Hmmm, never used Lovefilm. Is this a EU based service? I've tried the US Netflix and they have about 15,000 films, which seems like alot to me, but has the EU netflix got significantly less? Might be a licencing thing.

But I agree with you, unless Sony can merge Video and Music Unlimited, and create a user friendly GUI, it's not gonna have a chance. I rekon VUDU isn't too shabby, just a tad expensive.

Totally agree Limewax, it's just a very severe case of bad scripting.

I do agree on your first point, many story driven games seem to go for the 'sad' thing But ask yourself this, why is that? Is it a consumer driven fad? Do we see the same thing happening with books and film? Most entertainment mediums go through 'fads', and most times this is a reflection on society. The rise of horror in the 70s, for example, was a reflection on the Vietnam war. Are themes in games really that bad if they make the game a more meaningful experience?

Even if this was the intended meaning, it's not brilliant. No ending should require this level of interpretation and deciphering. I don't think an ending needs to be clear-cut and obvious, but a much better writer would have made the ending still satisfying to those who don't care about going through everything with a fine comb. Mulholland Dr, as eccentric and surreal as it was, still had an emotional and final closing to the film, but also maintained its ambiguity to all but th...

I don't think anyone is championing 'emotion' as being the holy grail of videogames. I think it is only one part of videogames, and if done successfully it can help make a game better.

With Journey, I never cried, but I certainly felt something. It was a reflective game that gave opportunity to the player to feel any way they wanted. You mention the emotion felt when doing certain things in a video game (Vanquish, MAG etc), well that's the same kinda emotion ...

Totally agree, but I think it also depends on the individual gamer. I personally prefer a game with a strong narrative and emotional core. I love Mario, but being a movie lover I prefer a game with characters I can connect with. Playing Mario, I get enjoyment out of accomplishments and the joy of winning, but with a good story game, I become much more invested and feel a need to overcome.

My main issues with emotion in games is that many developers employ cheap tactics to ev...

Hmm, wonder if it's going to be subscription based like Netflix or PPV like Vudu.

The article speculates that it is Video Unlimited, and if that's the case it's going to be a subscription model, which means its got a hellava lot of work ahead of it. Netflix has a massive library, and if Sony wants to compete its going to have to get so many studios on board so they can get enough content to compete. It's also going to have to expand beyond the PS3 and Bravia ...

I personally don't mind paid DLC as long as it isn't:

*On the Disk
*Pertinent to the plot of the game
*Unlocks content
*Gives you something you should have for free (ie. raised level cap)

I don't have a problem with Online Passes as long as all the games have a trial period (so that friends and renters can still give online a go). I think studios should be able to make money off their IP's, but I don't think it shou...

Well, more specifically, ephebophilia is the attraction to mid to late adolescents (15-19). So, it's not referring to just any younger person, but rather someone who fits into that age bracket. So a fifty year old man who is attracted to a much younger 26 year old, is not a ephebophilliac.

I think the game is "possibly" attracting the ephebophillia crowd as Juliet is a hyper sexualised character which is described as a high-school cheerleader, which means she f...

These are the ones i'm looking forward to:

*Assassin's Creed 3 (Thank goodness they're moving on with the series, and I'm genuinely excited for the prospects this new locale/time/character bring to the series)

*Grand Theft Auto V (Not a huge fan of IV, but I think they have learn't from their mistakes, and besides, Rockstar do manage to tell good stories)

*Far Cry 3 (Only played the 2nd one, and don't have much to go o...

I think Naughty Dog have earned it. Just like I think Budgie and Ken Levine have earned it. The hype is there because of the past efforts of the game company and the reputation they have amongst gaming fans and the media whole.

It's the same excitement people have when Martin Scorsese or Wes Anderson are making a movie. And even if the film they make ends up being bad, the hype was still justified because of their pedigree.

People will get excited abou...

I think its a reasonable assumption...just look at the marketing, and inspirations of the game. But like I said, it still is an assumption.

I had been looking forward to I Am Alive when the first trailer came out. It looked bold and exciting. Now it looks incredibly mediocre due to the budget cuts. It's a shame really, looked like it could have been a real good new IP.

Call me pessimistic, but after all the negativity surrounding Mass Effect 3 and it's ending, I don't think anything could really help fix the ending in many of the fans eyes. Besides, once you have played the ending, that is going to be ingrained in your memory, and anything designed to improve it or replace it will only feel like a 'patch'. I personally couldn't care less if they 'fixed' the ending, but I think for many, the damage has already been done.

Movies and books are different. Slightly changed (or in rare cases, completely re-filmed) endings are brought about by the comments made by 'focus groups', or film execs prior to wide-release. In many cases alternate endings were also filmed (as the film proper was being filmed) and released with the DVD, but I have never heard of a film having it's ending changed once released theatrically.

This Mass effect case is different as a change is being demanded after ...

So you come from spamming TheSixthAxis.com with your comments, to doing it here? I don't completely disagree with your sentiments on TSA (where they are much more coherent), but seriously man, learn to enjoy life a bit more. Do you really think plasting that kinda shit on here is going to change anything? Is it going to help your cause? Why don't you find a more useful avenue to a solution?

Like I said, I don't completely disagree with you, but I haven't had t...

Man I dunno, I rented this out tonight and I was thoroughly enjoying it. Yes, it may not be the most polished game out there, but its got some good humor (if not too many phallic jokes)and some interesting concepts. The whole darkness thing has presented some good action scenarios. I think C is a bit harsh, I would have placed it in the B's.

I wouldn't say it was my own personal game of the year...but I REALLY enjoyed it and found it rather unique and gloriously strange. Would have been nice with a little extra polish, but it is nice to play a game that is a little removed from the norm.
