game shipped on disc is the version you can own forever. Patches will not be online forever and the time will come when they are taken down leaving you with a buggy broken incomplete game.
Even then if you need to re install the game either because upgrading hardware (think PS4K), because you previously deleted for HDD space, or HDD failure you will need to re-download all of those gigs of patches. That will take hours of time and bandwit...
Unless there are no 900P games on PS4 or no games downgraded to run smoother then the PS4 doesn't have plenty of power.
You don't HAVE to upgrade anything. You don't want the PS4.5 keep the one you have. No one is forcing you to upgrade. So the 4.5 may have a little better LOD and smoother shadows here and there. It wouldn't be like the PC. On the PC you have endless permutations of RAM, GPU,CPU, buss speeds etc all from different manufacturers.
With Consoles all enhancements would be done from the company themselves. It is not like you can get the Nvidia PS4.5 or the AMD PS4.5 and decide how much RAM to install. These consoles use PC components. I doubt they would alienate millions of users for a few with the Elite version. All it would be is like on the PC if you upgraded the graphics card a bit. You may be able to run a little smoother and maybe have better draw distance but the game would be the same.
And no I don't think Sony would do trade ins. What are they going to do with all of those used abused units of which some may be busted? That would be a logistical nightmare...
The online is also a silly argument as there is an easy fix. When playing MP online just lock all specs to the same res and framerate as the unenhanced console. When in SP use the added power. Problem solved. All of the Q.Q for nothing.
