It's more of a generalization ^_^ but yes I do understand your position.

I don't see that much demand to switch to linux but I do see a desire to return to the more open free range days of the early PC world. Microsoft with each update constrains the development path more and more.
I for one don't use linux all that much (I use BSD and Solaris with a toss of OS X (bsd lite) and Windows but I respect and understand those who think linux is great. I can't abide the GNU lic...

are wholly owned subsidiaries ^_-
that is .. they are part of Sony
Thus they are ... SONY

Not so sure... it has been lately that games that push the hardware just haven't been good enough to care about. Until people see a game that pushes and is good then good enough is good enough.

Random effect and yes it occurs on the PS3 as well.

Yes they are Hardware first but they definitely are also a software company.... less then 20 companies in the world have more programmers then Sony employs.

*is cheaper
*gives similar performance
*expands better (crossfire)

basically the new ATI series kicks the Nvidia cards to the curb and then curb stomps em.

Sure if you need the absolute best buy the new Nvidia's but if you need good enough then buy the ATI.

out of the millions sold....the video chip issue seems small:
"500 a year –is quite a major problem"
That statement seems to be a big huge exaggeration...
if you do the math on very conservative numbers

500 /2000000 is .00025%(and that assumes EU only has 2 million....)
that is more of a statistical anomaly then a significant figure.

I think you can say that the video chip issue is minor to the extreme

as for...

Thanks... Sony does make great software but to say it is the best in the world is maybe stretching it (though please stretch on). There are definitely good developers outside of Sony and they deserve as much credit and respect for quality and quantity of work. My feeling is you need both quality and quantity to be truly great - I can take 10 years on a project for quality but it commits to much resources to one project (when I worked gov projects 10 years was ok but commercial.... )economic f...

gah wish I could correct the months (where oh where is my edit button)
The dates are correct so the difference in months is actually: **9** months earlier for the Dual Analog to launch in Japan (but in NA the N64 hit before the Dual Analog)

Hmmm my feelings are pretty much the opposite... this story drew me in more then the previous outings and was much more poignant and compelling.

oh well to each their own.

Uhm.... GAMES?
that should be the only reason to buy a game console and the PS3 has many great and even some legendary games.

Notice the word "dual analog" not dual shock and no it is not a joke the dual analog was released 6 months sooner then the n64.

Oct 1995 for Japan release of the dual analog (announced aug 1995 JP)
N64 release date June 23 1996 Japan.
the dual analog was released in NA after the N64 release date in Japan but the N64 was released after the Dual Analog was in peoples hand.

yet again almost factually accurate but the
Dual Analog controller from Sony was released almost 7 months sooner then the N64 controller.

Or... you'd just wait a bit longer to get the money and buy it anyway. Remember that the core gamer is around 30 years of age, University Grad and employeed in a job with an average salary of 50k+ now so the cost of games really doesn't affect sales as much as you might think.

(core being those who buy 5 or more games a year)

They are not rival as of yet in the handheld market - and if you have a huge market that you can sell cheap product into.... you'll use it.
Please also see that several microsoft IPs appear to be in production for the DS....

They are doing a physical release - they are just trying to find a way to link your account to the game so as to avoid aftermarket poaching of their sales.

Never say microsoft can't come out with a handheld of their own...
That said I think microsoft is working with nintendo in the handheld market.

account linking

basically every game sold has a serial number and they link it to a psn account on a master server. If you sell the game the next person who buys it needs your account or it will not work.
Easy to implement if you are willing to survive the backlash.
They could also put in a transfer fee - if you sell the game they will transfer the rights for X$ to the new person - say 20% of the original cost. This would still allow transfers but also allow them ...
