great idea.... now all those cheaters that were blocked by the software will be in the NA servers....

Usenet] “As a Usenet discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches one.” There is a tradition in many groups that, once this occurs, that thread is over, and whoever mentioned the Nazis has automatically lost whatever argument was in progress. Godwin's Law thus practically guarantees the existence of an upper bound on thread ...
people can't read - it's obvious.
The article is saying Sony will not license porn onto the PS3
if you want it you can get it through the browser which Sony will not police.
Finally - someone who actually read the article!
SONY IS NOT PUTTING PORN ON THEIR SYSTEM - but they can't stop you from downloading or watching porn through the browser. THAT IS THE POINT OF THE ARTICLE
Not sure their premise that the X360 is doomed in Japan but I suspect more likely that it won't attract as many new developers there if this keeps up.
Otoh - you can be sure that in Japan the next FF that is exclusive to the PS3 will be only for 1 year since the major developmental issues for the X360 would have been completed already for the NA release.
Sony and the PlayStation brand are not publishing nor condoning the creation of adult content for the PS3. But a browser is a browser and as they say - you can do what you want with that. They are not Internet Cops so if you download porn - that's your business.
I'll always love the old game. T_T
but this user generated content idea (SOE if you steal ideas... stealing ideas like this is a great place to start) is awesome and I may go back to check it again because of it.
your right... it is in no way similar. One uses an authentication method that limited the number of systems and times it could be installed. the other just says hi to momma bliz with your correct account in passing. surprised more companies don't do it yet. I figure 60-70% will do it for games if bliz can get away with it. Microsoft already leans that way for their software.
kinda hard on the TV though....
actually VGcharts is not something to measure against ... literally thousands of times now it has been shown to be inaccurate if not downright fake in comparison to true numbers from companies like NPD.
Using VGCharts as a source devalues any site or comments which reference them.
true for the most part but
I would place any samsung above the S, L and M series sonys.
and the panels are made on the same factory line (the Sony Samsung LCD Alliance plant)
1) 120 is better then 60 hz - much - because it allows smooth playback of 24fps sources. You have a profound misunderstanding of what a TV does with the faster refresh rate: They do not create inbetween frames, the higher frequency rate is used to repeat frames.
The reason for 120hz vs 60 was that 30 fps sources and 24fps sources could not coexist without fancy processing at 60hz... 24fps sources required a 2:3 pulldown and with 120hz they do not now.
120hz does not aff...
NOT - It just doesn't make sense as anything other then marketing... 240hz doesn't fix the last remaining issue...
600hz would allow Pal/Secam/NTSC/HDTV/Movies all to work properly as that is the LCM of 24,25, and 30
so no real purpose between 120 and 600
If you are proper distance from a 32" you will be able to tell the difference EASILY.
to calculate proper visual acuity distance for a HD-TV multiply the screen height (not diagonal) by 2.5x and sit at that distance (or closer)
If you can't tell the difference you have 2 choices
A) your literally Blind
B) you are using a 720p source
this statement is wrong.
"I don't see the problem of doing it the PS3-way and using one core to decompress, the other core to run the core of the game, and off-load the other core towards game mechanics such as physics & data meshing."
actually that is not the ps3 way... dedicating processors is limiting - Developers should load balance them instead. Dedicating processors to certain tasks underutilizes the hardware in a significant manner.
...
single core/single thread dedication creates bottle necks and underutilizes resources that a polymorphic engine that load balances (automatically and manually) would better utilize giving better throughput. If a program needs more power it should seek it where it can find it... if you cage one process to one processor you limit it's abilities but is MUCH SIMPLIER TO CREATE - that is why it is called naive multiprocessing. True multiprocessing will spread the load as much as possible to allow ...
he did talk about using single dedicated core.
------------------------
"Where the entire rendering system is offloaded onto one core. he said this was a “natural progression” from the multi-core support it had included in previous generation titles. “That balances pretty nicely for most games, where you can run your game logic and simulation in one thread, and your rendering system in another thread,” he explained.
He explained that there was much ...
having a higher frequency of updates doesn't make up frames (interpolate) but instead it allows repetition of frames instead
THE NEED FOR 120 hz WAS A RESULT OF THIS DISCONTINUITY:
a 30fps (29.97 actually) signal is standard TV
a 24fps signal is standard movie
a 60 Hz tv updates the screen 60 times a sec and allows every
tv frame to be duplicated 2x
BUT 24 does not go evenly into that frequency so a conversion called a 2:3 pu...
DID THEY MISS TOSE.... easily the most productive studio in the world!
buy it... you'll like it :-)
it only is a small taste... it won't cost you your career or life
come on...
just a little taste....
