Why don't you fire up MyStylist and find yourself something pretty to wear.
J/K... It does seem like that sometimes, but that's just because Sony marketing doesn't believe women outside Japan would buy one. In Japan they're very definitely competing for the female market.
Certainly budget has a lot to do with it, as no one's going to buy what they can't afford, but without software no one will even wish they had the money.
Software trumps everything if the price is reachable. The 360 has basically none at the moment.
Oh, I definitely expect to.
I just think they're far behind... even far behind the ps3 which is not exactly glowing in the family arena at the mo.
"the issue I have is that this opens the door for sony to eventually charge for HOME or for ONLINE play. then what will you all say then."
So if they hadn't done this, there'd be no way they could change that in the future?
Sony's going to do what they need to do to turn a profit. People are acting like they're Santa Claus or something and that this is an evil cookie that will change them to a Grinch... Corporations are corporations. They'll profit and the...
"How about before anyone "cautiously analyzes" anything we actually wait for the release and not just speculate, it's not like we have to wait long."
And lose ad hits? Come on! Quit thinking, be a sheep and just click. I'm sure they'd like to buy a Benz this week.
It doesn't make anyone an idiot when they have gaps in knowledge that doesn't relate to their main interests/occupations. In fact, that's necessary in an age when every field is becoming increasingly specific.
This is more about how incompetent the bluray marketing campaign is.... A friend of my uncle's raved to him about this blu-ray tv they saw while shopping. That's a sad testament to the BR alliance's utter failure in public awareness.
At the moment it does look hard for the 360. But the good news is that the ps3 is not far ahead... Singstar and DDR are huge and I think LBP will help, but there's not a huge amount of family ps3 content. Bluray will push family adoption somewhat, though financial recession puts a damper on that approach. So, I guess MS might make some progress, but they haven't shown anything appreciable up to this point.
I know, some would say Viva Pinata... and it's a fab ip. One of the few o...
My god, can you read?
Right at the top of my post it talks about Disney movie sales. Not rentals, sales. Itunes has sold movies a lot longer than they've had rentals. Rentals just started this spring, so where do you think those numbers came from? 6 months? If so, then br is really hurting. In addition, right at the top disney says that they make as much on a itunes movie sale as on a full price dvd.
& 2 hours a day for eight days a month would max out the $30 plan's 5gb.
The core gamer would definitely suffer under this.
"In canada most isp's have now enforced download caps. This is why I believe digital distribution will not work."
Look at Asia in particular. Their cellphone internet speeds are on par with North America's fastest speeds. They've invested back what they earned because they understand that their countries' futures depend on it. There's a lot more riding on this than DD.
And, digital distribution may not work for us in North America, but the rest of the worl...
The average user doesn't have a $55 plan either.
They have the $30, 5gb plan. Make no mistake, this'll dramatically effect anyone who's not a "email and ebay" user.
"Well so much for digital distribution."
So much for Time Warner.
Seriously, people need to fight back on this. If you don't use this sort of bandwidth now, you will eventually. It limits progress all in the name of obscene profits.
The real issue is the 5gb cap for $30. I can't even imagine running below 5 gb. That's so easy to break it's pitiful. You could do that with a 4 or 5 game demos on PSN or Live.
This is ridiculous. My web hosting is $7 per month for 350gb of storage and 3500gb of traffic. Sure, it's shared but still...
All this is just because the telecoms have raked in profits for years and haven't invested anything back into their networks to support modern usage. In addition, they ...
I just wish they'd integrate email functionality into XMB. I'd really love to be able to send a pic/video taken on the pseye straight from the pictures/videos section. It's a pain to go to the browser and sign-in and add attachment, etc.
We're not talking about HD. We're talking about adoption of blu-ray, and DVD/DD stand in the way of that adoption. DD in particular is new tech that is in direct competition. It doesn't matter the resolution. All that matters is where consumer's dollars go.
If you think I'm an hddvd fanboy, then you're clueless. I wanted neither to win. Competition is my candidate.
Like anything else, it depends on the value offered. It also depends on the amount of ads.
Add in the right stuff and a monthly fee would be completely worth it. Basic walkaround, decorate your room and look at ads/chat? No way.
"Aside from that I think they're talking about having a fully functional product that meets the user's expectations but is still "technically" in beta."
Exactly, there's no indication whatsoever of invites being involved. Just a product labeled beta because it may have some minor glitches.
Just like gmail has never been a fully functional product. Or Live Mail or Yahoo Mail... right.
This is just something companies do these days to explain that, in a dynamic product, there might be bugs. You know, like most "Next Gen" games. Those aren't labeled betas but they're as buggy as hell.
Exactly.
from Neowin.net, May, 2007: "Disney movies on iTunes have passed the 2 million mark while TV shows have topped the 23 million mark. Although the pricing of a movie on the iTunes store is lower than that of a physical DVD, Disney is making about the same amount of money on each movie it sells there. "There are cost of goods that are factored out of the iTunes sale, which allows them to sell at a lower price. That's their decision and it allows us to take revenue...
He's not alone.
A lot of the hardcore are frightened (and slightly confused) as well.
