Yep the Last Of Us on PS3 was definitely proof of stagnation. If it wasn't it would have been 1080p and 60 FPS with better textures like it was on PS4...
Yeah you can upgrade the GPU on a PC without replacing everything but that GPU will cost more than a NEO if you get something decent.
The Neo won't make PS4 games run worse, they will run as good or bad as they normally would, the Neo will just run them a bit better.
There aren't "two versions" just one version with graphics settings tweaked upwards a bit for the NEO. There are APIs and libraries and stuff that take care of that.

I think a slim would be useless. Who cares if the case is a couple of millimeters thinner, do you walk around with it? It sits on a shelf, who cares.
Now if the Neo did play games better I would buy that, even if it was BIGGER.

I think much of the whining is from xbox fans that fear the PS4 getting even more powerful than the X1 than it is now. The PS4 is more powerful than the X1, and the Neo would crush it. (which is why there will probably be an Xbox One Point Five).

I think the better use of the added power would be obviously minimum 1080p, plus better LOD, better frame rate, better shadows, better antialiasing and maybe better or added ambient occlusion. You would notice those things MUCH more than 4K unless you sit real close (plus not everyone has 4K sets yet). More power is always needed. Your Doom example is meaningless. ANY game can be made in 1080p and 60 FPS if the visuals are downgraded enough. Just keep cutting out effects until you get there. That proves nothing other than Doom on PS4 will not look as good as it could have if it had more power. With more power it wouldn't be either 60 FPS, OR better visuals, it would be BOTH.
Devs aren't magicians. They can only do so much and hardware is the limiting factor. ...

No one is "screwing" anyone. You don't have to buy it. BTW the world doesn't revolve around you and your feelings. Maybe some of us rather play the same games but all in 1080p, smoother frame rates and less pop up.

I hope it is true. Cant wait! I have had my PS4 and use it a lot, it had it's time. I am now tired of some games in 900p, choppy frame rates and LOD and shadow pop up. I need more power, and I hope it is released before my current model goes tits up. BRING IT baby boy!
I would like to see day one patches, always online, micro transactions, and pay to win banished.
Instead of launching with all of the heavy hitters they should delay the game, fix the bugs, and do something no one does anymore, release a complete working game without the need for annoying day one patches.
I liked Dead Island (except for the bugs), I beat the whole thing solo as I did with the second one. I don't get the hate.
And a high five to all PS4 owners with jobs that would like the option for a PS4 with better performance and updated tech (by console standards). Sony needs to do it or will be crushed by the NX and the Xbox One Point Five. Do you think they should stagnate and have the weakest hardware of all of the companies?

Maybe because I don't like online DRM like Steam (ok GOG doesn't have DRM but also doesn't have all games).
Also playing with KB/M is not my thing either and all PCs don't have good controller support that still doesn't need a KB as well(too many key commands).
Consoles are weak but more convenient and ergonomic, and you can actually own the games forever if you buy physical.
That is because this late in the console cycle the xbone still has a weaker GPU.
You can optimize the xbone but then you can also optimize the PS4 putting it ahead again. The hardware advantage will show because that is still there.
Until the Xbox One.5 and PS4K, then who knows who will win the hardware war, it could be MS with all of their money for all we know.
'Cause resolution is a big GPU taxing thing, not so much CPU, and the GPU in the xbone is still weaker.
I wouldn't have expected much gain in graphics by using more CPU.
It is the secret sauce that is going to make the Xbone run in 4K. That and the magical stacked hidden second GPU.
...And then Sony can say a bunch of stuff about how the PS4 NEO is twice as powerful as the Xbox one.
This is why there is most likely an Xbox 1.5 coming, they are just a bit better about keeping a secret.
