"Netflix chose to back Blu-Ray, which Sony is the biggest proponent of. Then they turn and strike a deal with MS, who champion Digital Distribution. "

They only chose to back Blu-ray after the end of the war. Before that they had both formats. Blockbuster, on the other hand, jumped to Blu-ray early.

Anyway, I'm not real happy about this, especially if it is exclusive. I know Sony has studios and wants to do their own store, but I can't see it doing anything...

"6.7 - Looks like I made an impact.
Shall I post Best Buy or Circuit City? they make it even worse. My PS3 was expensive boys, much more so than my 360 and my Wii cost more than the PS3. The PS3 is the expensive one and some of you are floating in the river of denile. "

So what you're saying is that, if you're an idiot and don't price check, you can make a DS more expensive than Core Quad Laptop from Dell?

Wow, thanks for the insight.

I still really don't get the wifi thing. It's a really cheap thing to add to the console. I know some don't use it, and for online play you want the fastest connection possible, but still... the prices on it and on their hd are just ridiculous. The wifi thing was an absolute stopper for me.

After the christmas season... yeah, that'd be a great bit of info to leave floating around. So people can wait and not buy a ps3 for the holiday.

I doubt it. I think they'll hit this hard before thanksgiving.

Given the target demographic, I doubt they're going to want "Watching ________ movie right now" listed on their friends list in every case.

Might be a little embarassing when Back Door Enthusiasts 12 shows up.

See, there it is.

"Charging us for backwards compatibility? That would be a complete joke.

In america, there has always been the choice to have a BC console but in Europe we have barely had the choice. Yes, if you were quick last year and had the cash to spend you could have got a 60gb which had the partial BC (software)."

So you bought one without it, knowing that it lacked that feature. You decided that the console was worth the money wit...

"Charging the 40GB owners for PS2 backwards compatibility access. When I bought mine I could only spend so much so I chose a 40GB. Now I want the backwards compatibility and have to keep a ps2 crowding my shelves."

I had a terrible time finding an 80gb. The price plus that made me opt for the 40gb.

Yeah, I don't think it's bad to defray the cost of development. But there'd be a ton of complaints... lots of flame wars as well. I'd ignore it all and put down...

You're right, for super popular games this isn't a great deal, unless you haven't got a ps2 or bc version of the ps3. For the more obscure stuff like ICO, though, it could be really fabulous...

"i don't think it'll happen. for it to happen, all PS3 models must play ps2 games and 40 gig models can't play them at all. Firmware update for BC won't work so I call BS on this."

There are a few possibilities.

1. These could be only available to ps3 models with compatibility. People who didn't buy compatible consoles (like me) would not be able to play, but we knew that when we got it, so we shouldn't complain too much.

2. Sony could release ...

If you look at the scan, they say no such thing. We don't know what it'll be. I'm not sure I buy KH3, but Mother 3 is j/k'd as well. This is the actual text in the scan:

"We'll kick off the next 20 years of Nintendo Power with more big reveals, including a top-secret cover story fit for a king. It's got a lot of heart. Just kidding. It's Mother 3. Just kidding. Please look forward to it."

I'd love to see this come out. There are a lot of games I'm interested in, but most seem to be right on the horizon... frustrating, but I've got a couple to keep me occupied for the moment.

"the MOST risky console endeavor this generation."

It certainly was at launch. Most every gaming journalist thought the Wii would be a massive failure. It's only now that, in hindsight, anyone says that it was some sort of safe move. Only slightly less risky was Sony's $600 ps3 price tag. But console makers know high-end graphics will sell (provided that core gamers can afford them), nothing risky about it.

This gen with online patching as a possibility has made things significantly worse though. There are definitely showstopper bugs that go out with the intention of meeting a release date and then sending out a patch in a couple of weeks. DLC and Online Play have done sort of the same thing. Instead of benefiting the customer with 25 hour games being expanded to 40 hours and Online play, it's become acceptable to release a 10-15 hour game and then add all that to get it up to 25 hours. And then...

i think it can be a problem, just like a 40gb ps3 is a problem. I just got mine, installed 6 psn games, a couple of demos, some trailers and I'm already down 15gb. I hate to think what it'll be once I get two or three installs. But at least there's an option with the ps3.

However, I do think that the vast majority of the wii's market share won't have a space problem. I've had mine a year and have no problem. If I did I'd throw a few games that I don't play as much on a SD card a...

Or any of the Nintendo systems. Or the other systems before the Saturn...

Not that it's a bad thing... though it can definitely be if you lose the gen. But it hasn't been standard for consoles. People like to say that, and I'm sure it's comforting to shareholders... but it's not accurate. http://www.actsofgord.com/P...

"Cicinho has a point

the disagrees mean nothing"

Absolutely.

Three types of idiots in the disagree realm (in descending order of idiocy):

1. Those who get too upset about the disagrees
2. Those who post disagrees without posting an argument.
3. Those who disagree with something that can't be disagreed with, e.g. "I ate a banana this morning" (6 disagrees)

Seriously, what's the point of clicking di...

"Someone could bring Opera to the PS3, or an emailer (waiting for that), and a calendar, etc. Endless possibilities. "

I've been waiting for that too. I hope, especially with the email client, that it integrates. Something like webkit would be cool, because it's fast and has a lot of widget possibilities. A calendar as well, because it's only going to be useful if the alerts come up anywhere (in game/movie could be inobtrusive).

It does. I don't think that's a bad thing, especially for a lot of us that want older games like ChronoTrigger.

However, the breakdown is artificial, as anyone who looks at the chart for more than two seconds could see.

2007
50 titles over - 12months = 4.17 games per month
Keep in mind that May - 7 PS3 titles, 10 ps1

take May's 17 down to the average of 4 and it becomes 3.08 per month that most people were seeing when they logged into PSN. <...

Seems like that's what people are saying overall. Does anyone disagree?

If the 360's still supported, would you still look favorably on the Xbox brand? Not that you'd necessarily buy a 720, just that you'd be ok with the process.

If not, then why?

"Saying Nintendo is kicking MS or Sony's ass is like saying Miley Cyrus is kicking Metallica's ass. It's a ridiculous comparison. "

Well, I can see what you're trying to say, but it's not quite as far removed as some would like.

It's more like Metallica plays to their audience and has a good fanbase. Let's say (not saying this is true) Megadeth has a very similar fanbase but one that has been declining in recent years, Then Megadeth releases an album that i...
