If that's the case, then I won't have a problem with this idea. The Xbox One is 3 years old, and I bought mine a few months ago. If Xbox One games were poorly optimized because developers focused on the Scorpio, that'd be a giant fuck you to those of us who bought the original expecting a typical console cycle and the improved performance optmization on consoles has always offered. But I'll remain skeptical until I actually set it happen.
Except it's doing the opposite for me and many other people I know. Until now, I could pay $300 to $400, and know that I would be able to play progressively better games in terms of visuals over the next 6+ years. The life cycles of consoles allowed developers to optimize the tech to wring out more and more power. Look at the PS3/360. Games like the Last of Us or Halo 4 would've been unthinkable in their early years. By shortening the console cycle and bringing out better hardware eve...
Er...Not really. To deliver that much power, Scorpio is going to be insanely expensive unless they sell it at a massive loss. And expensive consoles have never done well. Most Xbox players will still be on the One for a couple years after it releases until it reaches a reasonable price, at which point the One will have had the usual lifespan for a console.
Yeah, I doubt it'll work. To deliver that much power, it's going to have to carry a hefty price tag, and that hasn't worked out to well for consoles in the past. Unless they plan on selling it at a massive loss to keep the price below $400, this'll be the PS3 all over again.
At this point, why even call it an 'Xbox One'? This is effectively the beginning of another generation of consoles if the Scorpio is actually as powerful as they claim. Though, to deliver that much power, the price is going to have to be pretty hefty, and they are going to run into the same problem that hit the PS3 and the Xbox One at launch. If it's too expensive, sales will be low.
I wouldn't say it's typical. The average is around 5 to 6 years. The only console in recent memory that only lasted 4 years was the original Xbox. Plus, coming off the well above average lifepsan of last gen, this one feels extremely short.
I really, really, really hope it's Skyrim.
That's a matter of opinion. When it comes to graphics and creating well-developed characters, they are certainly at the top. But when it comes to actual gameplay, they aren't that amazing.
...Uh, what? The Division isn't even in the same league as Uncharted.
I'll believe it when I play it. I wasn't overly impressed by the previous Uncharted games when I picked up the Nathan Drake Collection.
This isn't a surprise. The last time something remotely similar happened, we got the Expansion Pak for the N64, and we had games coming out that could be played with or without it, but there were many games where you only got the full experience with the Pak. The base versions were stripped down, and not only looked worse, but lacked features and entire game modes. And the upgraded offered by the Pak is minimal compared to the Neo. Even if Sony keeps it's word and there are no actual ...
With Bloodborne, it depends on what ending you're talking about. I thought the 'hidden' ending was actually pretty satisfying.
Right. You're ignoring the fact that policies can easily change and what this could mean in the future. The fact that even devs like Bioware are complaining about this should tell you something. First, by introducing another console with different specs they are increasing dev costs and getting in the way of optimization. Why push the envelope with the PS4 when you can take advantage of the beefier specs of the Neo? The end result will be the basic PS4 getting poorly optimized versions o...
You do realize everything we know about the Neo is based on rumors, assumptions, and speculation, right? At least mine are based on history and how crap like this has worked out previously. This isn't the first time a company has tried something like this with a console. And just because a rumor claims that the Neo won't have exclusive games means absolutely nothing. If it doesn't meet Sony's expectations in terms of sales, you can bet they'd start putting out exclusives f...
Frankly, if I thought it'd be handled well, I'd be all for the Neo. But it isn't going to be. It'll start out with games being poorly optimized on the original PS4, and inevitably we'll start seeing exclusive titles that are 'only possible' on the Neo. Anyone who thinks everything will be the exact same on both consoles, with the Neo just having an easier time with resolution and frame rate is being naive and ignoring history.
Since when is effectively skipping the biggest game show of the year 'genius'?
They aren't doomed. Nintendo's handhelds are successful, and their software sells well. That being said, this could very well be their last home console, which is what most people are getting at when they say Nintendo is 'doomed'.
100 years ago, and women were fighting for the ability to wear revealing clothing and look 'sexy' without accruing the stigma of being regarded as a sexual deviant or worse. Even today, many women in other parts of the world would love the ability to wear something revealing without effectively putting a target on their back. But a video game showing off some skin is 'sexist'.
They really, really aren't that difficult. It's all about observation and preparation. If you're trying to play the game like a typical hack n' slash RPG, yeah, you're going to die. A lot. But if you take your time and observe the various bosses and enemies, figure out their weaknesses and attack patterns, and adjust your equipment and items accordingly, you'll go from being on the edge of rage-quitting to enjoying the challenge.
And? That doesn't change the fact that if they focused on Scorpio, and left Xbox One owners with shitty, poorly optimized versions they'd be fucking us over. I imagine that once the Scorpio is released, developers will gradually shift their focus over a few years, at which point the One will have had a normal console life cycle, which would be fine with me.
