I just find it incredibly strange that EA didn't even offer a mention of it at their conference.
For a game that has been in hiatus for several years, you would think that EA would want to really publicise it's return. It's up against a franchise that is both critically and commercially successful, so EA would have been wise to use every opportunity to put it out there in the public sphere.
Who knows, it may pop up in another conference.
I, along with most others, were pretty afraid that Dead Space 2 was going to be way more action orientated at the expense of scares. Thankfully, I was wrong and DS2 was still pretty terrifying.
I got the same feeling with this game, and I hope that just like with DS2 I will be proven wrong. I absolutely love these games, and I don't want it to veer to far away from it's core. These devs seem smart enough to know that it's the horror element that sets this apart ...

Show started well with Halo and Splinter Cell (both looked awesome), but this fitness and espn stuff doesnt interest me. The smartglass thing seems like their attempt at doing what Nintendo and Sony are doing.
I thin THQ has a good business stragetgy with the UFC brand in the fact that they release it only every couple of years. The last UFC game was such a step up from the last due to this fact.
I love wrestling games, but I haven't brought one since SmackdowVsRaw 2006. And I honestly feel novelty has greatly declined.
Totally! I watched a few months ago, and those movies are pretty bloody crude, but still funny as hell.

I would love to see inFamous 3, thoroughly enjoyed part 2, and liked part 1. I actually really liked the changes they made to the game from 1 to 2, and hopefully they can improve upon those changes further.
I'm in no rush for another PS3 Killzone, but would enjoy a Vita version. If a Vita version comes to fruition, looks like the Vita may have a rather good lineup leading to the end of the year and beyond.

Yes, they don't own the rights to the new game (yet), but they do have a rather strong business relationship with Epic. To think MS hasn't got a massive say in how this IP is marketed is simply naive.

I actually totally agree with you both that a new 'flagship' IP wouldn't be beneficial to MS from a business standpoint.
My comment was purely from the consumerists point of view. As a fan, I hope that MS putting their money into Gears isn't at the expense of other potential IP's that I am now missing out on. Even smaller, non flagship titles. I guess I just hope what Chunky said turns out to be correct and...
There is a difference between commenting on a topic that is new to you, and presenting an unsubstantiated position.
The franchise is obviously unexplored to him/her, and that is fine, feel free to comment. But trying to make a statement such as "sounds like another franchise that didn't age well", when you haven't even played the game to know that, is what is referred to as an unsubstantiated statement.
If someone said the franchise was crap...

Dude, all this stuff is strategically planned. MS knew exactly when Game Informer would release their cover. Massive corporations don't leave something like this to chance. All those "leaks", yeah, not really leaks.
But yeah, I think they should of held onto the announcement till their conference rather than announcing it this way.

I wonder if it would still sell well though? It's been 16 years since KI2, and the relevancy has possibly gone. It might just not be viable for a company to make one. Although they could do HD remakes and gauge the reaction those get first? I dunno, one can dream right?
I dunno, it seems like it should have been something released when the actual game was released. However, with only one expansion released so far, it's not as though it is hitting too late. I also think the price is reasonable when it includes all the expansions, minus Karkand, which many PS3 users already got free.

That is a great frikkin' game. Probably the best 'pure' horror game out there.
