They really don't. Take a look at the PSP catalogue for the history likely predicting the future. Sony has always had the teen/young adult market focus. I will agree that 3DS has started to get more "hardcore" (in terms of adultness) games, but they certainly won't dominate the system like Vita, IMO.
And that's ok. That just makes the Vita not ok for me. It will make it great for many gamers and Paladin is correct in many people will want both.
Retailers are beginning to offer free memory cards with purchase of the system and that might make more people bite. The incredibly costly memory cards are definitely a barrier to purchase.
I'm an adult and the Vita doesn't interest me at all. I have a high stress job and the blood, guts, violence, and general adolescent-ness that dominates Sony platforms (and likely the Vita) does not appeal to me. I need a little sun-shiney Mario in my life.
And I don't know when I would console game. Unless I could take a TV with me in the bathroom at work or on my morning commute. So, yes, you aren't the demographic. ;)
No kidding, Ridge Racer over GR: Shadow Wars? Did they play GR:SW?
Read this in the magazine and really enjoyed it. Financial analysts always conveniently ignore facts that don't support their arguments. They are incredibly dishonest.
I will not be requesting my replacement jacket. Too funny to ruin it.
And the article is correct in that it is a fine line. Different gamers have different skill levels, but there is nothing smart about a "wander around" plan.
I think that Zelda OOT 3D nailed it in that there is a "tip idol" that you can CHOOSE to go to, if you like, and see a clip that will get you 75% of the way to solving a puzzle. It doesn't do it for you. And you don't have to do it. Mario 3D Land has a similar feature that if you die so man...
"Once broadband infrastructures worldwide catch up" is easier said than done. All tech companies care about is your money, not what we're actually capable of doing.
4G, for example, is the biggest scam in the US. Engineers have a very specific definition for what qualifies as "fourth generation" technology. US Cell phone companies lobbied the hell out of Congress (because ya know if you have money you can get any law passed that you want) to re-defin...
I've actually found that a lot of recent games that I have played have pretty steep learning curves.
The one thing that really bugs me is the "wander around aimlessly with no clues until you stumble upon where to go next" crap. I know some people like that, but sometimes I just want to know what I need to accomplish to advance the story. It seems like it used to be REALLY bad, but is making a resurgence.
The entire argument is predicated on the assumption that 3rd party and unique third and first party titles don't exist. They are conveniently ignored, for the purposes of this article. Mario and Halo and COD and MW may sell a lot of copies, but some of the best games of the last few years have been smaller titles. I can't speak to the main consoles, as I'm a hnadheld gamer, but when the writer says "crappy DS game", it reveals how woefully unfamiliar he/she is with th...
Yu-Gi Oh video games have usually been crap.
I think there are even stronger arguments than the ones levelled in the article.
1) The cost isn't really cheaper on a phone on account of the data plan. Consumers have essentially been "tricked" into thinking their smart phones and apps are cheap. Its pretty brilliant from a marketing standpoint...and also incredibly dickish.
2) The "superficiality" isn't due to length, but control scheme in more cases. Limitations in complex...
She's turned me into her bitch. ;) And I was very skeptical. The experience has really improved over the last six months.
There is about a hair's difference. But Prof. Layton is definitely the best.
The remake of Number 1 was stellar. It was really difficult for me to let go of Barry's stupid dialogue though. It defined a lot of funny moments of my college years.
"WHAT.....ISSSSSSS...IT? "
I don't know Barry, what the hell DOES it look like to you? Ya Magnum-toting moron. ;P
Do you think it cheapens the fact that the original controls for survival horror (Resi 1/2/3) were "purposely" clunky to heighten the tension? In other words, is it making the game TOO easy, so as to remove the survival challenge? I heard that the second half of Revelations is more action-oriented anyway.
How many resident evil games are there? It seems weird to have a top ten when there aren't that many more than that total, and many of them are non-triple A spin-offs. I wouldn't count the same game on different systems or special editions of numbered games.
I know that "lists" are all the rage on the interwebs right now, but this is kinda ridiculous. Its like counting down the top 20 Bond films. There are 22 total. If there aren't enough of a thing...
I recently read that two environment search puzzle games have been confirmed for March of this year. Blanking on the names.
So, you don't really need lives in Super Mario 3D Land. They are plentiful. Always attainable and you never have to worry about them. I SUCK at platformers and it gives me a fuzzy feeling that I have over a hundred lives at all times in 3D Land.
So, from a practical standpoint I agree with the author. From an emotional standpoint, perhaps the function of lives in 3D Land is simply to make you feel good about collecting something. Because since I'm so bad at platf...
