"I kinda just hope the ps3 gets a price drop lol, so it can be more competitive. I like these wars, we get all kinds of cool stuff to play no matter who you are. This can be considered a golden age of games, because there are so many choices."
Probably won't happen. The yen's too strong, so, while Japan could get a price cut, we've already got ours via a flagging currency.
"BrotherNick, with that logic you are saying EVERYBODY wants a system like the Wii.
Sub-HD with tacked on motion controls.
I'm sorry, but that's a load of bull. "
It's MANY MORE people want a system like the Wii.
And Sony/MS need to wake up to the that fact or their shareholders will soon be looking to have all their executives' heads on platters.
When 18% of the people with HDtv's can't recognize HD content and 50% have no idea wh...
All those sound like good reasons, except when you actually think about why most businesses make any statements outside of adverts, i.e. to address their shareholders.
The shareholders could care less about HD, what games it runs, online service, hardware capabilities, this gen or any of that other hyperbole. The care about why families are spending $250 on a Wii (and more on a ton on peripherals) instead of $200 for a 360 or $400 for a ps3.
Sony and MS can talk all...
You know what would really let them compete?
Give us both. Let the consumer decide which service they'd like to use with their console.
Better yet, open up the API for dashboard apps like this and turn the ps3 into something far more versatile than it currently dreams of being... (would allow non-US services to develop services)
I hate Blockbuster with a passion. Their CEO's an idiot who only blatantly states that he can't understand anyone who watches...
I'll repost this from further up in the thread:
checking it against this currency value (by month calc): http://www.gocurrency.com/v...
We see that in Nov. 2006, $250 equaled 29330 yen, and a $40 profit would have been 4692 yen. In Nov. 2008, $250 equals 24202 yen, a loss of 5128 yen ($44), more than the $40 profit of 2006.
So yeah... inflation would account for a lot. Sony and Nintendo pro...
Nintendo's doing considerably more production. More factories being retooled to meet demand = higher initial cost. But it'll go down quicker and mean higher profits in the long run.
Also the Yen has remained relatively stable compared to most every other major currency. So, checking it against this currency value (by month calc):
Of course they didn't lose money, they never do.
Sorry that the sarcasm came off so poorly. It's ju...
Yeah, well... obviously since they sold the GC hardware at a loss all last gen...
Everything else seems to be much better. I listened to a podcast this weekend with a lot of developers and they're saying it's dramatically better.
Though, if you're a gamer there's not a lot of change in that area.
This is a massive code cleanup. I'd be tempted.
Agree... very painful. If he wasn't completely confident on how to do some of the things, at least have notes handy on how to tweak the settings.
It's not as hard as he's making it look.
Yep. This is why books never sell.
Damn Libraries. :(
Videotape and DVD rentals killed the Movie industries... can't believe they're letting Blockbuster and Netflix have Blu-rays.
I did a quick calculation just cause I wondered myself. As it stood a few minutes ago (10:10 am Central time, 10/30/08)
46 @10 (460)
9.9
9.8
6 @9.7 (58.2)
2 @ 9.6 (19.2)
9 @9.5 (85)
3 @9.4 (28.2)
3 @ 9.2 (27.6)
1 @ 9.1
11 @ 9 (99)
= 806 total points / 83 reviews = 9.71
So it looks like the site's calculations are accurate.
I agree, Sega's on a roll lately.
Valkyria Chronicles should be added to the list (even though it's not a Wii game).
The site linked is the New York Times, not USA Today
Nice, enthusiastic review though...
Except the servers were up most of the night last night. I played and have online records on the single player levels.
I don't know if it'll be an issue later, but it was definitely annoying last night. Starting and ending levels in the single player mode would lag horribly waiting for the online connection. I can see why it would need that at the end for scores, but I don't know why it needs to connect otherwise.
I'm sure it'll be resolved. The servers may be down ...
I got my Qore invite on the 16th (10 days ago)...
"The think that had me tripping was when one of the screens was loading it said you can get a STD from having unprotected sex."
Nice to know that they're introducing elements from games like Leisure Suit Larry 1 (1987).
;)
Gonna' have to log a lot of hours to even get a taste.
For me it was fun at first, but then as I got ideas it sucked me completely in. I wish I had more time to build... gonna have the shakes for ten days...
Yeah... 5 is pretty slim odds.
Still, a lot of people at the site seemed stumped by the third question.
For me, I just searched for Twisted Metal clone and, a google image search later, had the answer.
"If an ideal concept of gaming for you is what software is on the Wii, and that nobody want's games that are innovative (beyond a motion control gimmick) and gorgeous (fully utilising HD capabilities), you are living under a very large and blocky rock."
This is what usually happens. We're talking about different things.
I'm talking about Sony and MS completely destroying their own stability by ignoring what a competitor has done right, and you're talking a...
